Guendouzi hails Gunners ‘togetherness’

Matteo Guendouzi says he’s very happy with the way his Arsenal career has started and hailed the ‘togetherness’ inside the dressing room which he believes has played a big role in the club’s 16-game unbeaten run.

The 19-year-old has surprised everyone with how quickly he’s settled both on and off the pitch since signing from Lorient in the summer.

From the get-go, he seemed to make friends with Alex Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and since impressing during pre-season, he’s not looked back.

So far, the teenager has 15 appearances to his name in Unai Emery’s midfield and this week, on his debut, he caught the eye for France’s under-21s.

“I’m very happy about my start,” Guendouzi told Foot Mercato [translated by Sport Witness] while Interlulling.

“After that, the most important for me is the team, we’re on a good run of 15 or 16 games without a loss, which is something we need to continue on.

“We’ve drawn the last three games in the league, but we’re a very solid team, and I hope we can do great things.

“There’s a really good togetherness in the group, and that’s why we’ve made a good start to the season. It really is everyone together. There are no specific groups, and it shows on the pitch.”

Arsenal resume their Premier League campaign with a trip to Bournemouth on Sunday and then play four times in the space of nine days against Vorskla, Sp*rs, Manchester United and Huddersfield.

Guys like Guendz gives me hope. I know there’s the usual cries to “spend and spend BIG”, but I hope our strategy bears fruit. We now have old Diamond Eyes Sven, and along with our analytics, hopefully we can find more Guendz and Lucas Terrier to supplement what is genuinely a talented academy group with the likes of Nelson, Smith-Rowe, Eddie, Willock, Niles, etc to build a successful future. PS: Once he’s back to full fitness, I’m really keen to see more of our young Greek CB. It’s telling he was Sven’s first signing, and I hope (injury-permitting) he’s taken… Read more »

There are a few things under Emery that chime with what Guendouzi is saying (I wrote this elsewhere and it ends up with a similar conclusion): 1.He has a proper defensive midfielder in Torreira 2.There is less certainty on who will get picked, which keeps the players on their toes 3.The work ethic is far stronger, possibly due to 2. above 4.They have been luckier, the opposition have usually dominated the first half without scoring much 5.There have been more matches turned around due to 3. above and an overall better squad mentality, they are tougher (epitomized by 1 above)… Read more »

6. The players are fitter this season because of the new training regime. This might explain the work ethic better than the uncertainty in squad selection. 7. Uncertainty in squad selection might be because Emery does not know his best eleven or formation, rather than him making some sort of statement. 8. Even with Torreira in the side, we are much worse than last season defensively, when it comes to allowing opponents chances. Torreira and Xhaka are so very good though. We are a work in progress and with a new coach at the helm, time will tell where we… Read more »

Miles better than mediocre Elneny.

How anyone can give Elneny 6 and score Ramsey below that average Egyptian is beyond me.

IMO Elneny doesn’t even rate higher than Mustafi.

Load of nonsense your rating on the arsecast…no offense.

Watch the games again in its entirety away from the emotions of the first live viewing.

Watch what Mustafi does right or Granit. You’ll have a better perspective.

Deejay

You might be taking those a little too seriously…

I still love Arsene

Santori, sorry mate but what are you talking about,I don’t what to be rude but I am confused.

MaendTabs

It looks like a bad injury for
Jordan Nobbs at the end of a
4-0 win at Everton. A real shame
for her and for the team too.

Yagaru

There’s a separate article for that.

Don't boo Paul Davis

Looks like he is standing on front of the old Clock End
