Emery: We finished the match with a smile on our face

His side may not have been on the top of their game this afternoon, but Unai Emery was happy with three points and a clean sheet as Arsenal overcame a dangerous Everton 2-0 at the Emirates.

After the match the Spaniard faced the BBC cameras, here’s what he had to say…

On his side’s five-game winning streak…

We want today to win for our supporters and also to continue our improvement. The three points for us is very important. In the 90 minutes, I think in the first half we didn’t control the match the way we want and we needed our goalkeeper continuing with a good performance to save us. In the second half, we can control better the match and not concede the chances like the first half. We can push to find our moment also with great efficiency. We finished the match with a smile on our face.

On Lacazette’s goal…

After the first half, we were speaking in the dressing room about helping each other more and pushing more and to control the match with positioning and in the defending moments not to concede chances like in the first half. In the second half we did this. The goal for Lacazette and how he finished the match, working a lot, and also the goal for Aubameyang, I think for the confidence for them it’s very important. For us the victory, the clean sheet, today [they] were the things for us.

On Aubameyang being offside for his goal…

I don’t look at the goal again, if it’s offside, it’s still 1-0.

On Petr Cech’s performance…

He started the position with a very big commitment and a very good performance for us. He has experience, which for us is very important. I want to give every goalkeeper the moment to play games and the confidence to continue helping. Petr Cech today was very important for us and he showed us with his performance today.

Hope things keep moving forward. Watford will be tougher but let’s hope we beat them as the next matches after that aren’t too bad.

I’d love to see us whack the s$%t out of Watford, and shut Deeney up.

A crunching tackle from Torreira should do it. Or Sokratis.

Hell, even Ozil would be fun

Sokratis Vs Deeney could be fun for sure

I really like Unai reply, if it’s offside, it’s still 1-0

renaissancerosicky

Nice to see new man Unai stick to the traditional “I did not see it” response for our offside goals.

SharpasFc

It was written into his contract!

Clean sheet and with Mustafi and Holding. Can’t say the same for last match against less robust opponents when we slipped two goals without Mustafi. OTOH, Torreira provides us more combative support and good positioning but we still let too many shots in at goal even WITH him in the picture. Bottom line is the entire team has to perform defensively. We are still an unbalanced team and whilst Ozil is a blessing going forward, he is still a liability defending. I also thought Auba (but for the goal) could have done better. Frankly would have preferred to start Iwobi… Read more »

not sure our players are good enough for that

The way I see it that offside goal makes up the lack of a penalty. Sure looked like a penalty for me. Hand was up and moved towards the ball even though it was really close, the hand was still in a “unnatural” position.
