The FA have ruled on Gabriel’s charge of Improper Conduct stemming from last weekend’s clash with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, and banned the Brazilian for one game effective immediately.
In a statement on their website, they say:
Following an Independent Regulatory Commission hearing, Arsenal defender Gabriel will serve a one-match suspension with immediate effect after he admitted an FA charge of improper conduct.
The charge relates to Gabriel’s behaviour following his dismissal in or around the 45th minute of the game against Chelsea on Saturday [September 19, 2015].
The player, who requested a personal hearing, was also fined £10,000 and warned as to his future conduct.
So, we have the unusual situation of a player being banned for reacting to a red card that shouldn’t have been issued and which was later overturned. Most odd.
Speaking earlier today, Arsene Wenger revealed the former Villarreal man hadn’t been too affected by everything that went on.
“He was sorry for what happened and very disappointed,” said the Frenchman, “but he is a fighter and his attitude in training the whole week was completely focused and motivated.”
And referencing his English, which is still quite poor, he joked, “One of the advantages maybe of not speaking much English is that he doesn’t understand that much about what’s going on!”
Gabriel will miss tomorrow’s trip to Leicester.
No surprise about the fine (they need the money), big surprise about the suspension!
Suspended for not leaving the pitch when hadn’t received a red card…… Sweet FA!
So we lost 3 points that we had a good chance of winning if Dean had made the right decision, Gabriel suspended for a match when unjustly sent off. And have to put up with Mourinho slagging off Arsene. So still 95% of the situation to correct.
When does anyone do anything about Mike Dean?
https://www.change.org/p/the-football-association-the-fa-prevent-mike-dean-from-refereeing-another-arsenal-game only 400 short of 100,000 signatories.
Mourninho is a cross between Windom Earl ( Twin Peaks ) – the looks and that Russian villain from Jack Ryan movie played by Kenneth Branagh ( the accent )
Moronho is so fucking stupid that zombies would refuse his brains.
Yes, and more of, they are afraid of contracting his moaning cuntish jackass bully desease also. Y
You can observe the symptoms, brooding, sulking, not unlike you usually see on a teenage girl, but not at all pleasant to look at on a middle age chubby man.
just read maureens rant on wenger
he’s a bigger cunt than i thought he was
if thats possible.
unbelievable!!
He lacks the warmth, depth and compassion to be a cunt.
I’ve signed the petition but I’ll say this: the only way to shut that fucker up and make everything he says irrelevant is to win. The league or champions league. Obviously the latter is extremely unlikely.
Much as I like the spirit of the Change.org petition to have Mike Dean removed from future Arsenal games, couldnt someone have tidied it up a bit first and checked the grammar and spelling!
101,000 – well done.
Let’s hope this gets delivered to the FA asap (as well as mentioned to the press so they can publicise it) – getting 100,000 signatures in a week is impressive. Otherwise there is a danger it all gets forgotten. Anyone know Jamie Cassar from Waltham Abbey, the bloke that started it?
Silver linings; my six year old now completely understands the meaning of nonsensical. Even uses it in a sentence! Cheers.
Im a native English speaker and i rarely understand the F.A eitjer
Nailed it.
Objectively spoken, without any of my Arsenal bias, it is fair. It is not odd. The 1-game ban + fine is to penalize Gabriel’s behavior after he was sent off. Legitimacy of Dean’s red card is irrelevant because Gabriel’s behavior to a red card (i.e. not the red card but a red card) violated the conduct rules. Now, whether the level of punishment is just, that is up for debate. I personally think fine alone would’ve been sufficient for a non-violent behavior against a red card which was later rightfully overturned, but that’s just me. Rather, what I am not… Read more »
He wasn’t reacting to being given a red but to being given an unjust red that he did not deserve, as the FA has since admitted.
1 game is still better than 3……….
It’s actually two though effectively…they tell Arsense a couple hours before the first game of the ban that he isn’t banned, then ban him again for 1 game afterward…it’s stupid. The ban should apply to the spurs game. Otherwise it’s in effect a 2 game ban. You can’t bring someone back into the team on a couple hours’ notice.
True this. Especially a pain as we could really use him against Leicester. His style of play is more suited to countering their pace-based approach than our other centre backs.
he’ll be back for the mancs though to boss them…….so cheer up 🙂
FA hypocrits. Still better than 3 though.
He is already a legend for me. Should have kicked Costa’s balls and that idiot Oscar diver before leaving.
After all been said and Done, the following facts are still relevant.
Diego Costa is a cheat and a Cunt.
Jose “crying” Mourinho is a Cunt.
The whole Chelsea fraternity are Cunts.
