Nikita Parris joins Manchester United Women

Arsenal winger Nikita Parris has joined Manchester United after just one season in North London. Parris became Arsenal’s record signing last summer when she joined the club from Lyon.

However, she was recruited prior to the appointment of Jonas Eidevall as coach and she struggled to fit into Eidevall’s counterpressing style. Parris, Arsenal and United agreed the terms of this transfer some weeks ago but the announcement was held up by England’s participation in the Euros.

The transfer will include a fee since Parris’ Arsenal contract had not expired but it doesn’t match the fee they paid Lyon last summer. The club are looking to recruit a replacement and targeted Brazilian international Geyse earlier in the summer before she joined Barcelona.

Devastated. Was sure she’d come good this year

chig

If she was record signing she may have been high on the wage pyramid so maybe best to move her on since she barely played minutes for Arsenal

Qwaliteee

Erm…. why?

I wish her well, but still….Man Utd….?! 🤔

Ozzie

Her name will sit alongside Frank Stapleton, Viv Anderson, Robin van Persie and Alexis Sanchez. Can we ever forgive them?

Qwaliteee

Here’s three more.

David Herd, Ian Ure….and George Graham.

Goonersince55

You go back as far as I do in remembering David Herd!

Qwaliteee

Never saw him play, but my Dad used to tell me all about the Arsenal teams of the 50’s and 60’s, which I found fascinating.

I didn’t actually start going to the Arsenal with Dad until I was about four or five – and that was the 71/72 season.

A fair bit has happened since then, that’s for sure!

Zoe Waterfield

Oh yeah, forgot about them. But George did come good for us big time 😊

...and really bad eggs...

I personally don’t think I can forgive RVP

Qwaliteee

Aaah, come on dude. He scored some great goals for us – remember the good times. Life really is too short. He had one good season at United and that was it, more or less. It’s easy to blame him and Cesc for ‘betraying’ us, but Arsenal were a shambles at the time – Without David Dein and later Danny Fiszman, Arsene was ultimately given too much to do and, truth be told, too much power when he needed to be concentrating solely on matters that happened on the pitch, not off it as well. That we managed to stay… Read more »

The biggest blow to Arsenal was losing David Dein 😔

Good luck to her. Maybe she will find her form again at United

Personally I am pleased for her. It wasn’t working at Arsenal and with the World Cup next year she needs to get some games in to have a chance of being selected. She wasn’t a Jonas signing and it was evident she did not fit into his plans so why prolong the agony?

Xuan

I must admit i am getting a little worried about our lack of activity when other teams are strengthening actively.
Yes, we recruited in Jan heavily and may have the benefit of more integration, but i think we are still short of an attacker and a midfielder.

Stina and Rafa have proved to be the absolutely best 2 signings in the whole of the WSL during the 2nd half of last season, plus Laura looked great at the Euros; I feel that Frida will have a much better 2022/23 season too………

Xuan

Certainly hope so, and that Stina has used up her offsides and wasted chances at the euros to be top scorer of the fawsl!

The Women’s team got into signing big stars whose best days were behind them. At least Keets and Tobin Heath didn’t come from Chelsea, but it didn’t work out for either of them. It’s right that they were given a chance to play elsewhere. I just hope that she doesn’t find her shooting boots against us for Manure Women.

Canadagoon

Can anyone share the size of the fees that we paid Lyon and that we received from Manure? Haven’t seen them reported here and I’m limited in my understanding of what a typical transfer fee for a women’s football star is

Peter Story Teller

Contract details such as length, transfer fees or salary are generally not made public in the women’s game. Whatever they were we are not talking about huge sums of money and certainly not millions as in the men’s game.
I know it was different in Keets case, but very often there are no fees at all since the contracts are so short clubs are prepared to wait for the contract to expire and they can get the player they want as a free agent.
