Ramsey ‘slowly’ recovering from Huddlestone kick

Arsene Wenger has hinted that Aaron Ramsey could miss Swansea’s visit to the Emirates next Monday after picking up a knock against Hull City.

The Welshman’s left knee and right ankle both bore the brunt of an ill-timed first half tackle by fatty-bum-bum Tom Huddlestone leaving the Arsenal man pounding the turf in agony.

After lengthy treatment Ramsey eventually returned to score and assist before the interval. He was later replaced by Jack Wilshere on 68 minutes and hasn’t trained since.

“From the Hull match we had Ramsey who took a big kick, he is getting slowly better,” Arsene Wenger told Arsenal.com. “He could be back in training soon.”

Elsewhere, Mathieu Debuchy’s hamstring problem will keep him sidelined for a second game in a row while Danny Welbeck’s inflammation of the knee makes him a doubt.

“Debuchy is still out, he’s progressing but not available. Welbeck is doing better but he is still not in training, he has missed now more than a week. There is no major damage but we have to see how it progresses over the next two or three days.”

The other long-term absentees, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Mikel Arteta, are also taking their time. “Chamberlain is not available,” confirmed Wenger.

“Arteta will be short so it will basically be a similar squad [to the one that faced Hull].”

Would like to see Jack given a start, whether that be from the right or maybe putting santi out there, although he has been exceptional in CM. Not starting Walcott now would be a big statement considering ramsey, welbeck and the OX are out.

I think putting Santi out wide would be a waste now. He seems to have found his role in the team in the deeper centre mid role. He’s running the show there.

Definitely agree about Theo though. If Ramsey isn’t fit and Theo doesn’t start then something is definitely going on.

Arsenalnut

I’d rather see Theo as the striker against a pressing team that keeps a high defensive line. In hindsight, he might have been the right guy to start versus Chelsea. His speed makes a back four back up. That gives our play makers more room to manoever between the lines. Playing up top also minimizes Theo’s shortcomings-tracking back and crossing. For me the only real downside is it makes us shorter. Ok, if Theo plays up top Giroud is on the bench. That’s not a plus. Giroud, however, coming in after Theo has taken defender’s legs is such a nice… Read more »

Wilshere to start on the right confirmed.

Mc1892

Part of me is pleased; though I think Ramsey has done fantastically well, think Wilshere having to start a game will give us a better indication of where he’s at. Found myself getting a little carried away after his cameo against an admittedly crap and, by that stage in the match, tiring team. Also such a marker as to how far Walcott’s stock has fallen that we’re all presuming he’s not in the frame to start, despite him being the only fit ‘proper’ right winger..

Mc1892

Read that back and it sounded as though I was saying I was pleased Ramsey is injured- not what I meant whatsoever, just that Wilshere gets a crack at it after so long out.

Red Cannon

Where the hell is Tomas?

me,Mesut and I

Just shows the importance of having a large squad. Wilshere or Rosicky to come in. Cant wait also to see the Ox back fit he will be perfect in that role on the right of midfield that Ramsey has been playing lately.

Bosscielny

Wilshere or the Mozart?
I can’t decide. Wilshere looked very good in that short cameo.
But I love to watch rosicky play.

Edu's Braces

Why did he stay on the pitch? This is a minor and probably inconsequential example but how many times do our players play through an injury and then find themselves out for month? 3-0 and he plays on then misses the next game, I don’t like to be so negative but it’s frustrating.

gar14

Err, didn’t he get injured early on?? And shortly after grab himself a goal and an excellent assist?? And then came off early???

