Arsenal v Spurs Women postponed

Arsenal Women’s North London derby against Tottenham, scheduled to be played at Emirates Stadium on Saturday afternoon, has been postponed due to a number of covid cases within the Tottenham camp.

Spurs’ game away at Chelsea on Wednesday evening was called off two hours before kickoff for the same reason, which immediately called this game into question.

Ticket sales were very healthy for this game and that is bound to take a hit now with the game to be rearranged for a midweek yet to be confirmed.

If Arsenal advance to the semi-finals of the Champions League, it will be tough to fit this fixture in. The semi-finals are to be played over the weekends of 23/24 April and 30 April/1 May, meaning the Gunners WSL games away at Everton and at home to Aston Villa will need to be rearranged for the proceeding midweeks.

In a statement on Arsenal.com, the club said, “The decision to postpone was taken by the FA on Friday following an application from Tottenham Hotspur. A revised date for the fixture will be announced in due course – all tickets will remain valid for the rearranged fixture, but the club will refund any ticket holders who are unable to attend on the revised date.”

It is the third WSL fixture this season that has been postponed at the request of Arsenal’s opponents.

It may appear frustrating at first but I think this has done us a favour.
I’d rather squeeze Spuds at home in between WSL games vs Everton or Villa than play it a few days before the trip to Wolfsburg with a CL match which is 1-1 at half time!

Yeah, in terms of the CL second leg this could well turn out to be a blessing in disguise. A likely intense and physical must-win derby was probably not going to be ideal preparation for that match, so the team can just focus on Wolfsburg now and worry about the league later.

Xuan

May indeed help considering that Wolfsburg play Frankfurt which is fighting for 3rd alongside Hoffenheim and Potsdam..

Shall we go mental and start crying to all the media outlets about how unfair this is and that they should be made to fulfill fixtures regardless of covid?

Deano

Yeah I was wondering what hair piece Conte was thinking after his sad rant last week.

It’s also important to remind the women that they must not celebrate winning.

Which NL Derby gets rescheduled first? The Women or Men’s….?

Antonio Conte was unavailable for comment.

Difficult to see what is for the best. On the basis of clique, one game at a time, the additional rest is welcome.
In the longer term, particularly if we win next Thursday, the schedule begins to look a bit overwhelming.
Also, the likelihood of Chelski taking top spot tomorrow is irksome to say the least.

Matt

I’d rather not see Chelsea topping the table either, but it might not be such a bad thing. It really will be their title to lose then and psychologically that could help Arsenal, as I think there’s more pressure being the frontrunner. Obviously you’d expect a team of Chelsea’s quality to handle that, but if Arsenal can win their games and stay with them a little slip-up is possible (as we’ve seen with Man City and Liverpool in the Premier League).

Let’s hope Leicester are as pathetic next week when we play them.
I know Chelsea are quite good but they met no resistance at all. 4-0 in the first 11 minutes and it was game over!
