Arsene Wenger says he’s pleased that Calum Chambers loan spell at Middlesbrough is going well, as the 21 year old has begun to feature more regularly for last weekend’s opponents.
Premier League rules meant Chambers couldn’t play against his parent club, and Boro’s defensive display was enough to keep Arsenal at bay.
Despite a slow start to his time with Aitor Karanka’s side, the Arsenal manager is encouraged by what he’s seen in recent weeks.
“I watched Middlesbrough against Watford and was pleased with how Calum Chambers performed,” said Wenger.
“He’s getting better in every single game. He played right-back in the last 20 minutes against Watford and he looked very good.
“I’m very happy because he’s a player who I feel has huge potential, but he needed experience and Premier League games.
“In a very short time at Middlesbrough, he has become a very important player. They rely on him and trust him a lot, and that’s very good news for Calum first, but also for us as well.”
Good stuff. Has a lot of potential so let’s see what he achieves.
Him and Holding could be Arsenal and England first choice in a few years.
In Bellerin, Chambers, and Holding we have the makings of what can potentially be a very good back line for many years to come.

He looked to being OK at Charlton until he got that 3 match ban. If anyone needs a loan back to a French team it’s him. Add some value before he inevitably moves on.
Chambers has got fierce competition ahead of him in Mustafi ,Mertesacker, Gabriel and Holding. All of them are right footed centre backs which leaves me wondering what the medium/long term plan is as Koscielny is the only left footed centre back, notwithstanding Montreal and his ability to play there. Seems strange.
Kos is not left footed.
And it’s not that important in Central defence.

Giroud had he been an option would have been good to bring on against Middlesbrough, we are going to need plan B and plan C to break teams down this season.
Chambers would definitely come good. All he needs is game time.
I hope Chambers can get back into the starting 11 after Boro put up a clean sheet and good defensive performance against us.
It would be horribly ironic if our lack of cutting edge resigned our young player on loan back to the Boro bench. Sigh.
