Sagna glad to be Bac

In the 89th minute of yesterdays 3-2 win over Aston Villa, the 4th official held up his board to signal a substition. Theo Walcott came off and Bacary Sagna took his place to rapturous applause.

The Frenchman has been missing since a Sp*rs cunny shoved him off the pitch at White Hart Lane, breaking his leg in the process. After four months of rehab and recuperation, he made his return during a game in which comebacks were the order of the day.

I can’t have been the only one that winced as he went in for a 50-50 but seeing him come out the other side of it unscathed, and with the ball, shows just what we’ve been missing. And Bac is more than happy to have returned to action.

“I am absolutely delighted,” he told Arsenal Player. “It’s been quite difficult all these months – four is a long time.

“I just needed to get back as quick as possible and now I finally am. Now I just need to work even harder to get back because I have only had two training sessions and it is not easy. But I will do it.

“I will still work with the fitness coach but I will only get fit by playing games. I am just biding my time to start a game now but I am not rushing. I just want to give the maximum to get myself into the best position.”

It was also an emotional moment for Sagna, who told France Football what he felt when coming on. “A lot of emotion. Entering the field warming up, I had tears in my eyes.

“And it was just the joy of playing again, to find my teammates. And then, seeing my family and friends who had prepared a little surprise with a sign “Welcome BS3″ , it touched me. It was a nice ovation, it’s heartwarming. It’s a beautiful day.”

What a guy.

Top man. He’s been the best right back in the league for the last 2 and a half seasons.

paddymac

Mr. Reliable is Back 😀

Bac in Red and White.

Midfield Corporal

God bless you Bac. I had tears in my eyes too, just after they scored their second goal.

Nick

So glad one of our most consistent players is back. Definitely the best RB in the league.
COYG!!!

We have has many injuries especially the last few years it seems and out of all of them I think we have missed this guy the most.
Great to have him back at last.

sJ

hopefully his return will help Walcott too, who wasn’t too bad against Villa!

agree, walcott was much better than in the recent games. i think one reason for it is coquelin, who is a lot more attacking than djourou and does that overlapping-thing that gives walcott more space (though le coq also doesn’t seem to like crossing). and theo didn’t have to work that much defensively because song often fell back to the left back position to help coquelin.

still not happy with Theo if im honest, just think he can do so much more, its his indecisiveness thats letting him down. he needs to be told that it doesn’t matter if you dont play the right ball, just play one or the other properly and something might come of it – instead he usually dilly dallies a little and ends up shooting at the corner flag, running out of pitch, or being dispossessed. i really do rate him as a player, but just needs to find that consistency and self-confidence (not the unjustified one he has right now..)… Read more »

of course i’m glad he’s back, but i’m a bit afraid that he might be rushed. there might still be some risk of injury and he surely will need a few games to adapt. we can’t expect him to come back and be on the same level he was before his injury. so i wouldn’t be surprised if the boss would decide to use him only as a sub for the next few games.

Baccy kos vermaelen and szez.. There’s every reason that back four can do great things for this club … If they can just stay fit.. I almost lost it when mertersackers header got cleared off the line.. When he scores his first it will be smiles all round for the big man

Nick

Very true. BFG needs to get a goal. He’s missed a few fantastic headers. I can’t wait to see him celebrate!

I think all of the Arsenal fans where all smiling from cheek to cheek when the number 3 was held up on that board to signal the return on one of the true work horses for the team! The unsung hero! When he got injured I was devastated but I knew that he would be Bac!

AGunner

great to have him back! one of our most important components in the arsenal engine, we haven’t looked nearly as good defensively or even offensively whilst he’s been away!

Frog

The best player weve had for the past 3 years. Consistently plays at a world class level. My favorite gunner and gooner.

Highberry

I’ve been trying to find a link but to no avail, I remember (Christiano) Ronaldo being asked who the hardest defender he’s ever had to play against was, and his reply? Les Sagna, what a legend

Frog

I believe it. It’s funny how stupid assholes will criticize his game because they don’t like the way he crosses the ball. First off, his crosses are good, there’s just never anyone in the box to bang em in. Second, he’s the best defender we’ve had since dare I say TA. His motor never stops and here almost never gets beaten. And to top it all off, he plays this way consistently. Who else in the squad over the past three years could you say that about? Maybe cesc, but fuck him anyway.

Highberry

With you 100% Frog. I’m always saying he’s the most underrated player in England, can’t think of a time when he’s put a foot wrong, never gets into any trouble, and who could forget that bicycle kick off the line against Villa a couple of Christmas’ back? We’ll be telling our grandkids about this lad!

agree, particularly with respect to the consistency can’t think of a single incident where bac lacked the concentration, effort or stamina that led to a goal against. same can’t be said of, say, clichy. i’d throw in alex song as well – granted he’s not quite as metronomically consistent, but then again, nobody is. and i think it’s fair to say that the higher up the pitch you go the harder it is to deliver consistently excellent performance (qv: the little russian, theo, chamakh, etc etc). I really hope we’ll be able to add to the list – Wilshere, Ox,… Read more »
