Report: Sp*rs 1-1 Arsenal (inc. goals)

Result: Sp*rs 1-1 Arsenal
Competition: Premier League
Date: 2nd March 2019
Venue: Wembley

Starting XI: Leno, Mustafi, Koscielny, Sokratis, Monreal, Guendouzi, Xhaka, Mkhitaryan, Ramsey, Iwobi, Lacazette

Subs: Cech, Maitland-Niles, Kolasinac, Torreira, Suarez, Ozil, Aubameyang

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang missed a 90th-minute penalty as Arsenal had to settle for a point against Sp*rs as the North London derby ended 1-1 at Wembley.

Harry Kane’s penalty cancelled out Aaron Ramsey’s first half strike setting up a frenetic finish that saw Lloris save his side and Lucas Torreira receive a straight red card.

The Gunners put in a creditable performance, especially before the break, but they were undone courtesy of generosity from the officials who should have flagged Kane offside before Mustafi’s poor decision was penalised.

First half

Despite having Stephan Lichtsteiner, Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Carl Jenkinson as possible options, Emery made the bold decision to pick Shkodran Mustafi at right-back as he lined up Arsenal in a 4-2-3-1 formation for the 185th North London derby. The experience of Nacho Monreal was preferred ahead of Sead Kolasinac at left-back with Sokratis and Koscielny in the middle. Matteo Guendouzi and Granit Xhaka were charged with anchoring midfield while the responsibility of creating chances for Alex Lacazette fell to Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Alex Iwobi and Aaron Ramsey. In total, there were five changes from the side that beat Bournemouth.

Alex Lacazette might have opened the scoring inside two minutes but his snatched effort, following a deflected pass by Iwobi that looped over the Spurs defence, went wide. That opening gambit aside, it was a relatively low key start as the sunshine bathed Wembley.

We looked up for it. That was immediately obvious. Koscielny and Sokratis, in particular, were vocal as they offered early encouragement to their teammates. We were happy enough to let the home side have the ball, but as soon as they got to the box we did our best to crowd them out.

Spurs probed and posed questions but they couldn’t get space to shoot. Harry Kane who was full of his usual hustle and bustle and the Arsenal tactic seemed to be to harry in him pairs. It worked. Even better than might have been expected. On 16 minutes, Koscielny grabbed the ball off him, Xhaka cleared long and suddenly we were ahead.

Aaron Ramsey will get the plaudits for a fantastically composed bit of football, but Alex Lacazette’s work in the build-up was equally impressive. The Frenchman held the ball, waited for the Welshman to make a run and then fed him a perfect pass. Off Aaron went. With Wanyama chasing him, he bound towards Lloris, took the ball around the keeper and tucked home into an empty net. The Arsenal fans went ballistic. “This is my fucking pitch,” yelled Rambo. Legend. (1-0)

The home side continued to dominate possession, focusing their attention on Nacho Monreal’s flank. The game was fraught and frenetic. Players on both sides snapping into challenges and giving a bit to the officials when decisions didn’t go their way.

We survived a scare on 24 minutes when Kane thought he’d equalised. His header from a Trippier free-kick crashed into the top corner but the flag went up. Offside. Correct decision. Leno took it upon himself to slow things down whenever possible, it earned him a warning from referee Anthony Taylor, but it was well worth it.

Monreal stopped Son from wriggling through the defence. Eriksen hit a low shot just wide and Vertonghen flashed a long-range shot wide. At the other end, Iwobi cut in on his right and forced a good stop from Lloris, who flung himself to his left.

Mkhitaryan’s willingness to collect the ball, often from Guendouzi, and then carry it, jink inside markers and play simple passes was vitally important when we were so often penned in. By and large, we were comfortable but if it wasn’t for a brilliant double stop from Leno we’d have conceded.

90 seconds before half time the keeper made a heroic double stop. First, he used his feet to deny Eriksen who’d been played in by Kane. When the rebound fell to Sissoko the Frenchman looked destined to score but somehow the German got a strong hand on the ball to parry it over the bar. It was enough to preserve our lead going into the break.

