Arsenal Women maintained their perfect start to the season with an accomplished 4-0 victory over Brighton & Hove Albion at Meadow Park on Sunday. Tim Stillman caught up with Vivianne Miedema post match exclusively for Arseblog News.
On how she is feeling physically after the World Cup…
I’m still not quite 100% and we are playing a lot of games, we had two Champions League games in the schedule as well this month, so we’ve not really had any time to rest and now we go away with our international teams. But I hope those games can get me a bit closer to full fitness.
On the performance against a well-organised Brighton…
We played very well today, we created lots of chances and Brighton were very defensive and didn’t really try to attack us. But we had a really good team performance today and I think we are improving with every game.
On her partnership with Kim Little…
I think all of the attacking players have been really good this season. Joe wants us to play forwards and Joe wants us to dictate the game to teams and I think part of my quality is dropping in away from the frontline sometimes and allowing some of those players to run in behind and that’s what happened again today, which is great for the team.

On completing a lovely one-touch move for the second goal…
This is exactly how we want to play football and we scored four good goals today, but that one was very special. That’s the kind of move we practice and it’s nice to be able to contribute to a goal like that, that’s the sort of move we all really enjoy.
On not being included in the FIFPRO World XI at the FIFA ‘Best’ Awards…
I think we all know it’s all about popularity and I don’t post much on instagram or twitter, so that’s probably what went wrong. I don’t really care about individual awards to be honest, but I think it’s a joke.
She really say that about the awards? Respect.
I’ve always thought that myself.
Yup. Word for word. I’ll drop that section into the podcast going out next week.
Ahahahaahhaahaha
Absolute legend.
“I don’t really give a shit about individual awards to be honest, but I think it’s a joke.”
Wow.. Respect for those words!
You tell em Viv, its actually a joke
Seriously, it should be considered illegal having the trio of Jordan Nobbs, Kim Little and Van Dan Donk all playing behind Viv.
With the ability to bring on Mead and Roord!
ok, her words on individual awards made me fall in love with her even harder! lovely lady, you tell ’em
What a wholesome person!
Great all round performance from the whole team including the subs used or not. To see Leah, Katie & Pauline spending time in the pouring rain with the fans after the game was heartwarming. Viv’s comment about individual awards were not unexpected. What a fantastic team player she is.
Viv is always so humble. She is the only one that doesn’t know how good she really is!
Having said that I think she is still recovering from the World Cup. Seems to be at 7 or 8 tenths at the moment. Feeling sorry for the defenses that come up against her when she has her full mojo back!
Another Gunners professional performance under the belt without taxing themselves too much. Back to where they belong at the top of WSL with the most goals scored.
The Arsenal Ladies are just too damn good with this genius, prodigy and talent up front. May she keep on banging them goals and turning them heads with her skill. God bless them all
I love Viv since here days at Bayern Munich as she is a wonderful player, what a striker! And her words about personal awards are showing that she has a wonderful character, too. So great to have Viv in our team!
Certainly a difference to Viv this season, a lot of the time she does not look happy at all, and, today against Brighton having a go at team mates, something I’ve not heard her do before. I hope it’s just frustration at her own fitness levels and not getting fed up with the team.
Did the ?hit the fans?
Ha! See what you did there! Very droll.
