Bellerin on in-game tactics and enjoying football

Hector Bellerin says Arsenal deserved their win over Leicester City despite being made to work hard for the three points by the visitors resolute defending.

An own goal by Robert Huth, who deflecting in a Monreal cross, was enough for the Gunners to secure a 1-0 win that closes the gap on the Champions League places to four points.

Speaking after the game, Bellerin underlined how important it was to notch another victory so soon after Sunday’s FA Cup semi-final success at Wembley.

“It was really important for us to get the win today,” the 22-year-old told Arsenal Player.

“The spirits were really high after the weekend, so we knew that we had to keep it up. Leicester is always tough. They’re a team that defend really well, so it’s always very hard to crack them.

“We had to wait until the last 10 minutes to do it but I think the team deserved the win. We had the most of the game and you know, there was good energy and good spirit and we’ve just got to keep it going into the weekend now.”

Arsene Wenger started the game playing with three centre-backs but reverted to a more familiar 4-3-3 formation in the second half with his side dominating possession but struggling to create chances in the final third.

The tactical flexibility paid dividends, according to Bellerin, who added: “Sometimes you’ve just got to switch the tactics.

“I think the team played with great energy at the beginning and we were getting chances, we just weren’t efficient enough. But then, towards the end we knew that we would have our chances and the goal came at the end.

“I think it’s good credit to the team that we kept going, we were patient and then we got the goal.

“Sometimes you’ve just got to keep switching system and make the other teams just think about it for a second and I think the team is doing really good. No matter what system we play, I think the team is performing so we’ve just got to keep it going and enjoy every minute of it.”

Gotta love the in-week tactical hair do flexibility. Too be honest I hated the corn rows but if he can find a way to fully regain that freaky pace I wouldn’t care what he chooses to do hair-wise. Much.

It’s not the system as much as the players and how they implement whatever the manager chooses to play. For example, no system is going to be successful when Walcott just kind of waltzes around out there no looking to get involved.

Maybe he was saying something racist, so they assumed he was a Chelsea supporter.

That desperately needs to be sung at Shite Fart Lane on sunday.

This is exactly what Wenger needed, flexibility of tactics. I think he was intent on trying to catch the Leicester defense quicker with Theo up top. But As I mentioned before, we are more structured with GIroud and he’s simply a pest in the box for the other side to deal with even if he isn’t scoring or not on the ball. which is why I prefer to see him get the minutes over the wasteful Welbeck at the moment or Theo who when he isn’t with the ball doe snot affect the game as much. Wenger switched from 3-4-3… Read more »