Chelsea sugardaddy is a Oil baron.
John Terry is a racist and a Cunt.
Gabriel is a Warlord!!!
A warlord for a crappy non kick?
Like I’ve said before, if you’re going to get yourself a red card against a cunt at least do it properly.
To then get a minimum 3 match ban.. makes sense
You forgot Mike Dean and the FA. Incompetent cunts.
“Warlord” lol!
Love it.
So because of the red card, Gabriel will effectively miss 2 games for us overall – the midweek game against Sp*rs and tomorrow’s game against Leicester.
That’s just one shy of the number of games he would have missed had he got the initial ban, which he didn’t!!
What the actual fuck??
Don’t think Wenger ever planned for him to play the Spurs game. I think his Red card was rescinded before that, so he could have played. Wenger was more interested in rotating players, and giving Mertesacker some game time to get his fitness back.
He wasn’t banned for the sp*rs game he was rested.
I don’t think he was rested. He wasn’t in the boss’s plans to prepare for the game because of the uncertainty around the FA’s decision.
That may have been AW’s rationale for resting him, nevertheless he was rested, he had not been banned.
why doesn’t the spurs game count as the ban? Why does it take the FA so long to determine these things?
Did he really take that long to leave? I see players that receive red cards stay on as long as that all the time…
Why doesn’t Gabriel/Arsenal get an apology from Dean or the FA for costing us 3 points? Why, why, why? haha
OP is right, just slightly wrong way round. It’s not about Wenger CHOOSING to take him out of the firing line on Wednesday.
The FA could have come to this decision BEFORE Wednesday which means he would have been suspended for the Spurs game, but because they dragged their arse (or hate Arsenal, and now I think of it the two don’t have to be mutually exclusive), now he misses the Saturday game.
FA = Fucking Assclowns!
Seriously, if they were not in charge of the sport in England I would say they were professional trolls.
Big game for Per tomorrow.
Gabriel is definitely getting closer to a regular start.
Sounds like getting arrested, with your only charge being resisting arrest.
Classic!
Yeah but in real legal systems you are allowed to resist wrongful arrest. In FA-land, you get banned for it. Go figure.
Jose is so predictable sometimes, watch the media circus start up again now…
Mourinho is getting more pathetic each day fucking twat
I honestly wonder what Abramovic is thinking about Mourinho’s behaviour this season. Eva Caneiro. Making fun of fat people and sexist comments about Benitez’s wife cooking for him. Talk of fake results. And constant schoolboy trash talking against Wenger. I’m amazed Abramovic hasn’t told him to just cut it out and stop taking the bait as it’s making them look bad. Mourinho causes this wherever he goes he has serious emotional issues which go unchecked because of his talent and power. I actually am finding it pretty funny at this point it’s pretty entertaining, like watching someone else’s teenager embarrass… Read more »
Gabriel isn’t being banned for protesting to the referee or match officials after the red card, rather for the fact that he was aggressive towards Costa and Oscar (if memory serves). If they didn’t ban him it would’ve set a precedent that you can react in the same manner if your sending off was unjust. He got toyed into reacting, he reacted and deserves a ban. We have to stop looking at things through Arsenal-tinted glasses. I think the FA have shown a lot of balls in this case and Wenger is lucky not to get a slap on the… Read more »
At the same time the FA will continue to lose everyone’s respect if they don’t deal with blatant shockers like the one Mike Dean had last weekend. He “missed” Costa’s hand in Kos’ face and the rest that followed? Sure he did. What next? He was “only following orders”? And the FA let him get away with it. Shocking!
They aren’t going to reprimand him in public. They hardly ever do… Why, because the referees shouldn’t be in the spotlight, ever. A good referee is one you hardly notice. What’s the point of going public with his fine or reprimand? It just puts the referee in question under more pressure and they don’t need more pressure, they need assistance. Video technology!
Sure but in my naivete I’d like to see top referees at the top level and just like with any team failing to perform who slips from that level so too should a shoddy ref. By all means cancel the tar and feathers but Mike Dean’s record by now should be enough for him to be demoted. I’d welcome video technology but I doubt it would save us from m ore of his poor refereeing. I’d be quite happy for him to slip away quietly just as long as he goes.
If the FA were insistent upon not undermining the authority of referees they would have upheld Dean’s decisions, wrong or not. By reinstating Gabriel and banning Costa they’ve issued a great big “DEAN FUCKED UP” statement that completely undermines Dean (not that he didn’t deserve it, don’t get me wrong here). Wenger has not gone nearly as far as tools like Moronho and Ferguson did in talking about referees.
