Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe says that Jack Wilshere will decide his future this summer when he returns to Arsenal at the end of his loan spell.
The midfielder will have just 12 months left of his contract, and as yet he has not been offered new terms by the club.
Perhaps that’s because they wanted to see if he could stay fit at Bournemouth and make a contribution to their season. Wilshere has played 23 games for the south-coast club, as well as 2 substitute appearances for Arsenal, so from a fitness point of view he’s avoided any signfificant spell on the sidelines.
However, in terms of end product, he has yet to score a goal and has just two assists to his name.
Nevertheless, Howe believes what lies ahead for the 25 year old will be interesting.
“Jack will be the one who decides his future, in conjunction with Arsenal,” he said.
“It was very clear at the start of this loan he was going to make his decision in terms of the next steps for him in the summer.
“He just wanted to concentrate on his football with us, to try to just have the best season that he can.
“Jack has certainly had a good season with us as far as I am concerned, and it will be interesting to see what happens beyond that point.”
Wilshere has been left on the bench for Bournemouth’s last two Premier League games, both of which they won after winning just one of their previous 11 with Wilshere in the side.
Loss for words. What little I’ve seen he has done well in a deep lying role. Being a team sport good players, or even the best, depending on their position can’t carry a team completely. That said, with good players, making good runs, we all know what he is capable of.

No he’s not. He has been playing number 10 role in a 4-2-3-1, and now Bournemouth has switched to a 4-4-2 and Wilshere’s been dropped.

It’s weird about his end product. And I’ve watched a few Bournemouth matches, to me he didn’t seem involved enough. I felt it was down to his teammates, or the system, in those cases. I remember constantly wanting them to pass him the ball more. But it didn’t look like his fault that he wasn’t getting the ball in good situations. Harry Arter seemed to be much more involved, and again I don’t know if that’s simply down to the system, didn’t watch them often enough. Wenger even said in the past he wanted to build the team around Jack and viewed him as a future captain. We’re far from that now but the talent always remains. He is more talented than The ox, El Neny, Xhaka and Coquelin.
The issue though is he’s an oft injured 25 year old who isn’t even starting for a club in the bottom third of the table anymore. While he had tremendous potential it’s possible that his body won’t ever let him fulfill that potential. He’s at an age where he needs to be the finished product – would you want to sign him if he wasn’t already an Arsenal player? Seems highly doubtful
He needs to stay with Arsenal. Jack and Ox are the type of fighters Arsenal need more of. Then give Alexis all of Ozil’s money.
Considering how much we’ve missed Cazorla this season, and how Jack is by far the player most similar to him, I’m surprised the decision to retain his services isn’t more obvious. This season was a transitional year, to cement his fitness more than anything – requesting that he contribute substantially within a brand new team style, in this year, I think was too much to ask. I dont think they will let him go. Considering the fact that our support staffs worked closely with Bournemouth’s to manage his workload. It will mostly come to Wilshere’s decision as per the article.
Most similar to Cazorla, maybe.
Anywhere near as good? No.
I feel for Wilshere, I really do. If it where not for the injuries he would probably be on the same level as Verratti. Period. It’s like watching a “Diaby Light” all over again.
He hasn’t particularly impressed at Bournemouth and has injury issues.
I think we need to sell him.

In truth Gibbs has also been uninspired but he has the pace where Montreal makes better decisions but is wrong side of 30 and vulnerable to pace. lback may also need addressing.
Aside from potential Ozil, Alexis departures…plenty of issues.
I personally think Ox has done reasonably OK filling in in deep midfield. but he is better served still out wide attacking. Its 50-50 as he mentioned some advantages using his pace through the middle but getting to grips with defensive side. Feel in terms of current squad, young Iwobi has the chops to make it in midfield. For me they need to keep Wilshere play him with Xhaka and get Barkley for Ozil. We will have a midfield that can tackle as well as pass a ball and set up chances.
We just need a striker that will score at least 20 goals a season like Lacazette.
Also hopefully keep the ox and Walcott for pace up and down the pitch.
What ever happened to this prodigious talent of like 2010/2011……..same question for Ramsey…..where did they go???
