Report: Arsenal 3-2 Swansea (inc goals and highlights)

Arsenal: Cech, Bellerin, Mustafi, Koscielny, Monreal, Xhaka, Cazorla, Ozil, Iwobi, Walcott, Alexis

Subs: Ospina, Gibbs, Gabriel, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Coquelin, Elneny, Lucas

Arsenal put their Swansea hoodoo to bed at last but made hard work of a 3-2 win, having to play the final 25 minutes with ten men after Granit Xhaka was sent off.

Arsene Wenger named the same starting XI that beat Burnley 1-0 two weeks ago, Alexis getting the nod up front despite his relatively late arrival back from international duty.

The Gunners started brightly, with plenty of possession in the Swansea half, and half chances to make a chance with the final ball not quite right on a couple of occasions.

A 12th minute corner saw the first real effort on goal, Mesut Ozil’s delivery found German colleague Shkodran Mustafi whose header bounced away off the crossbar. At the other end Jack Cork shot wildly over the bar, before Leroy Fer spurned a great chance to put Swansea head shooting over from inside the box when he really should have hit the target.

Granit Xhaka saw a goalbound effort blocked and the game was fairly dull all around. That was until the the 27th minute when Arsenal took the lead with a fairly odd goal.

Iwobi played a good pass to Walcott, he fed Alexis who lobbed it to the back post for Bellerin. The full back nodded it back across goal, the defender tried to control it but didn’t notice Walcott who was there to poke it home from a couple of yards out. 1-0.

A good early ball from Xhaka helped Alexis beat the offside trap, however his attempt to lob Fabianski saw the ball drop wide of the far post. Ozil set up a chance for Bellerin whose goalbound effort was saved by Fabianski, leading to the corner from which Arsenal doubled the lead.

The corner came in, it dropped to Walcott in the six-yard box, who took a very nice touch, turned and lashed it home from close range. 2-0.

Just when it looked as if Arsenal were going to dominate, Swansea were presented with a lifeline. Xhaka got caught on the ball on the edge of the Arsenal box, Sigurdsson robbed him then curled a good shot past Cech into the top corner – although maybe the Arsenal keeper could have done better. 2-1.

The visitors might have even equalised before the break when Jordi Amat’s injury time header from close range failed to trouble Petr Cech, but the Gunners were living somewhat dangerously.

The second half began with Neil Taylor picking up a yellow card for a nasty scything challenge on Ozil, which could have caused the German a big problem had his foot not been off the ground.

Much like the first half, the game was scrappy, but when Iwobi’s brilliant run in the 56th minute caused panic in the Swansea box, Walcott should have had his hat-trick but saw his effort saved by Fabianski.

It sparked Arsenal into life and moments later we had a third. Alexis lofted a cross to the back post, it hung in the air for an age, but Ozil watched it all the way then smashed home a volley into the top of the net. A brilliant birthday goal for the German. 3-1.

The visitors responded by bringing on striker Borja for Leon Britton, and the substitute soon made an impact. Barrow got down the left in the 66th minute, he crossed it, Mustafi had let Borja get away from him and he tucked it home from close range. 3-2.

Arsene Wenger made his first change then, bringing on Francis Coquelin for Iwobi, but life got more difficult a minute later when Granit Xhaka got sent off. Barrow got away from the Swiss international on halfway, Xhaka tripped him up quite cynically but a booking was the right decision, not a red.

It put us under a lot of pressure and Barrow should have equalised in the 75th minute but headed straight at Cech when he had all the time he needed to grab a goal. Sigurdsson was next to waste a glorious chance after Barrow again created a great opportunity, but the Icelandic international fired over.

That led to two more Arsenal subs with Kieran Gibbs and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain coming on for Alexis and Ozil. Walcott almost made the game safe in the 84th minute after a fantastic break by Bellerin, he cut inside and saw a shot rebound off the post and roll across the face of the goal to safety.

Fer had another chance to equalise, but his header went straight at Cech in the 89th minute. As the game entered 4 minutes of added time, Fernandez was next to head at the Arsenal keeper, before Bellerin got a sight of goal but was unable to poke the ball past Fabianski.

