Ox loves big Willie’s style

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain says Chris Willock’s ability to glide past players reminds him of former England international Chris Waddle.

Chris, whose little brother Joseph is also on Arsenal’s books, was one of the club’s outstanding performers at under-21 level last season as he helped the Gunners secure promotion to the newly-named Premier League 2.

Having been included on the first-team pre-season tour to Singapore in 2015, Willock was handed further first team experience on the recent tour of California where he featured against the MLS All Stars and Chivas de Guadalajara.

Having witnessed Willock’s technical ability at close hand, Oxlade-Chamberlain was full of praise for the England youth international.

“Chris is a great player,” the Ox told Arsenal Player. “He is a typical Arsenal player – left foot, right foot, very technical and he dribbles with the ball really nicely.

“My dad used to tell me about Chris Waddle who used to go past players as if they weren’t there at his own speed as if it is effortless. Chrissy Willock has that about him, he can glide past people and looks really nice on the ball.

“As I said, he is a great player. He can score goals as well, which is crucial as the older you get with the end of product and stuff. He has shown, ever since I have been aware of him or watched him, he can score goals for the youth team or the reserve team. He is a great player and I’m sure he has a really big future ahead of him.”

Willock is set to feature for the under-23s when they face Liverpool this afternoon. You can watch the action live on Arsenal.com from 6.45pm (UK time).

Mr Gooner

Looking forward to see the line up including Beilik, The Jeff, Willock, and Balotelli for Liverpool.

I really liked the look of Willock in the games I saw him play in pre-season, he looks like he has bags of talent, hopefully he can keep his head screwed on, unlike lots of other super gifted youngsters that didn’t make the grade at Arsenal.

the only sam is nelson

as long as he doesn’t take penalties like Waddle did.

Or join Sp*ds for that matter.

Chris

I’d welcome the mullet though.

Ishan

Did you mean to say pelanties?

Tommi Juhani

Im waiting to be very happy and drunk todayl..make it happen Arsenal!

?@iambadal

As you get older, it’s better to have more goals as you’re working on your by product – Alex Oxlade Chamberlain. Oh the irony…!!

Kafkush

“…with the end product and stuff…”

Yes. Like, I mean, you know, this attacking winger thing. Like, goals and assists. Stuff like that.

Luka

I’m sorry if this is a little (a lot) of topic. I’m a Slovenian gooner who just came to Glasgow to study. I would love to watch a match in a pub/bar where usually Glasgow gooners go for a pint and watch the match. If anyone can give me any tip I would be delighted.
Cheers!

Best place to ask that kind of question is Twitter.

I love Big Ox style.

Old Ninja turtle is brilliant on the move and adds a dynamism to our attack.

Simply loved the way Leicester’s Simpson tried to block his way and ended up bouncing off the Ox at full pelt.

Think Gnabry has many similar attributes to the Ox. Would be great to see him in action too.

Along with Iwobi, they can add a lot of energy to the forward line and pentration/pace for Santi and Granit to aim at.

Arsene

Thanks Arseblog for alerting me to the game. How poor of Arsenal.com (that I had been in and out of all day) that I found out from you!

Thanks again “Launch The Jeff”!

Ducks sake

Can black guys have mullets?

OneBeatOff

A lot of my black friends find it amusing that a group of sub-urban teenagers wear gold, baggy trousers and attempt to rap (Ebonics). But they would never sport a mullet! Not necessarily because they would get their asses beaten but mostly because it looks like shit.

Ducks sake

I don’t know what you said.
But I’ve answered my own question. The guy with the soul go in Coming to America has a mullet.

Yours sincerely,

King Joyce Jaffer

Coqu

In terms youth graduates, big Willie could be next Coq to emerge.

Make mine a Swiss miss

I went to Wembley thrice in 1993 and listened to Sheff Wed singing about a mullet wonderland. He was marked out of the game and we took both cups.
Course my Dad had already told me mullet was a wanker so it was no surprise.
Perhaps The Ox’s dad didn’t mention that bit…..,