Second half

Lucas Torreira was introduced at half time in place of Matteo Guendouzi. The Uruguayan slipped in next to Xhaka.

Chances came and went at both ends before the hour mark, but the game was very bitty. Trippier had an opportunity to test our defence from the right but he hit a terrible cross that flew out for a throw-in on the other side. The groans of the home fans were noticeable. A few thought they’d scored when Alderweireld hammered a volley into the side netting.

In between, Xhaka, Lacazette and Iwobi combined to free Monreal inside the Spurs box on. The cutback was ripe for burying, but Laca couldn’t wrap his foot around the ball and it sliced wide. Our striker buried his head in his hands. Not long after Emery sent on Aubameyang in his place.

Iwobi and Aubameyang had shots charged down. Xhaka swung a free-kick to the back post that had Lloris flapping. Mkhitaryan went in the book and tried his luck from range. Substitute Lamela, on for Wanyama, did the same.

Leno had to be brave to bail out Mkhitaryan who missed a header at the back post allowing Rose a chance to squeeze a shot goalwards. The German took a full boot in the chest and required treatment.

Emery’s final change saw Ozil come on for Ramsey. The German got a word in the ear and a pat on the back before heading into the fray. Rambo got a high five from everyone on the bench.

Almost immediately, Spurs won a penalty. Kane, who was offside when a free-kick was played into the box, got a shove from Mustafi and hit the turf. It was stupid from the German, another brainfart on his CV. Xhaka’s annoyance with the decision earned him a booking. Kane stepped up and sent Leno the wrong way. Wembley erupted. (1-1)

Given the swing in momentum, it was vitally important that we calmed things down and tried to ride out the storm. Every challenge in the centre of the park seemed to end with someone in a crumpled heap. It looked like we were happy with a point. Then on the break, Aubameyang went and won us a penalty in the 90th minutes.

The Gabon international, having had his ankles nibbled by Sanchez, stepped up. He didn’t look confident. Lloris guessed right, parried the ball clear and Iwobi’s rebound was forced over by Vertonghen. Absolutely gutting.

Just to rub salt in our wounds, Lucas Torreira was shown a straight red card in the fifth minute of injury time for a high tackle on Danny Rose. It was a bitterly disappointing end. However, a draw away from home represents a decent point, even though we’ll likely be out of the top four by the end of the weekend.

The big games keep coming, we head to France on Thursday to tackle Rennes and then United pay us a visit on Sunday. That’s a huge showdown.

I knew auba was going to miss his penalty as soon as he went down. His head dropped too soon.

Disappointing result overall but we were defensively solid. Shame the ref didn’t give the offside

Former Top 4 regulars

Mustafi should get transfer listed I know it was good side but come on

Goooooooner for life

I for one feel for him. Have you ever tried to keep in explosive diarrhea? That’s what his brain farts must feel like!

Leon

Feel for him?
The guy is a useless lump.
Will you feel sorry for him when he single handedly destroys our chances of CL football?

Gilgamesh

He did something similar with Augero in the final last year.

Bob's Mexican Cousin

We need to get a new Mustafi. Goes full retard very often.

Hantal

The barge was a foul but had the offside been given bit wouldn’t have mattered. Overall he was decent on the right today

Anonymarse

No he wasn’t. It seemed like every time he got the ball he lost it or did something stupid.

Stephen

Shit every time he touched the ball. Brutal crosses. Don’t understand the last minute free where we played it to him out wide like we expected him to deliver a ball or something.

Anonymarse

He frequently delivered it into the stands yes

Thierry Bergkamp

He offered absolutely nothing going forward, his crosses were poor and his passes were clueless. Defensively he wasn’t as good as the other 3 defenders, but better than his usual standard, when he wasn’t on the floor

Stuart

Retard? Please.

Anonymarse

Gets the point across I suppose

Bob's Mexican Cousin

Please watch Tropic Thunder, it’ll get your mind off things (and you’ll see where the reference comes from).

Stuart

Sorry mate but the word is offensive.