In the final minute, Oxlade-Chamberlain set up Walcott for a hat-trick chance, but the 2 goal man skied his shot over the bar with the goal at his mercy. Thankfully, the final whistle blew moments later, and the Gunners hung on for a big, big win.

Stuff of champions.. but damn walcott how did miss that chance in the end.

DontPlayOx

Xhaka better get a rating of 2/10 for his performance today

Timisrightfoot

Xhaka led arsenal at the end of the game with interceptions, passes and ball recoveries. That was in 60mins only. That’s how good a game he was having except for making the mistake for the goal. Plus the red card was extremely harsh…so 2/10 is a ridiculous rating…
Had he gotten away with just a yellow – we would’ve applauded him for the clever foul as barrows was tormenting nacho at the time…

rohit

Actually, right after the tackle, this is the precise thing that I said – good he did that; one for the team.

David M

me too. How was that a red? for the life of me I cannot understand it. It is a totally misunderstanding of the rules or something darker. We better protest that…and win, all he did was trip him. How was that violent conduct or a dangerous tackle?

Overall happy with the result. Definitely a few lapses, but we looked great going forward. Like the guys above apart from the red (bullshit red) and the stupid mistake on the 1st goal, Xhaka was everywhere

Gooooooooooooona

Dude he got the man from behind and didn’t get anything on the ball, that’s as clear a red card you’ll ever see. Just have to take it on the chin and carry on.

Bob's Mexican Cousin

Not sure which reds you’ve seen so I can’t agree with you on that front. Not in a million years, the ref went full retard.

*Please don’t come at me again PC people… No harm intended to anyone other than the ref’s behaviour

Vincent Kompany's Forehead

Lol @ these comments Yes the red was harsh, at the end of the day though it was a cynical tackle in a not so threatening area of the pitch. It wasn’t like Barrow was through on goal. Xhaka has 8 red cards in the past 2.5 years, for a player who isn’t a specialist DM like Coquelin, nor is he a defender. If he had gotten a yellow instead, its likely he would’ve continued fouling players. Xhaka is great but his discipline is an issue he really needs to work on, because his dismissal almost cost us today and… Read more »

Gooooooooooooona

In a way I’m kind of glad he got a red today because he’ll learn from it, next time he’ll think twice in that situation. Like what Wenger said, intelligence means not making the same mistake twice, coq learnt after that horrible red against Spurs, and I’m confident he’ll learn from this one.

Arsefull

There are many positives to the game starting with a) we won; and b) both Man Shitty and Spuds drew. We should have put this game away however in the first half and while I sincerely hope that Xhaka eventually becomes a club legend, he nevertheless had two serious brain fart moments that I dare say if other lesser regarded players on Arsenal had committed there would have been more of a shit storm here. But that is why you have a deep and talented squad and Le Coq is back so the damage done by the red card is… Read more »

Andy

I can understand why most people think it was just a yellow for Granit and that was my first impression. However it wasn’t a case of him committing a professional foul by a cynical trip, he absolutely whacked him with the same force he use in his goal against Hull. I think that’s why he sent him off!

Edu's Braces

I think it was because he jumped with both feet off the ground momentarily which is concerning because that would mean 3 games but you’ve come to the wrong place for honest analysis, any hint of non 1000% partisan bullshit and the downvotes will come.

Vincent Kompanys Forehead

YUp

rohit

Why do you worry about the downvotes?

You stated your opinion, people are stating theirs. Is there anything wrong in that?

Gooooooooooooona

Honestly I thought he had a poor game but when you mention the stats it makes you think twice.

Anyways we have plenty of cover in that position. I thought we should have brought Elnenny on today, the guy runs so much it’s like have two players on the field!

Either way, great win today! COYG!!!

DontForget

Ok Mr “DontPlayOx” lol.

Dan P

No you are wrong, I absolutely loved it, reminded me of Willie Young!!!

