Blogs this morning saying he hopes it’s not a conservative line up

Emery: today I play 8 defenders

Jayhouserock

Not sure he has much choice based on fit players

Berlingoon

Well… without Auba, Rambo and Mesut in the squad, it’s not like he has a lot of alternatives. But if they’re all not included for “tactical reasons“, I’m starting to get a bit worried about Unai‘s decisions to be perfectly honest.

Red-Sky

Seeing as the bench is no better, I don’t see many options.

Runcorn Gooner

Ozil the modern day sicknote.

Paul Roberts

I think he is being told in no uncertain terms he must leave in the Summer if he wants to play football.

AJD

If Emery genuinely wants a decent shot at the Financial Fair Play league next season he has to offload Ozil in the summer

Crispen

And buy a creative mid for free right… Intelligent

Eternal Titi Berg Pat Nostalgia

I am not an Ozil supporter but the tactics of deprieving him of football so that he leaves is wrong. Putting him on the bench so that he performs better is what I support.

Gudang Pelor

Pretty convinced the instruction to isolate ozil is from higher above, probably due to his huge salary, and the club’s newish strategy to tighten the cashflow. Disappointed that Arsenal would act like this.

Press Box Gooner

Wreaks of constructive dismissal in any other form of employment IMO

martin

He will play on Thursday guaranteed. Don’t need him against Huddersfield

martin

Rubbish. He will be fit to play on Thursday as will Aubameyang and Ramsey. Emery taking Europa League seriously

Der32

Very surprising lineup. Excited for Guendouzi-Torreira partnership, and big game for Mhki and Iwobi vs lower opposition.

Serpent

Not really a hyper-offensive line-up, is it..?

Glocken

Pretty sure Emery is now prioritising the Europa over the league & I can’t say I blame him, we’ve got next to no chance on making top four.

Come on your gunners!

Planet Ape

Next to no chance? Do you even get out of bed to write this BS?

Glocken

Do you really think we are going to beat Liverpool, Man City, Spurs, Chelsea & Utd to a top four place? If you do then fair play but I’m a realist, Europa is our best chance.

People might not like hearing it, but it’s the truth.

Billy Bob

We don’t have to beat man city, Liverpool, spud, chavski and manure to get into the to four – only need to get ahead of two of those, probably manure and chavski

Planet Ape

According to my reality we only have to beat two of the 5 teams mentioned. And sorry for the BS but I stand by my being in bed assessment. But I am positive we will get a good run again (hears how something behind him gets ready to bite him in the arse)

A Different George

We don’t have to beat those teams–we only have to beat the teams we play. Every remaining match is winnable; only Man United at home and the North London Derby away are against top opponents. The first will be difficult if United have not come back down to earth; the second is always completely unpredictable.

martin

It’s a battle between Chelsea, Man Utd and ourselves. Chelsea lost 6-0 today and there are 12 matches left so why be so negative

martin

In 5th place and 1 point behind 4th so we have no chance? Of course Wmery takes the one trophy we can seriously but not totally at the expense of challenging for a top 4 place

stranger

no comment

stranger

priceless Emery

Red-Sky

Before people start moaning, aside from the Ozil the rest would not be out unless for injury or illness.

Any way I back this lineup to produce more flowing football than with the 2 strikers system.

Adam

Aside from Ozil. Hahaha.

Paul Roberts

Looks ok to me. COYG!

Rich

That’s a very weak bench.
Will be interesting to see if that’s a 3-5-2 or a 4-2-3-1with Kolasinac in front of Monreal

I hope it’s a 4-2-3-1 with kolasinac left, Mkhitaryan Right and Iwobi as a No10

Russell Chilvers

underwhelming…

But obviously here’s to 3 points

Mann

I am really sick of his chopping and changing and 3 at the back sometimes 4 at the back but no creative player tinkering. Bollocks football. Not even easy on the eye. Psg flop

Gus

Emery is a prick for his treatment of ozil. Lost all my respect. Not like the team is doing much without him. Putting Suarez on against city was taking the piss.
I’d have Wenger back any day

Alex

PSG flop despite millions of euros in the bank…

martin

A flop who won a double and treble with PSG and 3 successive Europa Leagues with Sevilla.

Crispen

Hear Hear… We are aying some unwatchable crap.

Naked cygan

We should just play the U 23 team and just fking move on. This is a joke. Half the squad is unavailable.

Anne Noyd

Back 3?

Joe

Back three with kola and amn as wingbacks… I dont find it too conservative and should be enough to get the three points

YoungFabregas

Wtf?

Corona X

Have we EVER had a weaker bench?!

Ross

Back 4 please

Ash

Ramsey, Ozil haven’t played all season, how did they get injured. Humping surely seems the cause….

Jim

How did that slip by the moderators!? Jesus what a comment!

Mann

Haha

Pat Rice and Beans

F*ck off with 3atb formation.

And this ongoing situation with Ozil is pathetic, always a cheap excuse (illness, back aches, not physically suited etc).

Anyway, is a must win game and the we have the tools to beat them comfortably.

COYG

Alex

UE should have the balls to clearly say he wants to get rid of Özil (what we all know) and basta.

