Kim Little joins OL Reign on loan for the summer

Arsenal captain Kim Little will join NWSL side OL Reign on loan for the summer months. The Gunners skipper played for Reign in their former guise, Seattle Reign, between 2014 and 2016.

Little retired from international football last summer and won’t be playing at this summer’s European Championships with Scotland, who did not qualify. So she has taken the decision to spend two months on loan in Seattle.

My understanding is that she will return to Arsenal for the first day of pre-season training in August. She has elected to do this to stay in peak physical condition given the four month gap between the last WSL season ending in early May and the new one beginning in September.

An Arsenal statement read, “We can confirm that we have reached an agreement for Kim Little to join National Women’s Soccer League side OL Reign on a short-term loan deal this summer. Kim will join OL Reign on 1 June and return to Arsenal ahead of the start of pre-season on 15 August.”

Greg in Seattle

Obvs as a Seattlite this is incredible to hear. Reign has been a prestige women’s club over here with many great players but Kim Little is the most impressive, complete, next-level player we’ve ever had IMO. This is a thrill.

Greg, you are borrowing our flawless Captain & truly a sensational “Rolls Royce” of a player, who apparently outshone all the major U.S. stars during her first stint with the Reign – so enjoy and treasure her superior skills and abilities, which your club will surely hugely
benefit from during the short loan period in Seattle 🙂

Jacques

Would have preferred her to rest and conserve energy for next season, but if there is anyone that can pull off the fitness it is Kim! At least we have depth in midfield

Interesting from the perspective of this new trend for older athletes to play through their 30s. Ronaldo seems to spend more time in the gym than anyone to stay in shape at 37 so I wonder if this loan makes it easier for Kim to do the necessary fitness work throughout the summer.

We adore Kimmy in Seattle and we are THRILLED. TO. BITS. I didn’t think I’d ever get to see her play with Fishlock again… I will treasure the next two months. A wonderful shock to receive at halftime during today’s match – this was not on my radar! So happy right now.

You’re borrowing the best player in the world IMO, so treasure & enjoy her, and please ensure she returns to Arsenal safe, sound and in peak fitness 🙂

Sazid

Isn’t the point of summer break…. is to have a rest??

Satoshi Nagamoto

Well she has has beem injured quite a bit. So this is probably to build up her match fitness and ready to go for a new season when she comes back.

Dan

When was she injured this season? She played every game didn’t she?

Tim Stillman

Yes but it’s over four months if you’re not at the Euros, that’s quite a long gap.

Gunner H

Kim clearly has a degree of loyalty still to OL Reign & must view this is as the best way to maintain her physical fitness, the level of which is frankly astounding given she turns 32 in June.
Hopefully our magical Captain will benefit from this loan, and return to Arsenal in peak form and condition!

verstellung

Trust her judgment.
She is a pro and knows the best for herself.
Hope she bosses again next year.

Gunner H

Our Kimmy is meticulous to the point of perfection – as Meado said. she does everything “to a tee” – so she’ll know precisely what she’s doing and will be planning to return in prime condition for the 2022/23 season.

And with all the key players having now re-signed, plus maybe a couple of top class signings over the summer – which is likely with Jonas – I reckon we should be looking to take on Wolfsburg & Barcelona full on next time.

Peter Story Teller

Love the optimism of the second paragraph. I’d settle for 6 points each out of Chelsea and City but as we saw in the CL final even the mighty Barcelona can be bossed out of a game with the right mentality and discipline!

Fun Gunner

Better than watching the euros from the sidelines, maybe? In terms or fitness and rest, I’m sure Kim knows what she is doing. Have a great summer, Captain Little!