Bob's Mexican Cousin

Call the PC police then.

cygan'sbaldspot

Mustafi being retarded is what’s offensive.

Leon

But it’s no reason to commit suicide is it?

Frog

Pussy.

dr Strange

Why get a new one when we have the original?

Anonymarse

The last thing we need is another

DB10s Air Miles

Mistaki

Axedsoul

Ditto, on the other hand, Kane’s poise practically screamed for itself that he was gonna score.

Dastardlydick

Yup. And you could’ve predicted our ‘England captain’ would be awarded a dodgy pen against us before the game.

Comedian

Yes even the same feeling. His face showed he isn’t confident in taking the penalty. But then there was no other player who i thought could replace him to take the penalty. And Mustafi needs to be sold. He and Xhaka have this habit of being too careless or dumb in every game, even if its just one moment in the game. I think Emery got it right today but one stupid player had to ruin it. Saying that Auba should have scored.

Anonymarse

Xhaka is doing it less now to be fair and I think contributes more

Dastardlydick

I’d have put my money on Torreira putting away a pen.

Cycs

You ever seen him take any? Hmmmm ?

Red-Sky

VAR need to come here very soon.

GoonerJust

In the grand scale of things, i thought that was a good performance. Had the referee didn’t fall a sleep, there would be no Kane’s penalty despite him being mustafied by Mustafi. The miss by Laca was horrendous, he will definitely have nightmares in the nights to come. The miss by Auba was predictable, judging by his facial expression before the kick was taken. Auba was below par tonight.

Bosscielny

In the replays you can see, Vertonghen 3-4 yards inside the box before the Auba penalty was taken. Not only is that encroachment , he goes on to clear off the line.

David C

Var would have cancelled out both pens, but how the official missed the encroachment is beyond me. Also, why did Danny Rose not get booked for that pathetic dive at the beginning of the game?

Northern Gooner

Has anyone seen how far into the box Vertongen was?….no wonder he managed to tackle Auba on the line and yet noone complained!

Red-Sky

The ref should’ve given a repeat. Add it to the list.

Thierry Bergkamp

Aubameyang has never convinced me as a penalty taker, he never finds the corners. Apart from that and Mustafi’s moment (as you’d expect), the boys did me proud. Pap and Monreal were brilliant. Lacazette should have put the game to bed. It kinda feels like a loss when we probably would have taken a draw at the start.
Did anybody else know a red card was coming once the commentator mentioned the ref not showing one this season?

GunneRon

So fucking disappointing. We had 2 big chances including a penalty to kill them off . But Auba and Laca failed to convert them. Leno, Kos-Sok, Monreal, Iwobi, Micki were all fucking amazing. But shout out to Aaron “this is My fucking place” Ramsey who went out in style in his last NLD. A shame his well taken goal wasn’t the winner as Mr. Calamity himself, the perpetually inept Mustafi, had other ideas ( Don’t want to see that man in the starting eleven again). Overall a point away from home against a big six rival is a good result.… Read more »

Dastardlydick

Agree Auba didn’t look confident and I feared the worst. Never a good idea for the fouled player to take the pen

GunneRon

Auba might have missed the penalty. But how the fuck did the referee and his pathetic assistants allowed that cunt face Vertonghen to encroach deep into the penalty area before Auba took it. Inept refereeing cost us this game. And not for the first time. I can’t wait for VAR next season.

pakgooner

MUSTAFI WHY

eternalflamini

No fan of Mustafi but thought that was soft .

eternalflamini

Am I take it from the down votes that many people thought it was a clear penalty? That sort of barging seems to go on all the time in the box, to my mind anyway.

Wilsheres Middle Finger

I’d love to agree with you but I really really don’t. It was pure carelessness from Mustafi. Clumsily bundled into the back of Kane. School boy stuff. He’s a liability.

eternalflamini

No arguments about Mustafi

David

“Yes Mustafi why?” But Mustafi didn’t lose the Penalty, Auba did and we could have won it.

Bob's Mexican Cousin

Two separate events mate. Yes Auba missed, even Dennis missed at times, but his error is nowhere close to Mustafi’s.

