Bundesliga side Augsburg have confirmed that Jens Lehmann has joined the club as an assistant to head coach Manuel Baum.
After a year on Arsenal’s staff, the former Germany international was forced out of the club in the summer as Ivan Gazidis undertook a reshuffle of the coaching team following Arsene Wenger’s departure. The 49-year-old made it pretty clear he wasn’t impressed by that decision and has been on the hunt for a new opportunity ever since.
While Augsburg may not be the most glamorous club in German football they’ve done well to maintain their Bundesliga status for seven consecutive seasons. It’s this that seems to have attracted Jens.
Speaking about his new job, Lehmann told the club’s official website: “FC Augsburg have developed incredibly in recent years. This is a brilliant opportunity for me to work as an assistant coach in the Bundesliga and to help the players reach their potential on the pitch.”
He’s due to take part in his first training session tomorrow. That should make for a few sleepless nights for the Augsburg first team.
I loved mad Jens!! Good luck at Augsburg ?
