David Ospina will not be signing for Ligue 1 side Nantes despite the French side confirming an interest in the player.
France Football claimed earlier in the week that the Colombian was a transfer target for the Ligue 1 outfit, however, deputy general manager Franck Kita has revealed that Arsenal’s asking price is too high.
Nantes recently appointed Claudio Ranieri as their new coach and are embarking on something of a squad rebuild.
Speaking to L’Equipe about the approach, Kita said: “We asked for information, but it’s unfeasible for us.”
Ospina, who spent six years playing in France for Nice before joining Arsenal, has been heavily tipped to leave the Emirates this summer with clubs, including a number in Turkey, said to be keeping tabs on his situation.
No the asking price isn’t too high, you’re just looking at options that are out of your budget Nantes.
I personally don’t rate Ospina but I do feel a bit sorry for him. For an international goalie, he doesn’t seem to be the most highly rated of keepers judging by who has come in for him and how much they’re offering.
I think he’s an unbelievable shot stopper and great goalie. The one attribute he lacks is his size and ability to punch a ball out in a corner and be a presence – which is one of the most important attributes if you’re playing in the prem. Still tho, if no one is willing to meet his ridiculously low transfer fee then that’s great and he can continue to be our number 2. It looks like szsz is leaving and it appears Martinez is set to be our number 2. As promising as he is, he hasn’t played enough for… Read more »
Not sure how many years left on his contract, but I don’t know why a PL mid table side or a Championship side isn’t splashing cash on him. He’s a good quality first team keeper. Middlsebrough should part with Valdes and get Ospina. He needs first team football to represent his country.
Im not sure if Ospina is so keen to play in the 2nd decision. I would assume he’s not.

I’m pretty sure Ospina is too good to be playing in the Championship.
They should look at that pie-eating goalie. He has FA Cup experience and I’m pretty sure he would be very ‘feasible’.
This is mental. £4m is too expensive for a 28 year old, regular international keeper who was the starting Champions League goalie for a team ranked in UEFA’s top ten club sides? He isn’t even on huge money. Utter madness.
I’m amazed no one in Italy or Spain has come in for him either.
Who said 4 million?
That was a bid from somewhere else not an asking price we have put out there as is often purported.
Nantes may very well be referring to Ospina’s wage demands, rather than the transfer fee. Wages seem to have been the sticking point when trying to move on several ‘dead wood’ players such as Jenkinson & Debouchy recently so it may we’ll be the issue here too.
We’re going to have a really tough summer clearing the deadwood from the squad. Too many average players on too high wages : Ospina, Jenkinson, Debuchy, Gabriel, Gibbs..
Ospina is on £40,000 per week. Carl Jenkinson is on 45k!
Perhaps he’s asking them for 60k. Honestly, he’s a keeper that should be getting paid 60k not 40k
40k is a LOT of money for a small club….and despite what plenty on here would like to think about his ability, the market is telling us big clubs simply don’t think he is good enough.
Jenkinson gets more than Ospina ?
Really wouldnt call Ospina and Gabriel average, maybe not Gibbs either.
Gabriel has to stay, thats for sure.
They’re all average.
Why on earth does Gabriel have to stay ? Has been a really poor buy. Either of the Tottenham centre halves or Van Dijk, take your pick : all cost the same, all are much, much better players & would command huge fees. We won’t even get our money back when we try to sell him, even in the current hugely inflated market.
Gabriel is NOT deadwood.
Good, now stay put please Dave !! They are not worthy of your talent!!
In reality, Canaries to cheap for Ospina.
Too cheap not to cheap (neither to chirp) for Ospina.
Good, now let’s price Juventus out of Szczesny, City out of Sanchez & Liverpool out of the Ox. If we have to pay insane sums for our targets then its high time we make other clubs do the same.
Maybe why we are prepared to listen to offers on Szsc bc we may not be able to find a suitable buyer for Ospina.
Its either or.
