Granit Xhaka says he’ll always cherish his first goal for Arsenal and claims his resulting celebration – a sort of weird quacking motion with his hand – came to him in a dream the night before the match.
The Switzerland international came off the bench to net a superb effort from 30-yards as the Gunners ran out comfortable 4-1 winners against Hull last month.
Reflecting on the strike, which was followed up four days later by a similarly remarkable goal versus Nottingham Forest, the midfielder tried to play down expectations that he might make a habit of belting the ball in the onion net from distance.
“I’m not somebody who will score a goal every weekend, but I’m always proud and happy when I do score – and if it’s from long range, then it makes me even happier,” he told Arsenal Player.
“It’s one of my strengths – shooting from long range. Sometimes it comes off, sometimes it doesn’t, but when they do go in, it makes me proud.
“It’s always special to score your first goal for a new club. Of course, this was a goal to make it 4-1, so it wasn’t that crucial, but for me it was very important and one I won’t forget. It makes me proud.”
On the nature of the celebration, the Swiss added: “It was spontaneous and I didn’t plan it. On the night before the game I dreamt about it. It was like deja-vu and that’s why I did it.
“Not that I’d score, but I’d seen the celebration in a dream before. Emotions were high too.”
So there you have it…the truth about Xhaka’s cracker quacker celebration.

Xhaka clearly should advertise his intentions to twat in a goal at any opportunity, that will make teams think twice about putting 11 men behind the ball

Any of our rival big spenders could have got Xhaka and have need for similar tpe player. INstead Wenger stole the march on him and panic bought him early. not a word from the press about this of course, they prefer to make a meal of the Mustafi ‘saga’.
