Lehmann still backing Cech to make the difference

Despite a nightmare debut for Arsenal, Jens Lehmann believes the former Chelsea man is the keeper the club need to win the title.

Speaking to Goal at a Bundesliga legends event in the USA, the former Arsenal man admitted his surprise at the way Cech was exposed against West Ham, but insisted his quality would come through.

“He is the goalkeeper Arsenal need to win the title,” he said.

“I was surprised because I expected him to be really good from the beginning, but he’s got the experience, he’s got most of the ingredients that a fantastic goalkeeper needs, and he is among the best ever keepers.

“I think he’s still got some years left to perform at this level, but sometimes it takes a while to adapt to a new club – especially when you’re coming from a major enemy like Chelsea.”

We can’t be the only ones who’d love to see Jens back at the club – he’s done his coaching badges, and goalkeeping coach is an area in which we could improve.

ADD THE MAD, Arsene.

Big up Jens

the only sam is nelson

WHAT? Lehmann didn’t write Cech off after one game and say we were going to get relegated with him in goal?!? I DON’T BELIEVE IT

there’s no place for that kind of perspective or proportionate response in today’s game. It’s a disgrace.

“He is the goalkeeper Arsenal need to win the title”…

How about just letting the guy settle in and find his feet while dialing back the unwarranted level of hyperbole? If he was the guy capable of winning a title, then it begs the question, how did Courtois displace him?

Under the best of circumstances he was never going to win us the league, but simply play a part (if it is to happen).

Maybe the hype and pressure contributed to his poor decision making on the season opener.

Love the Jens #majorenemy

I think what’s important to remember is that Cech is a great keeper who has been great for a long time, with years ahead of him.

Backing him to be excellent overall, for the season ahead is a no-brainer for me.

Lehmann still backing Cech?

He’d be mad not to… Oh wait?

Thats Len’s mad hat

OneBeatOff

Yes, now repeat.

Wibble

I have tears in my eyes laughing at that. Awesome… But mad. Like a good goal keeper should be

gazgoon

Inspired posting!!!

Why do you ask my name? It is beyond understanding

Cech will bounce back.

Get your F**king coat

cech will pay off in the end

Man Manny

Never doubted Cech; not even after Sunday. The greatest keepers have off days. I remember Manuel Nuer last season against Munchengladbach… conceded 2 unbelievably horrible goals.

n11gooner

I love that mad fucker. Remember when he used to run the length of the field to get involved with a minor scuffle. He was hilarious (and quality) on the pitch

OOzil

The truth is when cech saw all the blundering keepers we have had over the last few years he thought he would throw his hat into the ring. 😛

goontang

God its been a long week in the life of a gooner.

If there is ever a Petr Cech-book, will it have perforated pages? Admittedly, that may be lost on our younger viewers!

Smart-Arse

Petr is just getting used to a very different style of play. Chelsea everyone sits back and he has more protection. They would never have defended that set piece like we did. So Cech has to adjust his game to (even a staunch Arsenal fan would have to admit) a defence that is not quite as good. Ever thought that maybe our style of play exposes keepers more? He’s a great keeper playing in a less solid defence

Agreed

Major enemy
Up there with the sagna quote after twatting in a header against the noisy neighbours

Gunsen Gunner

Sagna. ……having trouble recalling who that is. I remember a game against the spuds a few years ago where a player scored when we were 2-0 down but I can’t say who.

Goonerestgooner

Does that mean you also don’t recall the glory that was/is Mrs Sagna…..

(Having trouble pasting a link….would someone else do the honours?)

ThaatArsenalGuy

He left at the right time for everyone involved , gave his all on every occasion . Certain players are pricks but I think he deserves a bit more respect than that

GunFor1

Just watched the Game for the 1st time tonight. Petr Cech is GARBAGE. Is José Murinho really THAT much of a Genius????? WHAT THE FU€K?!?!?!