David

I know it was poor from Mustafi but What I’m saying is it wasn’t totally Mustafi’s fault that we didn’t win. Had Auba scored, Mustafi’s error wouldn’t have been so costly. Conceding a Penalty and Losing a penalty especially as a top striker are both not acceptable and in my opinion, I think losing a penalty is worse and that’s not to say Auba isn’t a fantastic player.

Ilari

It was offside 100%

dpro

FIVE of them offside, the replays show….

Michael Bolton Wanderers

When I try to type in mustafi, the autocorrect suggests mistake. Coincidence? I think not

ramgooner

Wow. So much Mustafi hate. Let’s acknowledge that it was a great ball from Eriksen into a delicate area. I have always thought the Mustafi hate was down to his looks because his looks are somewhere between nice guy(Koscielny/Monreal) and bad-ass (Sokratis/Gabriel). I think people hate him because his personality doesn’t fit in their traditional definition of a CB. I like Mustafi. I wouldn’t say he’s the best but, he’s only 26 and has already played in Italy, Spain, England, won the WC and Confederations cup with Germany. Solid player who can improve. Too much negativity around this guy(needs a… Read more »

Axedsoul

I think I’m incapable of processing how we screwed that up.

Ealing

You should have been used to this

Dastardlydick

Er you could say the officials screwed up?

Jack

Mustafi should be fined and then sacked. I know it was offside but what is going through his mind to moronically foul Kane for no reason. Time and time again, the guy is a liability. A draw that feels more like a loss.

loose_cannon

He was really trash for the foul but Aubameyang was trash for his pen as well. And Laca had a horror miss right before coming off. So we shouldn’t just put the blame on him.

Poopiskool

At this point I will be happy if we gave him away from free ?

Billy

Yuppers, no reason even to do it. Kane was probably not going to score from there, the ball was probably over Kane’s head, he missed marking his man behind him whom the ball was going to. Offside is only offside if the ref or linesman calls offside.

Former Top 4 regulars

Mustafi poor. Bring VAR asap. Auba never looked confident. Laca should’ve stayed on his hold up play wouldve help us a lot more.

Twatsloch

Shit penalty by Aubameyang!

That fucking Mustafi!

Anonymarse

We played well, we should have won
We need VAR
Mustafi was a liability (again) and needs to go

At least we robbed them of their ‘undrawables’ record I suppose

Anonymarse

wtf was that from Auba and Laca I suppose would also be a fair question …

David

Exactly the point I’m making. If Laca and Auba are free to miss chances and Penalties without much backlash from fans, then Mustafi is also free to commit blunders. Double standards

Anonymarse

Difference is they normally score those, both are really good strikers.

Mustafi does stupid things like that far too often. You can’t have that from a defender, it costs you games.

David

I agree we need to move Mustafi on but he’s not our ONLY problem. Our multi million pound strikers should take their chances more often, Like scoring a Penalty in the 90th minute of an important derby

Anonymarse

I’m a lot happier with Laca and Auba as strikers than mustafi as a defender. They’ve both missed a few sitters but I wouldn’t swap them. They’re both among the best strikers in the league.

Kos and Sokratis are reliable defenders. Mustafi is not.

eternalflamini

On the positive side, we have improved amazingly away from home and need not fear any trip. I’m the down side though… Anthony Taylor… Mustafi… Auba… **sobs**

Tommy Gunner

Shkodran Mustafi, get out of our club.

I am literally fed up with your face.

Twatsloch

I’ve had enough of him as well.

Daz

We look so much more comfortable with Kos and Papa at CB, and with Bellerin at right back there is really no place for that guy!

B Hash

why is Mustafi still an Arsenal player?

Twatsloch

Hopefully it’s because the transfer window is closed. If any player needs to be moved on this summer it’s him.

yen

Very proud of the manager & the team today. We arrived with a clear game plan and the players followed it brilliantly. First half was the best from the defensive point of view I’ve seen us play in a long time.

