Ian Wright has been inducted into the Premier League’s ‘Hall of Fame’ following a public vote presided over by the Premier League Award panel.
Wrighty is the fourth Gunner to earn the accolade, following in the footsteps of Patrick Vieira, Thierry Henry and Dennis Bergkamp.
Signed by George Graham in 1991, Wrighty became an instant favourite at Highbury going on to break Cliff Bastin’s record to become our leading scorer of all time, a feat only bettered by Thierry Henry.

His goals came in all shapes and sizes, from delicate dinks and lobs to piledrives, toe-pokes, headers and everything in between. He was a one-man goal machine and the driving force behind domestic and European cup successes during the 90s.
In total, he scored 185 goals for the Gunners in 288 appearances before joining West Ham United with a domestic Double to his name. His tally in the Premier League reads 113 goals in 213 appearances.
Wrighty’s hugely deserved induction to the Hall of Fame comes alongside Sergio Aguero, Vincent Kompany, Didier Drogba, Paul Scholes and, somewhat ironically, Peter Schmeichel – the man with whom he had a long-running feud during the 90s.

Back when we signed him it was a record transfer for Arsenal and he was one of the hottest names in the league. Nowadays you pay a ridiculous premium and end up with an Andy Carroll on the books.

Very happy for Ian. I am not a fan of these things though to be honest. At the moment they look fun and nice with club legends from winning years. Wait until we get to the level where a player like Alexis Sanchez won’t get a sniff but people like Robbie Savage, Wes Brown or Milner get the nod then fans will start debating the stupidity of such things. Well deserved. I can’t remember which commentator said “he’s sharp enough to cut himself” during a game but that was my favourite quote. He had a great many games like that
