Normally when Arsene Wenger is asked about his goalkeepers and their involvement in certain games, he’s quick to point out that David Ospina is the nominated cup keeper while Petr Cech plays in the Premier League.
The latter missed Sunday’s 3-0 win over Stoke with a groin problem but was back in full training today, and ready to take his place in the squad.
It was a bit curious then that when asked about his selection for tomorrow night, the Arsenal manager didn’t simply point out the pre-determined pecking order as he usually does.
Pressed on whether Cech’s return to fitness might see him start, he said, “You will see that tomorrow.”
Now, it could be just Arsene being Arsene and playing his cards close to his chest, but it might also mean that as the priority of the season has changed, he’s open to using his most experienced goalkeeper for a competition which provides the last chance of success this season.
We’ll see tomorrow!
Cech is better, get him in.
Yeah we should use Cech but neither are very good, we really really need to sort out a new keeper in the summer. I’d be fine with Cech as second choice.
Perhaps get that Szczesny from Juve – I wonder how much he’d cost and if we could get him?
I’d take a discount Jack Butland no question this summer. Aged 25 and he can do it on a cold rainy night in stoke.
Hopefully no one will have to do it on a cold rainy night in Stoke any more after they get banished to the netherworld from whence they came.
Aka mordor
One does not simply walk into stoke
may god bless you
I think Timo horn would be fantastic. Will cost only like 5 million . He’s 24, An olympic finalist and hardly makes any mistakes .
I am not sure he can do it on a cold rainy night in Stoke. They are going to get relegated ???
Or Fabianski from relegated Swansea?
I’m still not 100% sure it matters which of the two play. Both very good keepers, neither spiderman.
The last thing we want is Ospina russian out of his area.
Or Putin it in his own net
Yeah Lenin on the side of caution I’d Putin our best keeper, so stop Stalin and just tell Ospina he’s dropped…
Sorry, too much coffee today
I am sorry that I can only upvote your comment once.
Just need to win 5 more games and we get another trophy to chekov our list.
Okay, soviet then.
These puns are making me czary I read this post.
Really love you, Blogs. But you do this every season. It was the same with all the FA Cups. First Fabianski, then Szczesny, then Ospina. You discussed the possibility of letting our number one keeper play in the later stages of the cups every season. You should know by now that Wenger is a loyal guy so if he promised Ospina he’s the one for the cup games, he won’t change that, unless Ospina makes some realy big mistakes wich he hasn’t in the last weeks/months. At least not in an Arsenal kit. It’s everyone’s right to disagree with that… Read more »
Mayhbe getting him ready to be the cup goalkeeper next season? I like the look of the Keylor Navas rumours, especially since if true it means Madrid are in for De Gea again!
Navas is no better than Ospina, what would be the point?
Bernd Leno
got to stick with ospina
I really hope we have Cech in goal – but its unlikely to happen. Never rated Ospina, he has pulled off the occasional wondersave but all too often he looks nervous in goal, he never communicates with his defence, likes to stand behind his line or dive like he’s suffering FIFA lag. Hoping he moves on in the summer and free’s us up to get in a top level keeper.
Honestly Dele Ali is a better, and far more convincing diver that Ospina is. Then again maybe he’s trained better to do so.
Arsene holds the ace.