FanniboyWelbz

Does anyone know the reason why they were left out?

Craig Bradford

Auba didn’t train with the team on Thursday due to illness and didn’t travel with the squad last night. Kos had same illness apparently on Tuesday and Wednesday. Maybe a bug going through the team.
Ozil didn’t travel but don’t know why or why Ramsey isn’t there.

FanniboyWelbz

Thank you for the clarification. Was making sure before I start assuming the worse

Anne Noyd

Ramsey is still having twins

Jim

Auba through illness. What about Ramsey?

Kwame Ampadu Down

Areenal.com :
‘Auba and Ozil miss out (illness), Ramsey (knee) and Xhaka (groin) also out’

Pat Rice and Beans

Slight knee problem (source: Arsenal’s Instagram)

martin

Yes. Emery giving greater priority to Europa League and saving them

Jack4343

Emery is a world class troller. Next week we will beg for Mustafi to be left out and he will clone Mustafi and play 11 of him. Well played sir!

Stephen

That XI is very depressing. Not all his fault. There’s a lot of long term injuries and some sickness. Thank God it’s Huddersfield but we’re always the easiest team to beat for minnows. For some reason.

AFC

Surely the ideal game to start Suarez? We’re doomed if Iwobi plays…

martin

He’s having a fine season and he played and we won and he scored

q8arse

non toxic comment passing by

Vin_Unleaded

Could be a virus that’s affected the 3 of them.

Paul Roberts

I like that we are playing wingbacks with Lacca up front. If Iwobi and Mikki can perform this could be good? I’ll eat my words later…:-)

Jim

There are plenty of players in our squad that I really rate, however if you read all 18 of those names out on that team sheet today it is cleary not top four material. Anyway let’s get behind them GOYG!!

Richie

3-4-3 hopefully with Kolasanic and Maitland-Niles playing as wingers. We’ll win and we should score at least twice.

Futsboller

Results are ultimately all that matter when the game is in the rearview mirror, so hopefully Emery gets the three points we so desperately need today with this lineup. But I have to say, Emery sure knows how to dampen expectations in the leadup; I really do miss the way we would set up to attack and take the game to the opposition. Our international reputation and televised presence grew because of this positive approach, and though I realize we need to be better defensively that does not come about by putting an extra centreback on the pitch and this… Read more »

Kwame Ampadu Down

Set up to attack ? Maybe. Manage to attack? Quite often no.we’ve not been very exciting to watch for a while now ? 100% agree. Since well before Arsène left.

Futsboller

For sure, but isn’t the point of bringing in a new manager to get us back to where we should be, rather than cementing our position where we are? I realize he needs time to get the team he wants, but I am disappointed that he’s not doing a better job cultivating the Arsenal brand. I hope I am proven wrong today and we get that early goal and take the game to them.

Futsboller

Looking good so far, and AMN is enjoying acres of open space down the right. Hopefully we keep this up and control the match till the end. I really do love being wrong!

Kwame Ampadu Down

Yes….but I think there’s a huge underestimation going on of the job he is facing. Whether that’s loyalty to Arsène I’m not sure….but Emery walked into a right mess : a weakish, unbalanced squad, lacking in character & leadership ……or even a discernible style of play.
This season is about steadying the ship from it’s rate of decline. Am I happy with all of his decisions? Of course not…..but to be as close to the top 4 now given where we were when he took over is quite an achievement imo. I’m prepared to wait before passing judgement.

Futsboller

Fair enough, but the top-four was the measuring stick with which we used to beat Wenger and the squad, again and again and again. I think many justified the dismissal of Wenger and co. last year because he’s had a squad good enough to make the top four, but he hasn’t been able to get the performances. Emery inherited an unbalanced squad, sure, but he’s been given a handful of new starting players to improve that, a better defensive-minded midfielder than we’ve had in the past decade, and he’s got two of the best strikers in the PL leading the… Read more »

Thierry Bergkamp

Ozil is really lacking vitamin C, ill again!

Alan90

No illness…tactical reasoning from emery

Billy Bob

Diakhaby!!! Any relation to Abu?

Rob

7 defenders against Huddersfield, who haven’t scored in 8 hrs?
Really?
Unbalanced at best, at worst extremely poor tactics.
Arsenal has a proud reputation and standing no wonder last week tv commentators described us “ the perfect opponent” to secure 3 points against.

Come on arsenal/emery prove you are good enough!.

Hantal

I hope Willock gets on the pitch for a decent length of time

ElTorros

Pobga won against Mourinho….Ozil will win …and the club I support will be maybe still six in the league unless Kroenke remembers he owns a football club, but at least we will play some decent football. Not watching today…too many creative players benched for all the wrong reasons…

Johnny Jensen’s right foot.

Obviously you haven’t supported the club that long, if you’re not going to watch because of ‘a lack created players’. We used to have David Hillier and John Jensen in the same midfield once…..and that was before all these Arsenal keyboard-supporters.

Anshul

We need to beat Huddersfield 5-0 to improve our goal difference.
Hopefully City will do us a favour by thrashing Chelsea!

Sue

Not used to leading at half time, especially by 2 goals!! ?