Unfortunately, this all will be widely overlooked because the debate is gonna be all about the refs & Mustafi. Would take a point beforehand, now feeling gutted.

eternalflamini

The big positive take away is the great progress we have made away from home. Hope it gives the players some self belief and some belief in the manager’s methods.

Axedsoul

The positive signs were ubiquitous but we seem to be our own worst enemy. Everything would be going perfectly fine and then out of nowhere we’d end up choking ourselves.
Anyway, let’s focus on the European game now. Win that, ride on a bit of momentum to take on Utd and maybe we’ll get the three points there.
COYG!

AmericanGooner

And I thought John Moss was a bad referee…

Scott P

At least he was bad to both teams unlike Mike Dean, the wanker

Far East Stand

I’ll be so fucking happy when Mustafi is sold.

kentmonkey

One of those rare times selling a player will feel like a new signing

Penfield

Ouch.

Dastardlydick

The hole at right back given Hectors absence is our real problem. We need better back up for him in the next transfer window.

Adrian

If I die by Heart attack then my wife will sue Arsenal Fc

Rob67

Very frustrating. Should have taken three points. Our strikers have been great this season but they miss fired today. Still, points a point.

Crash Fistfight

I’m gonna look on the bright side and say that the fact that I’m furious with that result means that we’ve improved on last season.

Our two strikers basically cost us 2 points today. It was a brilliant performance other than that. And how the fuck was that a red card?!? I’d say we should appeal the decision, but it’s us, so why bother?

NMArsenal

I think we can’t argue much about the red. Foot high and stud showing. At least Torreira was trying to control the ball instead of putting force in the tackle. Hopefully it’s just a one match ban.

The other bad things like bad referee, offside fouls and Mustafi and Auba’s terrible pen are some things we can complain.

Alex

That was a tame penalty. A very tame effort. I always prefer Lacazette. The better player overall

Mustafi is shit…

Paul Roberts

The bragging rights are ours. Enjoy the conversations…:-)

dr Strange

Mustafi can fuck off. How the hell he get’s into the team is beyond comprehension.

facts

Another bright performance undone by shambolic officiating with the bald cunt giving the balding cunt the benefit of the doubt. VAR can’t come soon enough. #InEmeryITrust

Mootilated

Mustafi is so shit. Seriously. Worst defender I have seen playing for Arsenal. He is a disgrace and should never put on the shirt again.

Drew Dewsall

Dude, you have a very short memory if you think Mustafi is the worst defender we’ve ever had.

ramgooner

Too much Mustafi bashing going on. Perhaps Mustafi haters think we should have a squad with Godin, Sergio Ramos, Sokratis and Chiellini. After all it’s our divine right.

atom

feels terrible to draw after a ref screw up, but Emery nailed the tactics & the effort was phenomenal

dr Strange

Mkhi was brilliant.

loose_cannon

A draw that kind of feels like a defeat. Honestly I don’t get why people even talk about Tottenham as a serious team, they’re so average it hurts. Really, really should have won today.

Crash Fistfight

I think it goes to show how good a job Pochettino has done and continues to do with them. I was really happy to hear Clive on the ArsenalVision podcast say that he thinks Tottenham’s technical level is low, as it’s what I’ve thought for a long time. Ask any neutral or Tottenham fan and they’ll tell you how they play such fantastic football and have such great players. When you actually watch them play, you realise they play loads of long balls straight over midfield to “create” a lot of their goals. They just run around a lot, foul… Read more »

loose_cannon

Yeah they’re just very athletic but technically they’re average apart from Eriksen. If you stop him, you stop them.

Tony Adams Nose

I’ll tell you what might stop him, another trophy less season and one of the Spanish giants coming in for him!
I think it might be a mass exodus in the summer for this lot.

