In the latest team news update, Arsenal appear only to have one injury issue – beyond the long-termers – ahead of tomorrow night’s Europa League clash with Napoli.
On-loan Denis Suarez has not made the trip, with the medical update revealing the midfielder has a groin strain.
It ties in with reports this week which outlined the problems the Barcelona man has had in recent weeks, with his agent admitting things have not gone well for him since his arrival in North London in January.
There were some mild doubts about Lucas Torreira after he was taken off against Watford at half-time on Monday night, but whatever little pain he was feeling isn’t sufficient to rule him out of tomorrow’s game.
Beyond that we seem to have a clean bill of health aside from Danny Welbeck, Rob Holding and Hector Bellerin who all remain sidelined.
Sokratis is available for the Europa League but will serve the second of his two game suspension when we face Crystal Palace on Sunday.
Fucking HUGE game. Huge. If we can just score a goal we’ll be laughing.
Pleased we’re pretty much at full strength though, especially the centre halves
Come on Arsenal
Yes, that’s the best case scenario. Unfortunately, the evidence of our away performances against Bate and Rennes suggests otherwise, I think. Napoli is a better side at home than either of them are – and we still conceded four times across those two away games. If we score first, then that’s a huge plus of course as you say. But if they do, and even worse fairly early on, then we’re probably in trouble. Anyway, let’s hope we can, at last, get our defensive act together in Europe and get through.
Holy shit! Who’s going to be Elneny’s travel buddy?
Deni…s who again?
Deni, oh with your eyes so blue
Deni Deni, I’ve got a crush on you
Deni Deni, I’m so in love with you
Denis Sanogo!!
God damn it! How can we all carry on after this devastating news?!?!
In all honesty I had forgotten we even had him in our books!
The Sua-ga continues ?
A more accurate headline for the article would be: INJURY UPDATE: SUAREZ RULED OUT (let’s not qualify it by mentioning the Europa League).
Surely the joke would be to remove the word ‘injury’?
True, but it’s no joke really. It seems that since January he’s been almost always unfit or injured … just lucky we didn’t buy him.
Not lucky. Good negotiation.
Well, Barca were pushing hard for an £18 million transfer in the Summer, and that certainly wasn’t ruled out by Arsenal at the time (and still hasn’t been, although it’s highly unlikely now of course). Our record in transfers hasn’t really been that great in the past few years so I don’t think we can take anything for granted.
What they were pushing for was a mandatory transfer after the loan & we didn’t back down. So as I said not lucky; good negotiation. No need for further debate !
Suarez is this season’s Kim Källström. We might as well send him back home now. A complete waste of time. I had a thoroughly enjoyable night last night watching Manure humiliated by Messi and co. Hopefully this will affect their Premier League form. And Ajax well deserved their win against Pretty-Boy and his new friends. It’s amazing how “financial doping” hasn’t prevented teams like Ajax, Spuds and Liverpool from going deep into the Champions’ League. I really hope Emery shows some cojones and picks an attacking side in Italy tomorrow: trying to defend a 2-0 lead for 90 minutes is… Read more »
Liverpool have spent significantly more than Ajax and the spuds. Wouldn’t put them in that bracket
Liverpool’s net spend isn’t that great. They made a huge amount on Coutinho and reinvested it well. Meanwhile under you-know-who we allowed our most prized assets to walk away from the club for peanuts or nothing. Our financial management was scandalous.
I agree 100%. The money thrown away by the extremely poor management of contracts which had less than a couple of years to run has cost the club many £ millions in “lost” transfer fees. Hopefully, the new management team look as though they won’t make the same catastrophic errors that the previous team did (no names, no pack drill but there was one person clearly in overall charge – or perhaps that was only when things were going well?), so good news there.
The daily blog said he hopes Man City beat Spurs tonight; but isn’t it better for Arsenal if Spurs progress tonight; giving them an extra 2 games and needing to rotate in their league fixtures. But then Ajax would await in the semis, it may be a little too close for comfort to risk Spurs getting to the final.
Man City to humiliate Spurs, which badly demoralises them for the upcoming league fixture (where they pick up a red card or two).
1-0 so extra time. Then concede 3 late goals, Red card, injuries and a ridiculous own goal sees exhaustion finally breaks their little spursy hearts…
Statistically, our fate is now in our hands as far as a top four place is concerned. If we don’t get it, it’s down to us – we’ll have cocked it up, nobody else. Whether, on recent evidence, the players are up to the challenge (particularly in away games) is at best uncertain but if they can’t do it now, when will they?
A top four finish is in our hands now. If we don’t get it, it’s down to us. If the players can’t do it now, in this crucial run-in, when will they?
We’re fucked
I heard he was sent to Italy to learn the lingo in preparation for the Suarez/Ramsey transfer deception plan. 😉
Panic Loan era.
Mslintat and Raul overloaded the wage bill with old players (See Mhkitaryan and Lichsteiner)
Some useless dead wood also unmoveable bc of quality or lack thereof – Elneny and Jenkinson.
Suarez has not done enough to assert his personality given limited showing. Its difficult since he does not have luxury of time to adapt into a very difficult league and he looks shy on confidence.
Mhkitaryan is not old.
Totally forgot about Suarez, what a useless signing.