Looked like an impact injury and was able to play through the pain. I understand it’s frustrating to lose players when it’s not necessary but away at Hull under the circumstances was not easy and we needed our best players to play if fit

Mpls

Fucking Hundredstone does this -or tries to- every time we play him. Still scum through and through.

chippy's chip

Fatty scum scum haha

It seems we have all forgotten a man named Walcott. If Ramsey and welbeck cannot make it and Wenger prefers to play wilshere a midfielder who is just coming back over a fit Theo Walcott in a match we are playing at home, I think it says a lot about his current view of Walcott. A departure at the end of the season might be on the cards. Quite sad. Give Walcott a chance

two bullets in the chamber

Wenger did give him a chance… multiple chances. When he was subbed on in the hull game he bottled what should have been an easy goal and an important one at that for goal difference. In an earlier game he bottled multiple chances to get clear on goal due to poor control and heavy touches. I remember, forgot which game, Welbeck couldn’t control a couple of great passes from Sanchez and then you could see that Sanchez was hesitating to pass to him for the rest of Welbeck’s time on the pitch. When you mess up things like this you… Read more »

To be fair, he needs more minutes to develop match sharpness after being out for so long. The last 10 minutes here and there doesn’t really cut it.

two bullets in the chamber

Granted. But on the other hand look at Le Coq. Yes he wasn’t out injured but its a big step up and he’s bossing it. Ozil out for quite a while, instant impact. Giroud as well. And wilshere showed a few glimpses of talent that were as if he was never out, which may be down to playing an already defeated, tired team but still. The sharpness is there. I agree partly that maybe he does need minutes, but we just can’t afford it, unfortunately for him. He’s not a bad player by any means but the EPL has become… Read more »

Paul

As much as I am not convinced on Walcott I do think he deserves a decent chance to show what he’s got!

Cagooner

I think it’s very naïve to assume that Walcott is a straight replacement for Ramsey out right. I think Arsene likes the balance he has with a slightly more defensive and centrally minded player out there. Ramsey doesn’t place as an out-and-out winger, but fills that space, covers the RB and gets inside too. Theo never does that. He is incredibly weak defensively and doesn’t cover the RB. His only add is explosive pace. If Ramsey isn’t fit for Monday, I hope to see TR7 out there as first choice, Wilshere as second.

Third Plebeian

Aaron Ramsey is very handsome.

Paul

Same team as previous then – that’ll do!!

Paul

I think my point has been missed – I mean that we still have a great team to face Swansea!

Shubham

Get well soon Aaron. FA Cup is not far. Need the winning goal.

Lets put Swansea to the sword… COYG!

ArseMansBackInTown

Get well soon, Rambo.

Bob's Mexican Cousin

It seems that our captains are cursed. Don’t recall the last time we had a couple seasons when they that were mostly injury free nor left the club

WengersNoseHair

Isn’t Arteta always short?

Don’t bother, I didn’t bring a coat or hat.

gooner bank

Walcot please …

Bigdeal

It seems I’m the only one rooting for chamberlains return. He may not be our best but still my favorite player.
Can’t wait to see him driving through that right wing, if that boy remains fit, gets enough game time with the experience that comes with it. We will have a legend

two bullets in the chamber

Yup…he’s one of my favourite players too. I imagine he’s going to be big big part of arsenals squad going forward.

Cagooner

I agree. I think he brings the perfect balance of Walcott’s pace, penetration and speed into the box (think of all those penalties he wins) while having more defensive capabilities like Ramsey.

Paul

So many talents to choose from going forward!
COYG!

Less rambly Pete

Think Wenger is not keen to play Walcott ahead of Bellerin. If Debuchy was fit I think he’d be more likely to get the nod. As it is I’d go TR7 starting, Wilshere for another cameo. I’m nervous of him coming in too quickly and I’d trust TR7 to do a shift defensively.

Rohith J

We need Ramsey for Old Trafford and the customary FA Cup winner. Wilshere/Arteta can take care of the rest I believe.

MegaJulz

Fatty bum-bum had me wishing I could roll around laughing but unfortunately I’m at work, just not working.

Start Theo, let Jack have another solid 20/30 mins his little cameo vs Hull reminded me of the talent he possesses