Arsenit

I don’t know why people are thumbing down your comment. I wouldn’t even give him a 2 rating. More like a 0.5 if possible. His tackle was from behind, nowhere near the ball and cynical. He deserved a red card. A similar foul was made by a player in the Dortmund v Hertha game yesterday and the player was also red carded. He could have put the team in serious trouble today. Coupled with his error leading to the goal I’d say after serving his suspension bench him for a few games.

Jimbo1

This might be a pro Arsenal website, but it was a definite red. He jumped in and took the guy out cynically. It was not necessary as he had not even crossed the half way line and still had plenty to do. Xhaka could have cost us the game, not the ref.

Toni

Actually I think the tackle was a good one. He took one for the team. Barrows was getting his rythm on the right flank and tormenting Monreal. He did not last 10 minutes after that.

Rufusstan

Yes to both, and how the fuck was that a red card, especially when you consider what Moss had let go earlier.

Bob's Mexican Cousin

Refs can be real cunts at times

frank

All of the time.

Mpls

That was a garden variety trip with no possible way you could argue last man or goal scoring opportunity. The only thing that even makes it yellow is the cynical nature of stopping the play.

If we don’t appeal this one we’re fools. Especially with Coq back in case the referees do what they seem to like to do to us.

Toni

So Ozil decided to be fancy today. Hell of a goal, and nice backheels. For what it is worth, I think The Ox did great and should have gotten an assist for his run.

Amusa

What drug was the linesman on?
In a game of fine margins, gave 3-4 very shit offside decisions.
Özil, Theo and Walcott were all onside and almost 1 on 1, on each occasion.
Plus the shit decision by Moss does my head in.
Are they just shit or crooked?

David M

shit and crooked

A xerioz Gunner

Crooked shit

PodB

Spurs are crooked shit.

GunnerDareMACEDONIA

I think this season wenger makes the right substituions when we are in trobule. right subbing of alexis he was knuckerd after coming only friday on training, ozil was also tired, great first sub with gibbs I was crying for him to come one since the red card as barrow 2 time passed monreal and we nearly concided, great decion not to sub walcott and put him centar forward if he had his luck it would have been 5-2, also great subs and decion last game at burnely to keep walcott which he won the head and ox with kos… Read more »

SG_Gooner

walcott, alexis and mesut would have more one on one chances if only the crossed eyed linesman can fix his parallax jinxed eyes!

Ox in the Box

TOP OF THE LEAGUE

Yankee Gooner

Second due to goal difference. [womp womp]

Ox in the Box

🙂 Still really happy we closed the gap with supposedly unbeatable Citeh. Premier League is wide open right now.

Anonymarse

They are going to be in a world of pain on Wed against Barca

Psycho Gooner

And two out of two wins against two bogey teams of recent times.
I hate those ‘S’ teams- Stoke, Southampton, Swansea, Sunderland. Shit.

GunnerDareMACEDONIA

I can’t wait for the stoke away, that would be the sweatiest win of all the bogey teams.

MyArse

I really want us to beat whoever is managed by Mourinho

Anonymarse

Good day for us. City and Spurs both drew.

GunnerDareMACEDONIA

City drawing vital, spuds wil always collapse, liverpool is big big threat nad chelsea had come back for the crisis, really hope for draw between pool and utd, but seeing that cunt murinho losing is like seeing arsenal wining against Swansea I can’t stand him always going where the money are indefinitely available for him to buy players for 100milion and saying he won many titles. But to be reasoned draw will be great, with another draw next weekend between chelsea and utd .

Vincent Kompany's Forehead

Spurs are a good side, led by a good manager, with the best defence in the EPL; they may always collapse but they are still a threat to us and others in terms of taking points off top teams.

But don’t let that get in the way of your narrative.

Fireman Sam

Spurs will always lack class. Essentially because they are shitheads.

MyArse

Wish I could double up vote your comment re: Maureen. My sentiments exactly.

D

What an absolute CUNT of a referee. The FA should drop Jonathan Moss to ref non-league football. In Syria. Well dug in lads. COYG!!!

Anonymarse

Think the Syrians have suffered enough

Fabulous

The ref definitely tried to f**k us over.

