Arsene Wenger has some injury worries ahead of the new season with players heading away, or not as it turns out, on international duty.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain was withdrawn from the England squad this morning having suffered an ankle problem during yesteday’s 4-0 win over FC Koln. He received treatment during the first half and clearly the issue is bad enough to preclude him for playing for England, but hopefully it’s precautionary more than anything else.
Meanwhile, new France boss Didier Deschamps has cast doubt over Laurent Koscielny’s involvement in Wednesday’s friendly against Uruguay as the defender arrives as Clairefontaine with a calf problem. France Football quote Deschamps saying, “He will have a test in the afternoon but at the moment the injury will compromise his participation in the game”.
Update: Koscielny has been officially withdrawn from the France squad.
With Mikel Arteta sitting out the FC Koln game due to a knock he picked up in training, the Arsenal manager will be biting his nails this week hoping nobody else finds their way onto the sick list.
With Jack Wilshere, Emmanuel Frimpong and Bacary Sagna all ruled out of the start of the season, and beyond, Wenger can’t afford to see too many of options sidelined.
We should get full clarification of the injury situation later in the week.

Very true, though one position I find a tad worrying is RB. Sagna is out (until September, apparently), so we’ll be relying on Jenkinson or Coquelin. Based on pre-season, I’d say it’s more likely Jenkinson, though I’d prefer the Coq. Don’t get me wrong. I love Jenkinson, he will always give 100%, but at this point in his development, I’d rather he wasn’t the immediate contingency plan in the absence of Sagna. Well we can’t expect no injuries but how great is it that we have suitable replacements for our injured lot. The only concern for me is at fullback but everywhere else looks pretty good
I know this sounds crazy…but I feel like with this years squad, we might actually be able to cope well with a few injuries.
I think Arsenal have the most depth in midield across the entire league. Arteta, Song, Cazorla, Diaby, Wilshere, Coquelin, Rosicky, Ox (if deployed there), Ramsey…that’s a lot of mixing and matching. Compared to others, I like that…no over reliance on any player!
Yeah. And many of those players can play out wide if needed. Good deal. I like our depth!

Could RVP and/or Arsenal as that he not be played in the friendly in order to avoid injury that would definitely ruin any transfers? I mean, RVP has stated he wants a transfer and surely with his injury record it’s gotta be in his mind. I’d think he’d ask to not be played much if at all knowing the possible outcome.
