Mathieu Debuchy says he’s annoyed with Arsene Wenger for the way his season has panned out and confirmed that the manager blocked a deadline day approach from Manchester United.
The France international was a surprise last minute target for Louis van Gaal’s side – an opportunity the 30-year-old says would have been ‘magnificent – before he sealed a return to France with Ligue 1 side Bordeaux.
“Yes, at the end of the transfer window they came in,” Debuchy told Canal Plus.
“They [Manchester United] contacted my agents. I was disappointed, obviously. If I had the chance to go to Manchester United it would have been magnificent.
“Unfortunately it wasn’t the case. I discussed it with the coach too, who said that obviously he couldn’t help out a rival.
“I’m a little bit annoyed by him [Wenger]. It’s his choice. I came back well this summer, I had a good preseason.
“I was able to talk to him to know my future at Arsenal. He said that I would have game time and that we would discuss it in December. Unfortunately, I didn’t have this game time.”
It’s almost certain that Debuchy will be offloaded on a permanent basis when the summer transfer window opens. And probably at a substantial loss.
It’s a real shame he’s decided to continue mouthing off about his circumstances. Quite frankly, it reeks of sour grapes from a guy who looked decidedly dodgy every time he played in the first team since returning from the second of two long-term injuries.

Until now I was giving him benefit of doubt. I actually liked him as a player. But this is a completely unprofessional statement. He’s deluded if he ever thought for a moment that we’ll send him to a rival.
I’m glad he’s no longer a part of the squad because his contribution, if any would only be negative. I wish we would have loaned him out to villa where he could see his teammates win the league whilst he got relegated.
But Wenger sold RVP to Man U and allowed Ca$hley to go to Chelsea. Our hero of the day used to play for them too. I do not think Man U would have won the league because of Debuchy but they did because of RVP and so-called gentlemen agreement between Ferguson and Wenger. Just telling the truth but Debuchy ought to shut up now.
Such old, out-of tune violins to keep playing. In neither case did Wenger want to, but he had no leverage contractually and his hand was forced. For example, his only other option with RVP was to sell him for 17m less to Juventus or City, which was no alternative at all.
Here, where he had leverage, he used it.
Anyway, I’m disappointed in Debuchy, initially a good signing and player to whom some bad things happened but who, rather than getting on with it, has loudly made the worst of it. Good riddance.