GunnerDareMACEDONIA

And FA awarding penalties to city every games, 8 penalties as many as games, even 6-7 were penalties if they were penalties for us the referees would awarded only half. And seeing PEP has become medial favorite and FA favorite.

Anonymarse

As long as they keep missing them

Andy Mack

Yes he was useless but most of the refs are!

Mpls

That red was worse than useless. He was looking for the opportunity.

rohit

How many offsides did the linesman get wrong today? And I think all were leading to serious goalscoring opportunities.

VT

just ran out of finger nails T__T

Not sure how many matches Xhaka going to be banned for, but I think it opens the door for Coquelin to return to the line up (which, based on today’s game, isn’t a bad thing).

And now the premier league table looks more like it, joint-top and above Sp*rs!

Rufusstan

Zero if we appeal the card

Crash Fistfight

*zero if we appeal successfully. Likely that someone will come up with some reason it was a red card.

It must be for violent conduct, so that would be three games (unless it was for denying a clear goal-scoring opportunity – who knows what was going through John Moss’ mind).

Mpls

I really fail to see how either of those could be argued from that tackle and that field position.

Crash Fistfight

Nope, made no sense to me. As other posters have said, I was happy he took one for the team instead of being nice.

Tanned arse

It’ll be 3. Clearly the intention was to trip the guy but ultimately it ended up as a kick. Violent conduct.

Crash Fistfight

So why wasn’t Neil Taylor sent off for his wild swipe on Özil?

Cas

Professional foul. 1 match

assistantref

What was going through John Moss’ mind is “oh crap, I’m too fat to be close to the play again and didn’t see what happened, he’s rolling around, looks like something bad happened, better give a red because I’ve already been talked to for missing important things because I’m so far behind the play.”

Armchair Expert

Fuck me! Did it have to be this hard? I think I aged 5 years in the last 20 minutes.

Gooneron

phew……

Crash Fistfight

Honest question here: if anyone knows why that was a red card can you enlighten me?

Otherwise, a welcome three points 🙂

Just a shame it had to be so tense at the end!

David M

I know why. The FA and the PGMOL are a pack of crooked cunts

Ox in the Box

Walcott, I love you. Two goals and really unlucky with two posts. Arsenal is a really dangerous team with him and Sanchez up front.

Frank

Theo Walcott: Consistent in patches Resquiscat in pacis!

PFo

Sorry, I’m happy to say congrats Theo, on his goals and excellent form, but there was nothing “unlucky” about that miss in the last minute. One of the worst of the season, just happy it didn’t cost us anything.

Arsepedant

Look on the replay, the ball bobbles up just before Theo makes contact. He’s unlucky there.

Bob Davis

Could have made our lives easier and had this game wrapped up in the first 20 minutes.

Sanchez looked tired. Don’t know why he started.

When are we going to find that killer instinct?

3 points are nice though!

COYG!

Crash Fistfight

I thought Sanchez was pretty darned good, considering.

He wasn’t helped out by the linesman in the second half getting 3 or 4 decisions wrong.

Godfrey Twatschloch

I agree Sanchez looked off. A couple of wasted chances from him and he should have been subbed sooner. Quality run and pass from Ox!

One goal shy of the top spot and Spuds slip to slot beneath us. A good game and a good result!

Andy Mack

Poor game by Moss yet again.

Cracked

If John Terry had done a foul like that against one of our boys he would have only got a stern talking to. Maybe a yellow card.

Why is it when teams are cynical against us they get praised for it, but when we try it we get the worst possible punishment for it.

Fabulous

That’s the thing. And to think Swansea finished the game with a solitary yellow card. I was fuming by the time Sigurdsson got that free kick for a 50-50 with Mustafi. Absolute fucking abysmal refereeing today. And that Sanchez 1-1, clear as day an onside you’ll ever see.

