Yaya Sanogo grabs hat-trick for U23s

Yaya Sanogo scored a hat-trick as the Arsenal U23s came from 2-0 down to beat Reading 5-2.

The 24 year old hasn’t played a game for the first team since December 2014, and has had loan spells at Crystal Palace, Ajax and Charlton, as well as some injury problems.

The Gunners, with experienced players like Mathieu Debuchy and Carl Jenkinson in the starting line up, went two goals down before blitzing the Royals with four second half strikes after the French full-back had pulled one back before half-time.

January signing Cohen Bramall got the other goal.

The game was also notable for the inclusion of Alex Iwobi who has made 36 appearances for the first team this season.

It seems an odd decision to essentially demote him to the U23s on the day we face Crystal Palace in the Premier League.

Although the young Nigerian’s form has been a bit patchy, that’s true of almost all our players at the moment, and he scored the second goal in the 2-0 win over Palace in early January.

Maybe it’s just to keep his fitness up but it’s a an odd one all the same.

Media: “So now that you’ve sold Sanchez, who will you be purchasing to replace the Chilean?”
Wenger: *wiry grin* It is not always to buy, sometimes you have to find internal solutions that allows for automations and cohesions. We have Sanogo, he will surprise you.”

Arsenal fans: “AWWWWWWWW, HERE IT GOES”.

Is there something about Reading?

Counsel

Iwobi could do with less attention and pressure. That is the only way to ensure the demands of the first team do not outweigh his abilities.

ScotchEggsRule

An utter waste of wages. Let him go back to being a posty.

The Iwobi one is strange. If the u23 were fighting for promotion (as was the case last season) I could see the sense in a couple of our younger first teamers being lent to the side, but playing one on the same day as a first team match is baffling – particularly given the injury record of players probably in the squad ahead of him today (Welbz, Ox, Ramsey).

Lord Bendnter

This man has scored hatrick after hatrick, what more do you need?
And yet our manager chooses to start players like Sanchez and Welbeck instead. What has he got to do to get into the lineup? If this continues, we may lose him to Barcelona, and we would have no one to blame but ourselves

Get Yer Ya Ya’s Out !

Bramall ‘s the one I’d be watching carefully.

Lback position will need attention.

Monreal makes correct decisions but struggles with pace (and age)

Gibbs has pace but doesn’t always make the right decisions.

We will need to replace one shortly.

Debuchey is pushing the Under 23 age limit slightly