Fustboller

Finally, someone else articulates this perfectly — thank you. The puppy-love the media has for Sp*rs is sickening, and this notion that they play good football is hollow to the core — they can barely control a football, most of their team is wildly overrated, and they boast some of the ugliest boys in the game. They are dirty and they cheat at every opportunity, and people love them for it. The only thing you can do is outhustle and outplay them (which isn’t that hard), and beat them, something we should have done today but just didn’t put our… Read more »

goonero

FUCK we should have had the 3 points here. Laca misses two sitters, Auba misses 2 sitters, Leno has a fucking worldie and our other German does his best to piss it all away again. I’m so fucking tired of Mustafi.

goonero

Has to be said, still a good point and an impressive performance which is why we all feel we deserved more from the game, let’s keep it positive and not get carried away with the negatives.

avo84

I predicted mustifi to play right back today in fact I wish all through light night that the boss should play him there. At least he would be far away from our penalty box when he eventually slide someone. At last what do I know….sigh

Forest gooner

This is the 3rd draw against a top 6 sides that has felt like points dropped. Chelsea Man u being the other two. Never was the case in the last couple of years under AW.
I love you Emery.
COYG.

Crash Fistfight

Do you mean Liverpool instead of Chelsea?

forest gooner

yes. thanks.

Dorothy

The truth of this season…Mustafi gonna Mustafi

Christopher Wreh

Fuck Mustafi honestly. Absolutely had enough of him. Get him out of our club.

Never felt confident with the pen though.

Hurts. We were compact, organised and solid all game.

NEVER a red. Never.

Leftie

Well, f*cking f*********ck!..

But we should not overlook the fact that our boys did well today. I’m dissapointed with the result, but proud about the performance. The homeless goblins required luck to get a point.

Canuck Gooner

Hate me if you will, but Rose had that coming. Cheating cunt.

Crash Fistfight

How can anyone hate someone wanting Danny Rose to endure physical (and/or mental) pain?

Glasgow_ Gooner

I also thought that was no accident.

dr Strange

How Rose is on the pitch after the studs in Lenos chest is baffling. He should have seen a straight red for that.

Lion

What makes me mad was
1- I knew auba will the penalty ,at the age of 29 he still looks immature
2-the lines man who watch the offsite
3-the ref who awarded soft penalty to Kane and give straight red card to torreira and yellow card for Danny rose …same incidents
4-above all the match commentator who was so ducking bias ….ehat a cunt

Gunnerthesaurus

I was so happy at first. Then I was so sad. Then I was happy for a minute. Now I’m sad again. S*urs are shit.

Dave

Dissapointing game, we had the game for grabs but yet again awful referees sh*t on us. Should’ve been red for Rose, sh*ts goal should’ve never happen, was clearly offisde…etc

But as much as I would like to blame just the ref…Laca wasted a good chance and Auba missing that penalty was bollocks….

Bright side tho, we didn’t lose, and we play manure at the emirates so, still good chances to beat them

Goonerink

Why was the pen not retaken for encroaching?

Vertongen was the player encroaching AND saved the rebound….
Robbed.

Magneto

It’s a measure of how bad the officiating is that both the linesman and the ref either never saw this, or simply chose to ignore it.

Ramses

I’m surprised no one mentions this. Vertonghen encroaches then prevents Auba scoring with the rebound. Penalty should’ve been retaken.

We were robbed and we robbed ourselves.

But why is Mustafi even an Arsenal player?

Hantal

It’s really rare that encroaching is called

Tanned arse

It doesn’t get called when it’s doesn’t impact on the result of the penalty. If he doesn’t encroach (and in a massive and obvious way) then it’s an absolute tap in. Regardless of the terrible pen, it’s still going to be a goal and the officiating there is as bad as the offside not given. 2 instances where the officials are in place and have one thing to look at when the ball is struck. Sunday morning officials would be expected to call those most simple offences

Goonerink

Surely the rule is there for instances exactly like this

Old Goat

It’s rare that it’s called but it’s not usually that blatant. He was a good five yards in by the time the ball was kicked.

Tim Miller

Horrible decision on their penalty (the offside, I mean), and the Torreira red was way too harsh. By that standard a few of their players should have been sent off, too.
An OK result for us, but a better result for them I’m afraid.

Dastardlydick

Definitely thought Rose should’ve been shown a straight red for that boot into Leno’s chest but somehow those aren’t given when you’re in an attacking position.