There’s a difference between demoting someone publicly and over-ruling their decision. Diego got suspended because Dean didn’t see his violent conduct. Gabriel’s was overturned because the Club appealed. It’s not saying “He f-d up” but rather “after looking at it we agree that it was harsh”.
I don’t really care how far Fergie or Mourinho went with regards to referees, they don’t manage the Club I support. I care how far AW goes, and he got off lucky that they didn’t come after him.
VintageFuzz… Wenger has many faults, but inexperience is not one of them. Nor is he quick to anger. In his post-game comments he was annoyed, but he was measured and careful with his wording. He wasn’t “lucky” the FA didn’t sanction him. The same FA that’s pedantic enough to ban and fine Gabriel would have charged Wenger with half a chance. Your characterisation of Wenger as lucky, or that his behaviour was in any way comparable to Ferguson’s rants is way off base. But to admonish Wenger and say he also needs to “abide by the rules”, then I’d say… Read more »
The FA’s illogical approach continues. Just when you thought they would have done the right thing and rescinded an unfair red card and let it be done, they ban him for reacting to an injustice. Incredible.
It’s not as mad as it sounds. The red card was rescinded because it was a straight red for “violent conduct” for the kick on Costa. The footage shown to the FA of the “kick” showed that it was really just a flick-out of the foot which did not amount to violent conduct. It should have been punished with a yellow card, not a straight red. That is why the red was rescinded. Yellow cards can’t be revisited retrospectively, but if Gabriel had received the correct punishment it would have been his second yellow and he would have been sent… Read more »
Good explanation but, if the cuntsta had been sent off at the time, which the F.A. have granted,
Gabriel wouldn’t have been physically able to do those yellow card offenses.
Why doesn’t the one match ban apply to the League Cup match?
Because the ban cannot start until he was found guilty and the charge wasn’t decided until after the game, so he was free to play at sp*rs but AW decided to rest him
I would consider playing Chambers and Koscielny tomorrow, for the simple fact that Chambers is “slightly” faster than Per. Only slightly though 🙂
Another thought I had : since the right side had Debuchy, might it be better to shore it up with Per in his usual position rather than left? Chambers really has a problem playing left side if central defense? What do you think.
As for the Gabriel verdict, if they could retroactively count the sp*rs game it would have been nice. Let’s move on though.
I am also slightly faster than Per but I don’t think that means Arsene should play me at CB either.
Is it better to have Chambers moving faster but not getting into the perfect position to defend than it is to have Mertesacker placing himself at Per-speed in the best position to defend from?
I’m not wholly convinced Chambers’ (still learning the job) speed would be of more benefit than Per’s experience, in the Leicester game….. yet.
And somehow Mike Dean gets out scott free…
Welcome to English football. We’re run by the FA. Enjoy your stay.
Mourinho called Costa his ‘man of the match’ because of his behaviour, is that not bringing the game into disrepute by condoning cheating and thuggery. Shouldn’t he punished for this?
When players behave badly, they are punished.
When managers blast referees for being blind/stupid/biased/etc, they are punished.
When referees are being blind/stupid/biased… carry on!!!
What gives?
Why start counting Costa’s ban from CIC and decided to start Gabriel’s from Saturday’s match?
FA being dumb fucks as always. Bunch of old cunts running a train wreck.
At the time when Mourinio was leaving Real and going to the Blue Cunts (a time we had the no trophy in x yrs monkey on our backs), I wondered if I would like him to replace Wenger.
I now think it would have been the most embarrassing move if we ever were to make it!
….unless we had signed ‘Ol Chompy R***** Suarez.
Wow! £10,000 just for being pissed off about an injustice?
I know it’s not a lot of money to your average footballer but that’s still a hell of a lot of money!
Seeing as Costa shouldn’t have been on the pitch and Gabriel’s red card was rescinded it doesn’t make much sense to me to ban him for a reaction to something that they have acknowledged wasn’t fair in the first place.
True gentlemen of the sporting fraternity accept injustices without batting an eyelid.
Those gentlemen who have committed an unforgiveable faux pas such as visiting an injustice on an innocent usually retire to another room and do the honourable thing.
The FA fall far short of being gentlemen.
What is this? Why? Why? What is this?
*unplugs ear pods, gets coat*
Surprised he got off so lightly. No way those FA’ers were going to let him go empty handed.
Wonder if they warned Mr. Bean about his future conduct?
I will like to see monreal and kos at central den bellerin and Gibbs .Ramsey santi ozil Walcott Alexis giroud
He’s back for the mancs. Good. Blah blah wank. Flash in the pan. Helmet. Martial. Anthony. Pffff.
