I cant see what would change if Bould took over. He just sits there with his arms crossed offering little. If he is working with the defence in training it clearly isnt getting through as this team are a shambles. Great comment. This is why I personally still think either of those two need Elneny as a partner; better an inferior workhorse runner to cover their deficiencies than pairing two defense-second guys.
Honestly I thought the new signings might mean we’d accept our defensive problems and try to outscore teams. But I now am completely on board with the problem being a lack of any semblance of a system from which attacking ideas might spring.
Our best (!) periods of play of late have had Elneny on the pitch. We need that positionally disciplined deep midfielder to give more stability at the back and allow the more forward players to play.
We had sooooooo many turnovers in the last several matches just trying to work the ball out of the back. He makes himself available and cycles the possession better.
He may not be everyone’s ideal but at this point there’s no use in discussing that because it seems he’s the best option and we haven’t got what we haven’t got.
wuuuut. I would really love to hear someones explanation on what exactly Xhaka gives our team. I think Jack really wasn’t that bad, at least he tries to move the ball and at least he tries to open and ask for the ball. Jimbo, to be fair….we haven’t a single midfielder this season who has really had a positive impact. Until we get the balance right (or even not terrible) there’s not really much point judging individuals. Neither of Xhaka/Jack or Xhaka/Ramsey were ever going work. I’ve been defending Xhaka cuz he’s not a Defensive Midfielder (which Wenger keeps insisting of deploying him as).
Second half, Xhaka played a lot further up the field and was at the hear of some of attacking football we played. Where as Jack, was just constantly running into people and losing possession.
And still people voting Jack higher/ same as Xhaka.

Watching the club plummet like a stone in freefall is very difficult but it’s not just a new manager we are in need of. Several of the players need to be shown the door, Ivan (wtf does he do exactly), this club has a rotten core and the icing on the cake an owner who does not give a flying fuck as long as the dollars keep rolling in.

Honestly think Cech is a massive part of the issue, with a better keeper today I don’t think we concede. Doesn’t help that there are two useless Cb’s in front of him but I honestly think he’s one of the worst keepers in the league. He has games where he makes a lot of saves but I honestly think most of them are saves other keepers would make too.

Gotta agree with you. I’ve been saying this for a while now, he’s no better than any of our other keepers but gets a clean chit during his bad performances due to his Chelsea reputation. A big part of a keepers job is communication and organization. He sees more of the field at one time and isn’t chasing around strikers. Does this defense look organized or like they’re communicating? Or do they look like jumpy squirrels who don’t trust the man behind them to make saves at all?
The defensive disaster is a melange of factors. A good goalkeeper can solve most of those (see also: de Gea). A bad goaltender exacerbates them.
Hopefully the rumours that the definitely not director of footballs no. 1 target is Jan Oblak he’s got that quality we need. I really do feel like big things are coming this summer. I feel like its the only way players like Auba and Ozil would have signed. Hopefully they know something we don’t

Neither Mustafi nor Kos are bad defenders, but they are not playing well as individuals and, especially, as part of a defensive unit. This is where you need good coaches and Management. We seem to have neither at the moment.
When you have a midfield unit that does not protect the defense then you are setting yourself up for conceding goals. I believe the midfield is more of the problem than the defense on their own. Midfield does not support the attack and does not protect the defense. A midfield three of Song Diaby and Fabregas on form would destroy a midfield three of Ozil Wilshere/Ramsey Xhaka everyday of the week.

Iwobi seems to be the only player that looks like he could get by a player and willing to take a shot. Mhik Welbeck have been much poorer than him in those wide positions. And thinking about it he is the youngest with least experience yet we say nothing of the so called World Class players we supposedly have and England internationals with so many caps to their names. I am sure if you look back to big games with Iwobi included that we won he played a major part in it.

While this game was painful it wasn’t as painful as seeing Ox turn in a MotM performance yesterday from centre midfield. Again. Makes you wonder which players should really be cleared out and which ones just need a change of style and management to flourish. Iwobi, Bellerin and Chambers are a few that I think could improve, young players that need more direction. Harder to make that case for Xhaka and Mustfafi…

I find it hard to assess Campbell’s time at Arsenal because, like Perez after him, he mostly played in the smaller games where we tend to do well. But I think he’d be worth keeping and giving another go

I used to be a captain of an esports team. We used to have bad spells of facing major defeats. We had lost confidence and didn’t believe in our ability. We went out of the way to play super weak teams just to regain our MOJO and confidence and to feel confident on our strengths again. We were competitive once we returned to the highest level. A change has to be made now even if to show the players and supporters that things will be different next year. Continuing on like this for two more months will do even more damage to the club and my worst fear is we win some meaningless matches late in the season and Wenger is kept on because of that.
