Arsene Wenger has confirmed that Francis Coquelin did have surgery on his broken nose after it twice took a bashing in last weekend’s victory over Everton.
The midfielder’s schnoz required extensive on-field treatment after bearing the brunt of an accidental clash with Olivier Giroud and then exploded in blood-tacular fashion a second time in the 89th minute after a thump from the ball.
Speaking to Arsenal Player ahead of Arsenal’s trip to QPR the boss confirmed he expects his young compatriot to be able to play despite ‘a little surgery’ to repair the damage.
Coquelin trained with the first team as usual yesterday although it remains a possibility that he will sport a mask should he be selected for the trip to Loftus Road.
In the same interview Wenger revealed he was prepared to let the 24-year-old leave the Emirates at the end of the season before his remarkable form earned him a new deal and regular first team football.
I really admire how he knuckled down and found his way into the team. Hope Mr. Dench is looking on…
Should he be in the team tonight though? Would rather he played United, if there is a choice.
Why wouldn’t you play your best players if you felt they could keep you within touching distance of 2nd and away from United and Liverpool?
All he has to do is avoid nosing the ball for 90 minutes.

I think mainly because to accuse Naismith of purposefully and calculatively nudging Coquelin just enough so that the ball lands on his nose is frankly, ridiculous.
He put his arm out and he didn’t even go for the ball. It might have been inadverdently his fault, but to lay blame on him for that… well.

When penetrating the QPR defense, it all starts with our Coq, so hopefully he’ll be Up for the challenge.
FFS lads – you can’t just start with Coq, you have to be patient with a little bit of foreplay, tease the defence, pull them about a bit, get those twats chasing your Coq. Then get in behind them and get your balls in the box.

Love Coquelin’s toughness. He’s not just effective at the back, he’s also a hard-nosed player that our team of clever technicians can use. I really like the mix of players, skills and personalities that our squad has right now.
I think you miss interpeted the Manager. He said Coquelin is OP, which is short for Overpowered. The latest patch gave much love to the Coq. Just to bad Alexis got a little nerfed.

He’s been very average bar the Man city game and a few others. He’s regressed since signing a new deal and was dreadful against Monaco and Spurs. We desperately need a need dm or we won’t win the league. That’s been the case for 8 years and the deity still hasn’t realised. You’d have thought that seeing us time and time again being bullied in midfield he’d have sorted out this problem but he hasn’t. Funny how he’s great when he can do his job as the rest of the team help him out with defending, starting at the front (like a team should) and then average to poor when he’s been left to protect the entire back four by himself. That’s a lot of pitch to cover.
He’s never been great for a second. He was good against a man city side that was half asleep. That’s it. It was embarrassing the over reaction from Arsenal fans after that match.
He was well out of his depth against spurs, Monaco and Southamton. His passing was awful against spurs. He looked every inch the mid table pl player he is in those games.

No deluded is many Arsenal fans wetting themselves after winning one league match against man city. They were acting as if Wenger had finally got it all figured out.
How on earth people can watch Coquelin and see a long term viable option at dm is beyond me. Though i do remember Arsenal fans acting as if Flamini was the second coming not too long ago. So nothing is beyond the delusion of many Arsenal fans.
I think its fair to say Coquelin is nowhere near the world class DM everyone is hoping for at the moment. But its a bit harsh saying that he looked every inch of a mid table player. I do think there are quite a bit to ask of his quality in distribution, especially under pressure, but lets not forget he is effectively only became an active starting player of the squad for a quarter of the season. Did anybody else noticed that one of the reason Coquelin hit the ball with his nose the second time is because an Everton player pushed him a bit?
For the QPR game, I would like to see Bellerin-Gabriel-Koscielny-Monreal in the back, Rosicky-Ramsey in front of them, then Welbeck-Ozil-Walcott, and then Giroud. Alexis, Cazorla, and Mertisecker can use some rest and Walcott and Rosicky deserve some playing time. Our next game against ManU is important and we need to give some rest to some of our important players so they will be fresher for the game. Too many changes could easily be a disastrous idea.
Remember, QPR are fighting for their Premiership lives. It might well turn out to be a harder-fought match than ManU at the weekend.
Mertesacker was rested Sunday. It’s Koscielny’s turn for a rest – need to give that chronic tendonitis a little time to recover before the Man Ure match. Coquelin plus one of Cazorla, Ramsey, or Rosicky in front of the defence (Cazorla the slight favourite). I can see either Walcott or Welbeck coming in for Sanchez, who does need a rest, but Ozil and the Ox should retain their places. Anything more than that is too many changes at once.
