Jens Lehmann says he’s aiming to have a positive impact in his new coaching role at Arsenal and hopes the position will be a springboard to a future career in management.
The 47-year-old has been appointed by Arsene Wenger to work with Steve Bould and Boro Primorac on first team matters and has already been spotted at pre-season sessions at London Colney.
Opening up on his ambitions for the future, Lehmann told German publication Bild of his desire to go solo some day.
“Yes, that’s the point, the goal is to work somewhere independently.
“I spoke to him [Wenger]. There were then two more talks, in which I told him what I can contribute.
“I am the only new guy in the coaching staff, so I will listen a lot and keep my eyes open.
“My place will also be more up on the stands than down on the bench, I suppose. I hope to contribute positively with this.”
Lehmann is expected to be part of Arsenal’s touring party to Australia and China. The Gunners are due to play two matches this week at the ANZ Stadium in Sydney against Sydney FC (Thursday) and Western Sydney Wanderers (Saturday).
No doubt Arsene Wenger will be quizzed on his new appointment in the coming days.
Primorac and Lehmann in the stands. I think a second opinion from the stands is good. Who better than Lehmann?
Welcome back home, Mad Jens.
#BringBackTheInvincibleEra
Unconditional love for you Jens.
Until he grabs Walcott and shake him at halftime for not putting enough effort ?
Since Theo isn’t a small child, I think he’ll be okay when that happens.
That would endear him to me more than you can imagine
Dangit, I want to see crazy curls on bench.
I hope he brings ‘a magic’ to our squad.
Oh yes, what a magic he will be in the stands!
Thanks
To be fair, the management are getting some shit done this summer with the exception of extending expiring contracts (which obviously requires compliance from the other party)
Better late than never COYG
Being groomed to replace Wenger in two years?
Passion – ✔️
Accepts no bullshit – ✔️
Tactics – ???
Make him number 2.
Please.
Lehmann with the First team, Mertesacker with the youth team from next season.
Are we, dare I say it, laying the foundations for a post-Wenger era?
Can you imagine a Lehmann-Mertesacker management in the future, the bonkers with he calm and assured ?
They could do joint press conferences where they tag in and out like pro wrestlers and say completely opposite things. The opposition wouldn’t know what hit them.
Kicks Stan’s moustache into the stands.

Never take a £3m tip again”
There is something important that made Wenger’s decision to chose Hehamann. He have worked with him, for so many years and I thank he knows what to come from him. He will be working with bold, and they both Wenger’s players.
