Calum Chambers declared himself ‘gutted’ after Arsenal conceded a late goal to lose 2-1 to Manchester United at Old Trafford yesterday.
The Arsenal defender had performed admirably throughout alongside 20 year old Konstantinos Mavropanos who was handed his full debut by Arsene Wenger yesterday, but Maraoune Fellaini’s injury time header gave the home side an undeserved three points.
Speaking afterwards, Chambers said, “I’m gutted. I think everyone’s gutted and I feel that we deserved more.
“As a team we fought well and we fought hard and yet as you can probably tell, I’m just gutted.”
We think he’s gutted. He also touched on his defensive partner, Mavropanos, and was impressed by his performance in testing circumstances.
“He did really well. He’s a good player, he was strong out there and he held his own.
“I thought he was composed on the ball and had a good game. I thought all the young players had a good game and you know, it’s just one of those.
“We feel we deserve more than we got.”

Why do I get the feeling (just a feeling mind you, not sure) that the result has left him feeling just a little gutted?
I’m gutted and feel a bit deflated but so proud of the youngsters and the teams fight. We all knew we were going to play a weakened team, and I didn’t have any expectations, I just didn’t want us to get thrashed. But after being level with 2 minutes to go I was hoping for at least a draw. I’m hoping Ospina starting this game means cech will start on Thursday, he’s just not good enough and it makes sense playing your best keeper in your most important game. We’ve felt unlucky in our last two games, I’m optimistic things… Read more »
I’d also like Cech to play Thursday but knowing Wenger, reason he played Ospina is probably to get his confidence up for the big game . Let’s just hope his Latin flamboyance comes in handy against the Spaniards
Did he write the first comment on the match report??

I cant wait to see the players Mislintat will bring to the club. I still think Bielik has a future at the club, maybe switching him to centreback was a mistake but he still has enough talent to make it.
His problems have been injuries unfortunately, his was doing well on loan and I remember reading an article about his manager praising him. I really like him, and think he’d be great for 3 at the back.
I do still like Chambers as a player and thought he didn’t put a foot wrong against United. I think if you look at all the times he’s had problems at the back, Mustafi has been his defensive partner.. it can’t be a coincidence..
Plus Mustafi is living in the era of global warming and climate change.
It can’t be a coincident.
Am gutted seeing mou smiling at LeProf
Hopefully our new manager can wipe that smile off his face next season!
It will be very interesting how the new manager approaches our defense. Also how the fans see it. IF our defensive frailties are significantly caused by Wenger asking too much, not providing enough support…what will happen if these younger players get opportunities. Doing that, providing them opportunities, may be necessary for us to be competitive in the years to come. That will also most certainly make us slightly less competitive in the next 1-3 years. If we only get $50 million plus $ from sold players some approach like this will be a necessity. Not only do we not know… Read more »
Remember Holding? Started off with the same accolades from simpler minds who pronounced him the next great thing. Then he started to show some issues too. All these young potentials are going to have a learning curve. In defense, one of Holding or Mavropanos is better off away on a strong loan. The other can battle for a berth. We are better off getting in a ready made partner for Mustafi in lieu of the aging Koscielny. Also in midfield, AMN should strictly come in periodically as an option to learn the craft. His better future IMO is to challenge… Read more »
Chambers has been improving in his role.
I think next season, we should try and get someone like Koulabaly or De Vrij in to pair with Mustafi as Koscielny may then take a retiring role (ala Per) or be sold if the price is good.
Chambers will be the third option and then we can consider either of Mavropanos or HOlding to push these 3 for a starting berth as well. The other will be better off on strong loan to learn his craft with regular playing time. He won’t learn much polishing the bench.