Fatgooner

We blew it.

Come May, if we don’t make top four then it’ll be because of today.

We were the better side and should have won. But Mustafi, a useless lino and two horrible misses from Laca and Auba have cost us dear.

This was arguably our best away performance of the season: that’s what’s so frustrating. Yet again we are our own worst enemy.

The real winners today are man united.

Crash Fistfight

Well, hopefully this is what drags Tottenham out of the top 4 as well. How the fuck they’d pay for the new £1billion toilet without CL money is anyone’s guess.

Paul Roberts

“Come May, if we don’t make top four then it’ll be because of today.”
Fats, I thought you said we had no chance of a top four finish?? Make your mind up Pal!

bobbyp

Although I would’ve taken a draw before the match, I am really annoyed that the pen was missed. It was so poor. I like Auba as a player and he’s been excellent for us, but would rather someone else is on penalty duty in future as I think his are too tame. I was hoping he would take it when it was given.

bobbyp

Meant to say hoping he wouldn’t take it.

Stephen

I don’t care that Kane scores and Auba didn’t. Mustafi cost us and should be crucified. If we’re short at RB bring up a 16 year old academy player or a scarecrow. Anything. He shouldnt have started a single game for us this year but has cost us again. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a single player directly responsible for so many points lost. Amateur level madness again from him. Everyone else was heroic. Especially Sokratis and Leno with Mhiki and Iwobi playing much better than I could’ve hoped. United game now decides everything, assuming they beat Southampton. If… Read more »

George

Laca and Auba don’t half miss a load of sitters.. Come on lads!

Lee

Don’t think either penalties should have been given and never a red card. Should have been a really dull 1-0 Arsenal win 🙁

Old Bloke.

Very frustrating. The game was there for the taking against a lackluster Spurz but we always needed the second goal and missed two chances to get it. Feel it was two points lost rather than one gained. Great defensive display other than Mustafi who is always going to make mistakes and wasn’t great going forward. Gutted that Torriera will miss the next three games for a harsh straight red. The officials weren’t good today.

Wilsheres Middle Finger

All that excellent defensive work, only for Mustafi to have his usual brain fart and gift them a goal. He’s bad enough in his natural position, let alone played at RB. How many more points is going to be allowed to cost us? It’s an asbolute joke.

Glasgow_Gooner

Look at the league table and scream !!

Goonerrific

Fair play whoever wrote this, it’s the most neutral analysis of the game I’ve seen.

Jean Ralphio

We were well organised and defended well and should have won. Overall we did well. Some really good performances out there. If we beat Man United, we have a good chance of making the top four which is our only goal this season. I hope Torreira’s red card is rescinded. Any chance this will happen?

Hantal

Unlikely, it was marginal but his feet were up

Gunnerthesaurus

I feel sorry for us cuz we should’ve won.

I feel sorry for S*urs fans cuz they’re S*urs fans.

Hi-brid

Feel gutted, but it was a good performance. Aubamayang never looked confident. Terrible officiating. Kane offside for their penalty. Ours was never a penalty. Ridiculous decision for the red card. It’s hard right now, but let’s take the positives.

Danny

Sokratis, Mkhi, Iwobi, Leno and probably more take a bow. The overall team performance was incredible, I don’t know how the players feel about Mustafi right now, because he let them down badly, in a way that he does so often.
But I’d love to tell all (-1) the Arsenal team how well they did today, keep playing like that and the results will come! I hope they take confidence from this performance.

Chippy87

I’d have played Jenkinson today ahead of Mustafi.

Was worried when I saw him in the team. I can also understand why Emery played him, but the man is such a total liability.

His time here is nearly up now anyways I suppose.

kaius

Don’t even know what to say. Our attitude was sensational. Whole team bought into the coach’s plan and knew what they had to do. Incredible physical commitment.

The silver lining is taking 4 points out of 6 from this season. Would have been so satisfying to beat the goblins and their Poundshop Sam Allardyce coach with his tired hoof-and-chase tactics.
