Wenger hoping Ozil has a taste for goals

Much like an animal who eats its first person and develops a taste for human flesh, Arsene Wenger is hoping that Mesut Ozil’s goal will convince the playmaker to shoot more often.

Ok, it’s not like that at all, but the Arsenal manager is still looking for the 28 year old to add to his goal tally, saying in training he’s banging them them in left, right and centre.

“When you see Ozil finishing , you think a little bit that he doesn’t take his chances to shoot enough,” he said.

“When you see him in training, he scores basically when he wants. You speak with the keepers and he’s one of the most difficult players to predict where he’ll put the ball.

“I’m happy that he scored and I hope that gives him the taste to try more.”

And with the club record signing entering his peak years, Wenger is looking for him to produce more in front of goal.

“He is 28 now,” he continued. “In the next four years he has to combine style and efficiency.

“He had always fantastic style, fantastic efficiency in assists. But efficiency in his position is also finishing and he has that in the locker. It’s not that he hasn’t got it.”

He’s definitely got it all right, I mean, look.

Oooof!

I could watch him smash that volley into the roof of the net on a loop forever..

Cornelius P. Snuffington III

The connection he made for that goal was the connection his goal against Chelsea was really begging for, it would have been even more beautiful.

David C

beautiful connection, but I’m left wondering whether Fabianski should have come out for the initial cross or charged at Ozil. Maybe the pass surprised him or it was in that in between area. A very RVP type volley!

Now we need him to sign a new contract!

Arsepedant

Fabianski had no chance of stopping the ball from reaching Ozil, and if he’d come out, Ozil would just have trapped it and gone around him for an empty net tap-in.

Savage

I get so annoyed when players lean back on the volley, especially guys with good technique like Cazorla.

Nice to someone executing the volley correctly!

Bould's Eyeliner

Cazorla is a bit of a special case, because he is so short… I assume he needs that extra leverage haha…

Newxieland

For 250k a week he better hit double figures for the season!

Bob Davis

What a goal that was. I think he’s more than capable of getting 15-20 goals a season!

Rambling Pete

It’s great to see him score more regularly, he definitely has the quality to put them away more often than he has in the past. And it’s inevitable that he’ll start creating goals too so I genuinely think we could be on track to see Ozil’s best season yet. I can see him being held aloft by team mates in May after which they’ll all go for a party somewhere, probably a swish rooftop bar with a swimming pool. Although I would urge caution because drunk swimming causes more deaths each year than snake bites and spider bites put together.… Read more »

welcome back! I started reading then thought : hang on, I recognise this style…anus replacement surgery…priceless! reckon Mourinho needs some…

king Julian of Draxlanistan

i missed you!

Thierry Bergkamp

Off topic. Does anybody else think too much is being made of tonights match? They are only playing on this Monday night because they have no Champions League football to play tomorrow/Wednesday

Sean

Thierry Bergkamp- so true. It’s unbelievable the amount of build up this match has been getting. We’re perfectly aware of the rivalry, and there’s pretty much nothing at stake at the moment (I mean it’s 2 months into the season and United haven’t even looked a real threat yet!). “Red Monday” can’t be over soon enough so Sky Sports can get back to the brilliant “Merson’s predictions” and their thrilling “free transfer xi’s”, oh wait, never mind.

Sean

Oh and btw, if there’s one comment thread you should feel comfortable going off topic on, then it’s surely rambling pete’s 😉

shokim

This. Seriously sick of all the red hype. Match can’t be over soon enough for me.

David C

let them hype up all games, it’s good for the EPL and gives our league more money!

I’m hoping for a tie tonight and perhaps a few red cards.

OneBeatOff

Fuckin’ excellent. 🙂

I think that getting a serious goal tally depends on a certain amount of physicality – Walcott barging the defender off the ball for the first goal was a good example (and also an example of how a player can improve).

Ozil is still well off the pace when it comes to the physical fight of the Premier League.

Rochester

What?

Anonymarse

If Ozil and Iwobi chip in with more goals as well as Theo we’ll be very hard to stop

Welcome back Rambling Pete we do miss you

Arshavin's fake moustache

I heard his chant after he scored and wished it’d been happy birthday instead. Imagine 60,000 people singing you happy birthday, more awkward than a family gathering where you don’t know where to look or what to do.

Merte Xhaka

Rumbling Pete ? ? ? Awesome stuff mate! I think someone should sneak a funnel web into Chelsea dressing room. A cunt like Diego Costa could do with an anus replacement. Then he’d be known as Diego Shitbags 😀

Blogs, I think you could do worse than a compilation of Rambling Pete’s ramblings over the years…..mouth watering

Useless panic buy. 42.3m Wenger absolutely must have been desperate tow ait so long and late into window for this guy, neglecting Higuain along the way to save money for a potential bid. He didn’t even bother to send BFG to soften it a little with Ozil. He could have paid even more for him if he didn’t have to wait for Real Madrid because of Gareth Bale saga. Never mind, just bid say 80m cos we are so flush with cash and didn’t need to reinforce in any other positions down the line. Now watch him do a panic… Read more »

If Ozil should move on, we can find a replacement.Wenger has always done. After Bergkamp we had Fabregas, after Fabregas we were a bit short of option but RVP stepped up. After RVP we had Ozil.

NO one is too big for the club but the imperative is to keep him on.

santori

As for goals, Ozil certainly has developed a taste for it this season.

Its great that currently, both the goals and the assists are being spread around the team, it makes it so much more difficult for opposing teams to handle. Shut one instigator down and you have another coming at you.:D

rmpauden

Ozil is a good player but until he consistently offers the goal threat that Bergkamp did he can.t be considered an Arsenal great imo

Mootilated

2015/16 Season: ”Ok Mesut. You did well last season. But I want you to provide more assists to help the team.” – Goes on to hit 19 assists in the EPL.

216/17 Season: ”Ok Mesut. Great assist tally. But I need more goals from you this time.” – Scores 3 goals in his first 6 EPL games.
