Note: I was going to add a mailbag portion with questions from twitter to this post but once I got to this part after doing the post was already getting pretty long. I decided that I will split that off into its own separate post. If you have any stats related questions that you would like answered leave them in the comments and I will do my best to answer as many of those as I can in addition to the questions from twitter. Look for that later this week.

Thanks Scott, interesting as always. Keep up the good work!
Have a relaxing summer break.
60 % of the time Mustafi is shit all the time.
You’re wrong. Most of the time he is a competent defender but sadly is prone to the most appalling errors.
It’s supposed to be wrong. It’s from a movie. (The first part)
Do you have any info on overall errors leading to goals?
Also since he’s a fairly deserved whipping boy, Mustafi mistakes (not just error, but failing to track a defender, not jumping, busy complaining or lying on the ground) leading to goals?
Thanks Scott, always an interesting read. It would be worth looking at a break down of some of the key stats split by home and away. Also maybe some key partnerships between players (bellerin + mustafi, lacca Aube), and performance before and after loss of hector or return of kos
How the fuck is Cech allowed to take a job at chavski next season before we play them in a cup final which he will probably play in ??? He simply must not play. Always had my suspicions about him. Lack of penalty saves etc
Wow ok let him play and lets see how that turns out

I’ll grab my coat now. No downvotes from me. In fact I upvoted your latest comment
Any other job and he’s on garden leave to be fair
Thanks Scott. I don’t suppose you have any data on how Auba’s goals per game ratio since he joined us compares to Thierry Henry’s or Ian Wright’s (or Cliff Bastin’s ?) at the start of their Arsenal careers? Cheers.
Hi Scott, any chance you’d be able to look at the type of shot chance we created as the season progressed? I have a feeling that a combination of Bellerin’s injury and teams sussing out the Kolasinac cut back was why we struggled later in the season so we stopped creating this kind of chance, but it would be good to see if the stats back this up/disprove it
thanks for the info scott! i had written a comment but i misclicked and lost it, so here’s a short and less polite version of it: would like to know the percentage of successful cutback passes or crosses inside the area made by kolasinac; the amount of headed shots resulting from a cross from open play; the amount of big chances missed by auba and laca in comparison with other strikers. it would be interesting to see you using expected goals and/or a comparison with last season’s data to reflect on the progress made during this campaign sorry for the… Read more »
Thanks, Scott!
If we are 9th in Big Chances created and 7th in most Big Chances allowed (I’m assuming that means 13 teams defended better by allowing fewer big chances?) – isn’t it remarkable we finished 5th?
i.e., does that mean we finished much higher than expected?
Can you also please share our Xg stats please?
Follow-up:
Would be great to see where we rank on net Big Chances and net Xg – would expect that to track closer to our league position.
Just to add to that, something compiling all the results of the simulations of the game results, if that’s possible, the simulations where you look at the % chance that each team scored x number of goals, and simulated match outcomes: win, draw, loss.
Thanks.
This is the best statistical description of Mesut I have ever seen. He is the most creative player in the team and also the worst tackler in the side. He has always been that, and will always be that. Good creatively and bad at tackling. Tactically, he will do well when he is in a side that needs creativity and has a defensive foundation that requires him to defend by closing down passing lanes instead of tackling. We are in need of creativity in the middle, but we don’t play through the middle. We run and tackle a lot, but… Read more »
Good job Scott! I’m personally interested in how many goals Auba would have scored if he’d converted all his BIG misses. Also compare his big chance conversion rate with the top goalscorers in EPL. Same for Lacazette.
