Matt Macey recalled from Luton loan

Arsenal have recalled Matt Macey from his loan spell at Luton Town in a move that suggests the keeper could continue to be involved on the bench against Crystal Palace on Monday.

The 22-year-old has made 13 appearances for Luton Town since moving to the League Two outfit and could now provide backup to Emiliano Martinez in the absence of injured duo Petr Cech and David Ospina.

Macey, who has one year left on his Arsenal contract, said earlier in the week that he’d like to play more regular first team football next season.

“I have another year at Arsenal next season and personally I haven’t thought about any of that, because it’s this season which is important,” he told Luton Today.

“That stuff’s all in the summer, I don’t think about that. For me, whatever happens next season I want to be playing football week in week out, wherever that may be.

“I won’t start to think about it until the last game of the season is done.

“I try not to worry about that too much as I want to be so committed to the club and the bigger picture is the club, and the club going up and the club winning games.

“It’s my longest spell, it’s enjoyable, such a challenge each week with whatever happens and the ability to bounce back from defeats.”

Macey was on the bench for last night’s 3-0 win over West Ham.

We’re not too drunk so we don’t know.

Macey was on the bench last night, not Huddart.

This is getting scary.

Martinez did well against West Ham.

Tasmanian Jesus

Macey i dunno about.
But i do think we have one of the best third goalkeepers in the world.
Martinez impressed last night, as he has the few other times i can remember seeing him play.

“World’s Best Third-Choice Goalkeeper”

Let’s hope Martinez finally brings the award home this year.

TheNicolau15

Can we call him “TWBTCK” yet?

eduardo

does the recalling of Macey suggest that Cech and Ospina’s injuries are long term, surely we would not recall the lad just to be a sub for one or two games.

Martin

So what would happen if Martinez was injured ?

Cliff Bastin

Jens Lehmann

Too Drunk To Be Offside

The club have been unlucky. Cech and Ospina are a very good GK 1 and 2 pairing. Martinez did very well on his EPL debut (?), but this is definitely bare bones stuff. Assuming Chesney has no recall option on his loan.

Was it Macey or Huddart on the bench against Sp*rs at their place last year? Ospina was clattered by someone and couldn’t even take the goal kicks (although that meant that they passed the halfway line), the junior keeper warmed up but wasn’t used. Even though Ospina could barely Wall. Not really great confidence there…

I’ve watched every Luton game this season and this is one of Macey’s ‘highlights’

Ouch. Young keepers are so frustrating. Hope Macey will come through though.

I’m sure I can find some stinkers of Buffon, De Gea and co!

Charley

Is Macey this season’s Coq?
