Arsenal centre-half Viki Schnaderbeck has joined Tottenham Hotspur on loan. The Austrian signed for the Gunners in the summer of 2018 from Bayern Munich alongside Leonie Maier.
Schnaderbeck’s first season at the club, in which Arsenal won the WSL title, was marred by a bad knee injury picked up in the final pre-season friendly of summer 2018.
Schnaderbeck became a high level squad player in the 2019-20 season and at the beginning of the 2020-21 season, usually playing as a centre-half but sometimes filling in at left-back too.
Viki picked up another bad knee injury during a game against Manchester United in November 2020 which kept her out for ten months. She has only started one game this season, a Conti Cup match against Manchester United last week.
The club have signed Brazil international centre-half Rafaelle Souza and added Schnaderbeck’s international teammate Laura Wienroither at full-back during the January window. With Leah Williamson, Lotte Wubben-Moy, Simone Boye and Jen Beattie at the club and Anna Patten out on loan, Schnaderbeck’s opportunities are likely to be limited. Her contract was due to expire at the end of this season.
Es tut mir echt leid, Viki
Best of luck to Viki ❤️ Hoping her time there works out better than the injury-ridden Arsenal spell.
Sounds like we did the honourable thing letting her leave, but I still hate seeing anyone Arsenal related at Sp*rs
First she struggles with injuries, then she ends up at spuds – that sucks!!!
I always had a soft spot for Viki as I believe she is a much better player than she was able to show us with the constant injuries.
That’s that then as far as her Gunners career goes but good luck to her and I hope that she does not end up in the same situation as a promising German signing that couldn’t ultimately deliver because of consistent knee problems.
