There are many talented players in Arsenal’s U18 squad but there is certainly an argument to suggest that Marcelo Flores is the standout prospect, at least at present.
The 16-year-old has enjoyed an excellent start to the season and scored a brace yesterday as the U18s beat Crystal Palace 3-2 in an entertaining encounter.
Flores relishes playing as an attacking midfielder, but he has been especially influential out wide in the early stages of the campaign, demonstrating that he can make an impact when deployed on either flank.
Possessing excellent close control as well as being strong physically, Flores has tormented opponents at youth level since joining Arsenal as a schoolboy from Ipswich Town.
The Mexico youth international has already trained with the Arsenal first-team and further callups for training sessions surely won’t be far away if he continues to make such an impact.
Arsenal are in need of a wide option on the right flank at U23 level and it is possible that Flores could step up to the second-string as the campaign progresses.
Flores has also demonstrated that he can combine effectively with Omari Hutchinson, who is usually used in the number ten position. The pair have linked up very well, with their slick passing proving difficult to deal with.

Sounds great, nice to have young talent coming through
The new Carlos Vela…
I hope he isn’t because Carlos rejects Mexico every time they call him . And he didn’t do very good at Arsenal at that age. He was a late bloomer
I absolutely adore Vela. Wish he could have been an Arsenal legend. Such talent. Still think we missed an opportunity with him…
I still have day dreams about his chip goals.. it felt like 80% of his goals with us was chips hahaha… and never forget that Wenger called him one of the best finnisher he’s seen
Good to know.