David M

And literally 1 minute after the red we had a break and their player shirt grabbed (I think Santi) who pushed through the challenge kept running and Moss played the advantage. Never called it back for a Red card. Red card right that is what the punishment is now for cynical challenges…

Public Elneny Number One

how about that attack on Theo in the 1st half when he was about to burst through on goal and went down for a few minutes? not a fucking sausage

Andy Mack

Around 34 mins he should have got a yellow when he (and then [I Think] Fer) were cynically trying to stop a break by Santi. Similarly when Theo got the 2nd Sigurdsson should have been penalised for holding Xhaka in the area (in fact most corners Swansea were using wrestling tactics).

Godfrey Twatschloch

John Terry is a cunt!

Godfrey Twatschloch

And John Moss is a shit ref!

Public Elneny Number One

mmmmmmmmmmmmm something about the name John

Godfrey Twatschloch

John Mourinho, John Costa and the list goes on…

Bob Davis

Where’s the 500 thumbs up button!

rohit

how did theo not get his hattrick today?????

Brilliant.. brilliant performance.. We are playing amazing football right now.

Yankee Gooner

Accidental thumbs down, but in fairness a better question might be “how did he not bag 5?”

GUN

Because of that shit linesman?

Maniac

Well I now have about 50% less hair than I did when that match started.

Rufusstan

I’d say the same, but half of zero……

thw14

Win is a win, but some familiar mistakes starting to creep back in. Not a bad time for some hairdryer on the training ground.

VT

I think the team played well and dug deep in after the Xhaka red card.
Considering our key players were returning from an interlull, I thought it was a well-fought 3 points.

eternalflamini

Iwobi attacking play was gorgeous at times but he could have done a lot more to help out Monreal. He was sort of ambling back for that second goal, it was really annoying.
That gripe aside, I’m going to spend the rest of the weekend basking in the light of some of our sublime attacking play. Walcott, bloody hell.

Laycawn

As much as I admit that Monreal could have used some help, that second goal was a lapse of concentration by Mustafi. He was almost apologizing to Kos in the aftermath.
The thing is, even if crosses come in, the centrebacks have to deal with them. Kos was marking the near post and Mustafi was the one who was watching the goalscorer (can’t remember who).
But it’s all good. Mistakes happen. Three points in the bag anyway.

Anonymarse

Straight red for THAT?

Paul

hello mate

Anonymarse

Hi 🙂

eternalflamini

Sheesh get a room guys.

Anonymarse

Lol

Andy Mack

yes that was an unbelievable decision.

Paul

Was just saying hello…but if that professional foul was against us….?

Bobbyp

Fuck me that was tense. I love Theo but he sometimes can be guilty of not being clinical enough in front of goal. Still did well with two goals. I am loving Iwobi. That boy has dancing feet. Good win.

Buzzy Gurkha

IWOBI gonna be a BEAST !

PFo

Already is.

Alexstratz

Heart attack simulator 2.0.

Getso gunner

Believe me I almost stoped breathing when Barrow got that free header, and guys Walcott really hates hatrick

Marje

Go to the hattrick wall in the East lower. Theo features, as does Santi.

Xxxrob

Ridiculous red card.
Some ridiculous offside calls.
Some outrageous uncalled fouls, particularly Amat and Taylor the cunts.
5 point deficit clawed back in last 2 weeks.
Onward and upward!

shokim

Happy Birthday to Mesut on his birthday, and congrats to Theo on his brace.

But we never seem to make it easy on ourselves, do we? Was watching with my heart in my mouth after Xhaka’s sending off for Swansea not to equalise!

loose_cannon

Can’t believe Walcott didn’t get a hattrick today, the best and worst of him today. Shocking officiating, never red and those linos need retraining big time. Xhaka had a shocker today mind, and we really need to talk about Monreal. I think Gibbs deserves a run at left back now. All in all great going forward, dodgy as fuck at the back. Classic Arsenal!

Paul

I like gibbs

Goon

We have to appeal the red. Xhaka didn’t pay well today,he’s still adapting to the pace. After internationals i wasn’t expecting a very good performance but this will do just fine

Westcodes

I like how Mustafi immediately apologized to Koscienly on their second goal. Borja was is man but he let him go and immediately too responsibility, that will foster their understanding.

kaius

Yeah noticed that a lot this season – players holding their hands up and taking responsibility for individual errors, as well as players having a go at teammates for not executing properly (Theo did that to Alexis early in the season and I’ve been watching those interactions closely since then). And it’s being done in the proper spirit of teammates who know they have to push each other to excel. Very good sign imo.

