Alex Lacazette praised the way Arsenal ground out three points at Wolves as the Gunners held on for a 1-0 win despite Gabriel Martinelli being sent off in the second half.
Centre-back Gabriel scored the only goal of the game in the first half and then played a vital role in helping the defence to another clean sheet.
Here’s what the club captain had to say when he faced the BT Sport cameras…
On the celebrations at full time…
It means a lot for us because we really wanted to win this game. We were a bit disappointed after Burnley. We used the break to work a lot, we went on the training camp all together to work and I think we showed today a lot of good things, a lot of positive things for the rest of the season.
On the Gabriel taking tips from the strikers…
No, we don’t really work on this [Gabriel’s scoring] but we know set pieces are important, we work a lot on this. I’m happy Gabi could score today.
On his role in the goal…
Yeah, I wanted to be first on the ball. I think I was or maybe the keeper kick it on me, I don’t know. At the end, we scored, so it’s a good thing.
On being in deep conversation with Arteta after his substitution…
It was just something tactics [related], nothing crazy.
On not enjoying the last 20 minutes from the bench…
It’s always stressful to see this kind of games, more because we were 10 against 11 but it’s a part of football. I’m proud of my team because we handled it well, we were strong. Well done everyone.
On showing resilience…
I’m really proud, like I said, because it’s not easy. They have good quality to cross, some good players in the box as well, I’m proud of them because defensively we were strong and everyone at the back did their job.
“My Team” – Lacazette
“The team” – Aubameyang
Uncalled for
That’s some pathetic nit-picking, lol.
Read the room.
1-0 to The Arsenal.
Good vibes only.
Who wants a player who plays for the badge and takes accountability and ownership? That sounds horrible. We certainly don’t want players with that mindset….
No need for this.
We’ll miss him when he leaves. “Miss” being the operative word.
I said to my buddy who was asking about our next striker – I hope he’s just like Laca. But scores.
Two very good chances. Both should have been buried, especially the one in the second half.
But I think he had another really good game. Weird.
Feels like he going through a patch where things are not going for him in front of goal. You can’t really fault his effort. I’m keeping fingers crossed that at some point one chance will go in and the goals will start flowing… Kinda needs to happen soon though!
“Kinda needs to happen soon though”
Been waiting for that for nearly 5 years now, don’t think they are coming. He just doesn’t have that many goals in him. Wish Laca and Auba were one players..
he was the fans favourite player of the year
I thought it was funny
Score a goal please
Always liked Lacazette as a person. Hope he does really well for Lyon against Dijon and St Etienne next season.
Great team performance but it’s so hard to see where our goals come from these remaining games
Really? That was the second best defence in the league.
We certainly haven’t seen the last 1-0 to the Arsenal this season.
We’re proud too, Captain
Not a threat in the air…we need a focal point in attack …a few headed goals here and thereand being more clinical in the box…those 5-10 extra goals would be CL qualification insurance…..scores an 8 for effort every game though…just that you can’t give what you don’t have
Giroud will fit current set up. Unfortunately he is not “young”.
Well spoken. Now get us some goals, captain
When laca went off who took the armband?
Holding
Solid choice
And he played excellent
Laca needs to step up. He’s still only 30 and shouldnt be past his best just yet. A player of his quality shouldnt be missing those chances. Yes we need a new striker. But we should also expect alot more from the current ones. Also why not put on Pepe instead of Nketiah? I can literally not think of one single thing Nketiah is better at.
Agreed. Pepe takes the ball past a player or two or buys a foul to run the clock down. Nketiah just runs a bit.
Could not agree more. I guess in context of last nights game he just wanted nketia chasing and closing down. It worked last night which was fantastic but I prefer being a threat to them and not just camping in our half like some fat Sam or pulis team. Pepe would have been a threat, they would have been delighted nketconing on.
Pepe rarely puts a shift in on running around for defence though. Laca works hard, Auba left but still put in effort on the pitch even though he was old and couldn’t score this season. Nketiah is a decent presser Pepe holds the ball for a long time when not in the final third, and we were never in the final third. I feel like putting pepe on would end up with him losing the ball trying to dribble in our half. Plus would he be up to doing extra defensive effort we’d need with 10 men? At least he… Read more »
I keep hearing his movement is poor and that’s why. Eddie’s is good but he can’t put the ball in the net.
If Eddie doesn’t put the ball in the net could you tell us what he’s good at. ?
Persuading the manager he should play.
He’s better at playing 9…
On the goal, I thought if Gabriel had not scored, we deserved a penalty for Sar’s going into Laca without touching the ball. Not saying we would have gotten it (we’ve all seen keepers punching someone in the head when they missed the ball and nothing given).
Yeah it actually his Team.. Nice one everyone, spirited and committed performance. 3 big points. Safe trip back home. Brentford we waiting for yah
He’s our player and our captain, he may not be at the level we all wish for but he gives everything for the club. Some of the comments on here about him are just out of order. If you’re a fan of our beloved club then just support the guy for the next few months.
Don’t hate the player. He is what he is.
Utd drew.
Sp*rs lost.
And who isnt what he is?
No-one.
Lots of other people grasped the point I was making so it’s all good.
He does have a “dad” vibe around all these youngsters, doesn’t he? 🙂
Not that there’s anything wrong with that (as they would say in the Seinfeld universe).
You just feel Martinelli has learned a huge lesson today.
I don’t see him ever getting a red card in an Arsenal shirt again.
The first yellow was rather daft and unnecessary, although some referees might have just have seen is as the over-exuberance of a 20 year old and overlook it.
A yellow card for the push on Semedo would have sufficed.
“On the Gabriel taking tips from the strikers”…
“No. We need to take tips from Gabi”
Unlike our strikers, Gabriel hit the goal.
Never mind all that. Try sticking the ball in the back of the net.
