The agent of Wojciech Szczesny insists the Arsenal keeper won’t make a decision about his future until he’s spoken to Arsene Wenger despite rumours linking him with a move to Juventus.
Yesterday Sky Sports Italia claimed that the Champions League finalists had agreed a £14 million deal for the Poland international. Szczesny has impressed during two loan spells at AS Roma and is mooted as a long-term successor to 39-year-old Gianluigi Buffon.
While it’s obvious the keeper is in demand, representative David Menasseh told Polish paper Przeglad Sportowy that no agreement has been reached.
As you’ll recall, Wojciech hasn’t played for the Gunners since the 2015 FA Cup final against Aston Villa. He’d previously been disciplined by the club for smoking after a January defeat to Southampton in January of that year.
While there’s no doubt about the Pole’s quality – this season he kept more clean sheets than any other keeper in Serie A – his temperament has often been questioned. That said, he insisted in a recent interview that time away from Arsenal and the experience of a new culture has helped him mature.
Arsenal could well look to bring Wojciech back into the fold as competition for Petr Cech with David Ospina looking very likely to depart the club in the coming months.
Get him back. If Juve want him he must be good. And he loves Arsenal.
Feel like big Pete Cech is the perfect mentor for him as well. Calm and professionalism personified.
He is an Arsenal boy but had also mentioned that Buffon was something of a hero to him. Its not hard to see how playing alongside him for a year or two would be tempting. He’ll be closer to retiring than Cech too.
Still i hope there is nothing in it as I’d love to see him back.
Whether we get him back or not, one of the biggest issues this summer that needs addressing is the goal keeping coach Gerry Peyton. We need to get him out of Arsenal. If anyone doesn’t know much about him, just YouTube him. This guy practically trademarked the Alumnia goalkeeping methodology i.e. rushing out of his goal like a daft prick at the completely wrong times, flapping at simple crosses, fumbling anything sent his way, rank poor distribution… the guy is a professional disaster. And we have him coaching our goal keepers. He is so shit at his job that even… Read more »
bring the boy home!
Those January defeats in January are always the hardest to take ??
The lad’s got his academics in order. I think he should be welcomed back into the classroom. Under Petr Cech’s tutelage he could be teh greatest!
This should be a no brainer Bring him back & give him a new contract.
Everything is always lies
Tis the season to be silly!
£14mil???
If Joe Hart is to sell for £20mil, then Szc must be worth as least £30mil
Come back while you still can Wojciech!
Should definitely come back.
He will play Europa league, League Cup & FA cup games, as well as potential injuries to Cech.
I would bring him back if he will sign a new contract if not sell him now while he has done well and his value will be higher.
If he will sign keep him as next season he will be fighting with Cehec for the number 1 spot.
He should be worth at least £30 million but if he doesn’t sign not sure who we would get to replace him as we need a good young keeper as chec is quite old now.
cech
Would love him back but think he’d have to be prepared to start as second fiddle and I’m not sure he would be. If he were, then I think he could make the position his own in 12 months’ time. You never know, he might see that as reasonable with, what, another ten years potentially left to be our undisputed number 1 after that?
Why exactly should he be second fiddle?
Why don’t we see who does best in preseason and pick based on form?
None of this pecking order based on factors that AREN’T form. It’s been such a blight for arsenal for so long.
Whoever is the best keeper in the summer wins. Whoever flops in the season gets benched.
Every year juve buys the best players in serie a that play for their rivals.
Nothing new here except szczensy probs wants to come home. Jack should have gone to Roma not Bournemouth. He would have found Italian football to his liking…
We should bring him back into the squad.
Juve’s next keeper wins the David Moyes “You Can’t Succeed a Legend and Come Out Alive” award.
Ouch!
He’s a good age now with experience under the belt.
Should be good competition between him and Cech and the latter can mentor him to eventually take over.
After years of neglect, the keeper situation is well managed….contrary to popular belief, not everything is mismanaged.;)
No brainer, ospina is going, so the pole in goal should return
I think this could be a very good solution for the coming years. Could we get a shake-up in the goalkeeping coach staff as well?
£14m seems like a steal given the current marketplace