David M

mustafi had a good first half, but he wasn’t getting tight enough in the 2nd especially as most of their attacks came from the right therefore Koscienly is the unsighted defender on the striker who covers low crosses and near post runners, Mustafi needs to stay tighter on the back stick. Hopefully he learns from that game, by rewatching the videos

Espen

Wenger should have brought Gibbs on earlier as Monreal got a torrid time againt Barrow.

leroy

barrow looks like a good player and he’s only 24. hmmmm…

Mpls

If he keeps diving into the turf knees first he’ll be done by 26.

JD25

I think Gibbs should have come on immediately after restoring the 2-goal lead to help out on the left. Barrow was clearly having fun on Monreal. Good win for the team. Jon Moss should be ashamed of himself.

kaius

If Theo or Hector had put two of those late chances away, we might be top on goal difference right now. Really looks like these guys are on a mission!

Jeremy O Dwyer

I don’t think the red was a terrible decision. It was a cynical trip with no chance of winning the ball which stopped a dangerous counter attack that could have led to an equalizer. If we’d been on the receiving end I’d have wanted a red too.

I know we get lots of terrible decisions from referees, more than most even, but I don’t think that call is worth getting angry about.

Another win!

kaius

Agreed, no problem with the red. Barrow had to go off later and we rightly go mental when it happens to our players.

Next time you want to take one for the team Xhaka, just grab the shirt instead mate!

Andy Mack

rubbish. That was a yellow card offence all day long.

Smudger's Noggin

With Barrow on for the last moments of the game it could have been a lot worse, in a way Xhaka preserved what we had in that moment, they created more chances with 11 on 10 but Barrow could have made the difference, oldschool dirty work from Xhaka. A certain Manu Petit would have likely done the same…

Andy Mack

You mean he did what Sigurdsson and Fer had been trying to do all game long, but he got a red because he actually stopped the player, whereas Sigurdsson and Fer had only managed to slow our game down (and didn’t even get yellows)…

Smudger's Noggin

Agree it was only a yellow though

loose_cannon

They’re never given as a red though! Always a booking, I don’t think anyone expected a red there

kaius

No you’re right, reds for those aren’t usually given and are never given against us. But I still have no problem with it because Xhaka cut Barrow’s game short and you never want to see that.

Unless it’s John Terry or Wayne Rooney. Because then I’d laugh, kick back and light up a cigar.

loose_cannon

We don’t know Barrow went off because of that challenge though do we? Best of luck to him anyway

David M

I’m sorry but you are wrong. It is simply not the rules. Red cards are for violent conduct, dangerous tackles, or stopping a clear goal scoring chance (last man). This was a trip; a cynical foul that is 100% a yellow card as he was not through on goal as we had a row of defenders waiting. Absolutely WRONG decision. We HAVE to contest it

Mpls

Cheers.
There is nothing in the rules or years of interpretation to call that a red.

kaius

I stand corrected. We should and probably will contest it.

GUN

Don’t think so. Xhaka was not the last man and the ball was in Arsenal half. So that ‘goalscoring chance rule’ cannot be applied here. It was a yellow card offence. Nothing more.

PFo

You may have wanted a red if we’d been on the receiving end, but you would almost never have gotten it, which is why it’s a shameful decision. Consistency, is all we ask for from the officials.

ENJ

Oxlade chamberlain looking like Bale when he came on. Albeit against a attacking/tired Swansea.

Paul

and?

