Arsenal have confirmed that Mohamed Elneny has signed a new long-term contract at the Emirates.
The Egypt international has made 65 appearances for the Gunners since signing from Basel in January 2016 and proved himself a very useful and versatile squad member.
Originally signed as a midfielder, the 25-year-old has also looked comfortable playing in the centre of defence this season. He was under contract until 2020, so we’re guessing he’s added a couple of years to that.
We haven’t had it confirmed, but it’s thought that Arsene Wenger pushed for a pay rise for Elneny as a reward for his excellent trolling of Alexis Sanchez before and after the Chilean left for Manchester United.

He is tidy in possession, has an unparalleled engine. He is versatile because he reads the game so well.

A very useful utility squad player with a strong engine.
I’m pleased he’s tied in for longer.
Happy with this. He has a trademark deep cross from the edge of the box to the back post that could yield results. Denied consistency of playing time doesn’t help build these natural chemistry between different set of players.
If you’ve seen him play for Egypt you’ll likely agree we haven’t seen the best of him yet. Buzzing like Mozart for them.
Looks much better recently: less sideways and back passing, moving into attacking positions after passing. Much better player than I thought.
I’m really pleased about this. He’s never going to be the star of the team or top quality but he’s an excellent option to have in the squad. He had a bad patch before Xmas (many did) and you could see he’d lost confidence, but his fitness levels are unparalleled and he rarely makes mistakes.
why would you make that assumption?? He can be the star of the team if he puts his mind to it and is given the chance. You have some sort of a crystal ball to predict his talent ceiling???

Great squad player, never complains about anything or his playing time he always wants to help the club and ready to be called upon and play his heart out. And i don’t think he got bigger salary he is signed on same one.
We need a better midfielder.
Elneny is OK as a back up and he is at very least diligent, has improved a bit but we simply need someone more commanding.
I feel we miss the ability to hold the ball and carry in midfield.
Santi provided this along with positioning acumen. It was a bit of luck, a bit of a master stroke for Wenger to convert him to midfield.
I don’t think we can afford a Pogba but someone of that sort of frame and tekkers may give us a difference in the midfield.
Underrated immensely. The way he plays with passion and dedication is credit to his character and the recognition of the huge opportunity he was given. This year he has never looked out of place despite not been played regularly and especially the last 4 of games. He defends, he spreads the ball forward more than most when transitioning from attack to defence. I really like him as a footballer and as a man. Well one MoMo

Many are saying he’s a great squad player but actually maybe he should be starting ahead of Xhaka outright. Either way, happy enough with this.
Elneny has a great attitude and has improved with game time this season. A good solid pro who’s best is still to come.
