Alex Iwobi has hailed the arrivals of Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang after the new signings helped Arsenal to a comprehensive 5-1 win over Everton yesterday.
With three assists for the former, and a delicious debut goal for the latter, they really made a significant impact, as the Gunners showed that at home they’re a force to be reckoned with this season.
The Nigerian international played his part too, but was asked about the fresh faces and enthused about their contributions.
On Aubameyang
“You can see that he’s got electric pace and an eye for goal as well. He was involved in the link-up play as well, so we’re definitely happy to have him and we can’t wait to see what he brings to the team.
“He’s fun. He’s learning faces but he’s definitely enjoying his time here and there’s still more to come from him.”
On Mkhitaryan
“We’ve seen glimpses in training and we were just waiting to see it on the pitch. As you can see from today, he’s just an amazing player.”
Iwobi also got in on the action, with an assist for Aaron Ramsey, and he played his part in that lovely fourth goal with a precision pass into Mkhitaryan which allowed the Armenian to provide the chance for Aubameyang.
Iwobi sucks at finishing.
But
He has a tremendous ball retention and physical hold up play . I have this wish of iwobi starting alongside ramsey/wilshere.He might just be the internal cdm solution.
So you would conveniently ignore his positional indiscipline and poor concentration levels to put him in the most demanding position on the pitch at CDM. Good luck with your plan in Football Manager son.

No way. Adrian Clarke believes he was the best player againt Crystal Palace! He played a part in many of our good moves yesterday.
It’s not his fault he didn’t cost the club a dime, cos that seems to be his only shortcoming at the moment.

Noooooo. The last thing I want is to see Lacazette defending at the top corner of our own box. Not because I don’t think he can, but because that’s the third least useful place for him to be behind minding the net and marking a CB defending corners. Maybe not CDM either, although I’ve certainly seen him put the effort into a few disruptive tackles.

He played well yesterday, and has played well over the last couple of weeks.
I know he’s had his ups and downs, but I find it curious how people are so ready to write off a kid who came through our academy, with no willingness to look at him as a young player who is still developing.
Its because he opted for Nigeria. My self not included.
As usual Mr. Blogs is spot on. Iwobi will have his ups and downs for a season or two and then mature into a great player.
Iwobi is 21. Amidst world-class play yesterday, he flourished. Allowing Mkhi, Ozil and Ramsey to shine. Two accurate through balls and an assist.

Agree, there is something to be said for bringing through young players and Wenger can be commended for that. Ask yourself honestly though if Iwobe would get in to the first eleven of any of the teams above us. And that there is the crux of the problem when bringing through such players. It often comes at a cost.

Here here! But young players don’t learn nowadays he’s terrible and not good at football need practice and not play wth other big boys on field with ball internet and typing to make comments and stuff.

Quite. I think Iwobi is a precocious young talent that has still finding out what it takes to be a top player. He has, more than most, found it hard to find a role in a team that was criminally weighted towards one player who played in his posistion. Spot on. However I still have a gripe over the fact that Arsene didn’t give AMN some minutes in defensive midfield when the game was dead and buried at half time. Wilshere was not required yesterday but he came on for unwanted minutes. Or better, he could have given Laca a few minutes taking off Aubameyang with 15 mins to go. The Cech injury changed the substitutions plan. We needed a comprehensive win without any creeping doubt from a near turnaround scenario. Jack was brought in for midfield composure, and AMN hasn’t played a serious shift in the middle for us yet. I’d rather have not seen a not yet fit Jack get on either, but I think the reasoning was sound.
At the end of the day we could afford Aubameyang tapering off in that field position, but we couldn’t in the middle of the park in order to see the match out.
AMN IF you bother tow atch him properly is still very green. Even as he is being educated at fullback, he makes mistakes not tracking players which could have cost us on a number of occasions. He is better continuing his education at fullback rather than pulled into a new position. Also Central midfield if you get it wrong has dire consequence. We can all criticise Granit but compared to AMN he is still way better in the position. I don’t think our league position can allow for us to play such an inexperienced player in such an important position, for so long. That is what frustrates me. He is a player who is still developing, who needs game time, but should not be starting our most important games. If we want to be the best, we have to play the best players we have in these positions. Iwobi has the best ball retention skills after Ozil. People expect better end product from him but i noticed that he has improved massively in the defensive side of his game since he first broke into the team.
The way he plays, even without end product he’ll end up having pre-assists and will contribute to link play. I just want him to focus on improving his concentration while defending and he will be a key player in our squad.
There is something to be said for bringing in such players, and Iwobe has lots of really positive attributes, which potentially could see him being a wonderful player. Whether he’ll ever be the quality of Ozil, Mkh, or any other top, top players is the million dollar question though, and while we’re finding out we are losing ground on the teams above us. Who’d be a football manager?!

Mhkitaryan can have a massive impact with his experience on not only Iwobi but Granit, Ramsey and Jack as well. But I thought Iwobi was excellent against Everton. He’s been showing glimpses of it for several games now but let down by erratic passing. This time, his passes were quick and incisive but he is also so strong. Good result for us between Spurts and Liverpuddle.
Even if we win next match against Spurts, they will have a slender lead but it keeps us right behind them and very close to Liverpool.
We have to start getting better over the course of an entire game now not just 45 minutes. If it means a bit of rotation so be it.

Like Wilshere his Stats don’t do his overall gameplay and talent justice… This guy gets alot of criticism but yesterdays game showed what he can do…Absolutely brilliant except in both penalty boxes lol…Although his tracking back has improved…Liked the way he threw Michael Keane off the ball and started the attack where Auba went through in goal. Does that alot but it goes unnoticed. For his age he is extremely strong, alot more physical than all our other midfielders.