Trez

First of many red cards for Xhaka I’m afraid…he had a bad game. What a game though….we showed grit to hold on for a win; but then again, we made things difficult for ourselves. Theo could’ve scored 4 and we’d be top of the table…but good performance regardless. Alexis lacked a bit of sharpness but he still contributed in his own way. He’ll need a rest soon. Wenger made some very good subs today…..credit to him. I normally don’t criticize referees, but FUCK JON MOSS. No way that was a red card. He looked so vindictive as he gave that… Read more »

Spandiar

All those back flicks and show boating from us after the 3rd goal…as if we wrapped it up. Stop this nonsense until the end of the whistle. Sometimes it makes me feel it’s better if we hang on to a 1 goal lead.

PFo

I don’t think the showboating is a problem per se, provided it mostly comes off. the real problem is the generally sloppy play that usually comes with it: loose passes, rushed decision making, too many players (e.g. the fullbacks and Santi) flying forward in front of the ball despite the fact that we didn’t need to score more. I’m all for going for the knockout blow, but there’s a fine line between continuing to attack and keeping the pace high, on the one hand, and making the game unnecessarily end-to-end, on the other. in both halves the sloppiness after getting… Read more »

Ricardo

At least they are making chances and scoring from corners. A few weeks ago they wasted so many.

The defense are showing signs of previous weaknesses. If this is Arsene’s last season, he needs to focus on fixing this at all costs.

AusGunner

Weird game that.

I’ve honestly never seen a straight red given for a foul like that when it wasn’t on the last man. really strange

Buzzy Gurkha

Me too

Campbell's forehead

The noticeable improvement this year is that we’re actually scoring a lot of goals. Just feel we’ve struggled in previous seasons with this. Long may it continue!

Thierry Bergkamp

Sounds like Xhaka had a good game.
Onwards and upwards.

MrBrain + Ozil's vision

Shitty officiating all round. Well deserved victory… Xhaka still adapting. Walcott could have scored 5 today. But still, top notch perfprmance from him.

Annddd! Guardiola is beginning to see first-hand the difference between Laliga and Bundeliga.

PFo

Yeah, because in those leagues it’s easy to score penalties, whereas here your best players tend to inexplicably miss them…

SG

Always very tough to play, the Swans. Thank goodness we showed we have a bit of bottle in this iteration, would have crumbled after the second goal and sending off in the recent past. The lads had an above average game save Monreal who looks, game after game, like he’s ready for the knackers yard.

Paul

Blimey! Monreal went from hero to zero quickly…fickle at its best…

Crash Fistfight

I was going to say that his form has dipped since the last couple of months of last season and then I realised that it correlated directly with Iwobi’s introduction into the side.

For all his fantastic attacking play he doesn’t get involved enough going the other way. Hopefully he’ll learn how to balance both sides to his game in the future, as attacking-wise he’s been a real revelation.

hessojay

That moment when you start chewing your wallet because Arsenal made you do so. The last 20 minutes was unbearable for me. I’ll need a deep sleep now. When I wake up, I’ll savour the victory and 3 precious points.

Antispuds returns

Didn’t see the, lucky me. 3 point and no heart attack for the last 20 minutes. After international break it’s normal for players to look tired with miss placed passes reckless tackles etc. The great thing is the swans have been giving us hard time recently and that’s no more. Spuds and shitty dropping points! Have a nice weekend everybody. Oh and Fatgoonerout

Javis

Having seen the Xhaka tackle again it wasn’t as high ass I originally thought. However it was lazy and cynical, if he’s gonna do that grab a shirt and don’t risk the possibility of a red.

Great win considering City and Spurs results,we should have been out of sight twice and top on goal difference!

Andy Mack

It wasn’t risking a red. The red wasn’t justified in anyway from a ref that let the Swansea players off 4 or 5 yellow cards.

Hi-brid

What on earth was Cech playing at, leaving that shot for their first goal? It was nowhere near the top corner even.

Pigeon Superstitions

Thought the same. He just seemed rooted to the spot, with no time to react. However he had ample time to react and should have been a fairly easy move and push from where he was positioned. Cech still does have quite a few dodgy moments for us since he joined, but he hardly gets panned by the fans the way Szczesny or Fabianski or Ospina would have been had it been them making the same kind of errors. He also makes some good saves but I feel the criticism which Szcz got which drove him out of the club… Read more »
