Welcome to a brand new episode of the Arsenal Women Arsecast, the number one podcast about Arsenal Women.
Tim Stillman and Alex Ibaceta get together to answer listener questions from Twitter, including, whether teams are getting a little wiser to Jonas Eidevall’s Arsenal now, whether January reinforcements are needed, views on the left-sided combination of Catley and McCabe, whether the FA’s target to have a 6k attendance average in the WSL by 2024 is achievable and whether it’s time for segregated away ends in women’s football to help build atmosphere at games. This and loads more in the November mailbag edition of the Arsenal Women Arsecast.
You can follow Tim on Twitter @Stillberto : Alex @AlexIbaceta23
If you are a regular listener via iTunes, if you would be so kind as to leave a review/rating that would be greatly appreciated.
I always love listening to the Arsenal women podcast with Tim and Alex each month. There are interesting discussions about players, teams and different topics within the game which are so important.
Keep up the great work guys and looking forward to the Cup final preview next week.
late 80s, early 90s, my primary school used to have players from our local team (mens though) come and do PE with us, because the manager at the time’s kids went to the school at the time. This was how I got into football as a kid, did summer time courses etc too. By the time i went to all girls high school, i was stopped from playing, even at lunch time but that’s a different story…… but mostly just a comment to say yeah! absolutely great idea to get players out to schools in the area to get interest… Read more »
How sad for you, Dan! I hope today’s version of Dan would get more opportunities at her school.
But yeah, reaching out to the local community is vital.
when skeptics head towards the “well the ban was lifted 50 years ago, get over it” – its clear that even 20 years after the ban was lifted, the effects were still happening at my school. My friend, in another part of the country, her and her friends were stopped from playing on the team because parents from the opposition teams made a petition about it! (weird really, if they thought girls were rubbish, surely they’d want to them to play so they could beat them, and if they don’t want them to play, surely that meant they were good… Read more »
Now that the FA have taken the TV dollars, they and the clubs have to come up with more than just targets to increase gates. Come Christmas only ONE home game will have been been played at Meadow Park on a Sunday afternoon with a 2pm KO…the time when the traditional AWFC support …..families with kids…..can get to the games. With TV dictating Sunday evening KO’s the gates will go down rather than up.
Another corker – good point about scheduling of kick-offs because I feel that the fanbase could be different to that of men’s football – the growth might come from getting in more women and kids, which has big implications for match times.
The fanbase is different. No two ways about it!
As I have said before the authorities want to grab the money, to get the money they have to bend over backwards for the TV companies, and with all the games on TV and matches being played at inconvenient times for family attendance crowds will not increase.
You don’t need to be a rocket scientist!
Such an informative podcast, great comment about Maritz.
Would be interested in a report regarding the player contracts.
