Report: Charlie Patino to join Blackpool on loan

Charlie Patino is set to join Blackpool on a season-long loan, reports Jeorge Bird. (We don’t pay him enough for exclusives)

The 18-year-old heads to Bloomfield Road to gain further experience in senior football having played regularly for Arsenal’s under-23s last season.

Few players emerging from the academy have been hyped as much as Patino, who scored on his senior debut as a substitute in last season’s League Cup win over Sunderland.

The midfielder was subsequently handed his first start in January’s FA Cup third round defeat to Nottingham Forest but failed to make much of an impact as the team produced a disjointed performance.

While the England under-19 international is clearly talented, the club, as they’ve done with many other highly-rated youngsters, have decided to be patient with his development. He was part of the squad that travelled to Germany in pre-season – and had minutes on the pitch against Nurnberg – but wasn’t included in the touring party for the trip to America.

A year in the Championship will be a tough test but you can be sure that if he proves his mettle, he’ll be back knocking on Mikel Arteta’s door next pre-season.

Ahhh man, I was really hoping Marseille would call.

I hope he comes back tougher and hungrier to knock on the door.

chepetin

Knock, knock, knocking on Mi-kels door, ooh oh yeah…

Scwibble

Jokes aside, he’s a serious prospect and I’m intrigued to follow this one closely.

chepetin

Totally agree. One to keep an eye on.

Does anyone know anything about Blackpool, style of play, if they think he’ll get minutes, etc.?

Alan Sunderland

It’s the championship mate, fast and furious tough league. Can be like watching late 80’s early 90’s games. It’s exactly what he needs. He’s a very impressive player on the ball, he needs experience and to learn how to look after himself. A year in the championship might have been good for Wilshire. He might have learnt not to attract so many fouls and used his ability more.

Johnny 4 Hats

Yeah but I also just want to wrap him in cotton wool. The championship is so physical and when an 18 year old is skipping past all those Neanderthals I just pray one of them doesn’t decide to take him down a peg or two.

Probably a good move given Sambi and Elneny are both in front of him. But I liked what Pep did with Foden and was kind of assuming Mikel would do the same.

Good luck kid. Come back stronger.

Mayor McCheese

After a year at Blackpool, Charlie will be saying to Mikel, “Oh won’t you please take me home.”

VAR will solve all the problems

I would not want Charlie to be anywhere near Matteo Guendouzi. Sampaoli was a good coach for Saliba’s development but he isn’t there anymore.
Besides Nuno has the Legue 1 Young Player of the Year locked in. Patino doesn’t need to provide extra competition 😂

Atkinson

Folarin Balogun may have something to say about the Ligue 1 Young Player of the year at Reims!😉

Prakhar

One, two or even three seasons as a starter on loan somewhere will be okay by me. This player is too precious to be left on the bench. He has to be a starter for next three years.

Give that man a raise!

Good luck Charlie Patino. Seems to have potential. Finger’s crossed he is able to cope with the physicality

Weakgooner

Excellent

Priim

Surely we’re bringing in another midfielder then?… we’re notoriously light in the middle and with Europe/cups/5 subs rule we’ll need the players…

chepetin

Well Arteta did say that we need to see some outgoing first so every little bit helps. If we can sell or loan Nelson, AMN, Torreira, Bellerin, and Mari – plus the save on Leno’s wages – we save about 435k/week or 25m for the year in wages alone So hopefully that partially funds another purchase or two

Thierry Bergkamp (non negotiable)

VAR will solve all the problems

Perhaps a loan signing would be perfect. Don’t need to sign anyone permanently. Let Patino and Azeez develop and learn elsewhere away from the pressure and expectations. Edu should call Real Madrid and see if they could let us have Cammavinga for a season 😅?

Merlin’s Panini

Numbers-wise we’re not that light in midfield given potential options are Xhaka, Partey, Sambi, Elneny, Zinchenko, Vieira, Odegaard, Smith Rowe, Maitland Niles (at the moment).
However, with Partey’s injury problems and Xhaka’s potential for suspensions we could do with another player who can really control the game from deep.
I’m assuming that’s Tielemans unless he’s going to be the new Sebastian Frey/Yann M’Vila/Houssem Aouar.

Guns Up

Hear William Carvalho, Etienne Capoue and Julian Drawer are all available as well.

Guns Up

Ugh, Draxler.

edwardavern

You know we don’t HAVE to make 5 subs in a game. It’s not like Mikel’s going to get to the 90th minute and be like “shit, gotta make a sub” and then realise “oh no, I’m out of midfielders!”

AussieGooner

We don’t have to score goals either but they do help!

Sean

It’s really strange. It’s probably in the phrasing “five sub rule”, but people now seem to view that as a mandatory procedure in each match that we’ll therefore need a whole army of new signings to cover for. When the reality is that if Arteta felt the *need* to make five subs every game (besides time wasting in close matches) then that actually wouldn’t be a particularly encouraging sign.

Tucker

Shame as it would have been nice to see him in Europa games but a full season of football under his belt will be great for his development.

Fingers crossed the due diligence has been done and he’ll receive that at Bloomfield Road (no reason to doubt it hasn’t to be fair)

allezkev

Good luck Charlie

Teryima Adi

Here’s wishing you all the best, Patino. You will excel.

Arsemouth

Yes, this is so much better than a pre-season tour. Will accelerate his chances of playing first team football. All the best!

ozymandias

Good luck up in Blackpool Charlie.

Just don’t go swimming in the sea. The waters are darker than death.

Merlin’s Panini

Good luck Charlie. Show them your stuff. Championship did Smith Rowe a world of good. That he’s going straight into the Championship and not League One is telling of his quality. If he doesn’t let himself get bullied he could be the best player in the division.

Death by 300,000 Passes

I am glad that he goes to Championship, not to to League 1 or somewhere in Europe. If he can make it there, he’ll make it anywhere.

Sundowner72

“Kids and grown ups love him so, Arsenal’s Charlie Patino”.
To the tune of the Haribo’s advert.
Surely a new chant in Blackpool this season.

Cooked Patino

All the best Charlie. Come back cooked and sizzling
