Last night’s win over Bodo/Glimt was far from thrilling but with 4 wins in 12 days, Arsenal continue to keep things ticking over as October slogathon moves to the halfway point.
Next up, it’s Leeds United at Elland Road.
While Jesse Marsch’s side aren’t in great form – they haven’t won any of their last five league games – the Gunners head to the North West knowing tired legs will be tested by the Yorkshire side’s intensity.
Looking ahead to the weekend, Martin Odegaard insists his teammates are ready for the next challenge.
“I’m not surprised [at the wins], we know the quality we have and we know the mindset we have now.
“Everyone is ready for every game, for every action and that’s what we wanted today.
“It wasn’t the best game [in Norway] but we won and that’s the best thing about today, the three points and our winning mentality to just win every game.”
“It’s a busy schedule these days so we have to be ready, recover as quick as possible. It will be a different game and we have to be ready.
“Our goal is to win the next game. That’s what it’s all about now, take it game-by-game and try to win every time we play. We’re not getting carried away, we have to stay calm and keep working hard.”
New boy Fabio Vieira peddled the same message.
“Arsenal is a big club, everyone knows. At the moment we’re in first place, it’s really good and we need to keep working, keep going game-by-game,” he said.
After a low-key performance in the centre of the park, the Portugal under-21 international says he’s working hard to improve physically so he can compete in the Premier League.
“It’s a different type of game. In Portugal it’s different, in England it’s more physical and you need to work on this.
“I promise I’m working!” he added before revealing he’s regularly working to improve his strength in the gym.
So far, so good in this very busy month, but Leeds will be yet another test as the games keep coming. With City at a suddenly rejuvenated Liverpool (fingers crossed) there may be a small window of opportunity to stretch the slender lead we have at the top – but a win for Arsenal at Elland Road is really a must as we can’t take anything for granted.
With our first team we have a great chance to beat them, with TP, Jesus in particular.
Probably too much to hope that Liverpool will beat City (I don’t want that they have an Invincibles season), but we can keep our fingers crossed.
Hoping we do it, against Leeds, Southampton and Forest, we have a good chance.
They won’t have an invincible season. They have to play us twice!
This.
Looking forward to seeing Erling trapped in Saliba’land
Yes, I think we should win at Elland Road but it’s that kind of game (where one team is obviously playing well, and the other not) that can sometimes produce surprises. I think that, on balance, City will pick up the points on Merseyside so we can’t afford to drop any.
If we can’t be confident now we never can be ? Poorish last night and we won ! Against a team coming off the back of 14 straight wins at home I’ll take that ? We are better than Leeds let’s go stuff them !
Confident yes, but not over-confident. We are better than Leeds (and we should win) but if that was the only determinant for the outcome of a football match, we’d always know for sure. Unfortunately, it doesn’t always work out like that.
I’m really sorry I know this is completely off topic, but I need some help. I’m trying to order replica kit for my younger brother for his birthday and I’m not sure which size would fit him best.
He’s around 176cm and skinny. Height-wise I’m thinking M, but since he’s skinny might S be better?
I know there’s a size-guide as well, but I’m really not sure. Also maybe since I have a kit from Nike days, were those generally larger or smaller than the current Adidas ones?
Get the little man a medium, at 176cm that’s not too far from Saka height, and i bet he’s a medium. Small will be shorter in length and sleeves be it a short or long sleeve. And happy birthday for the young Gunner, raising him right.
Thanks! I’m leaning towards M as well. My only worry is that he’s skinny so I’m afraid the kit will look too baggy on him. I guess I’m just overthinking this, and he will fill it out a bit in the coming years anyway.
He had no other choice haha!
Follow your heart; you’ll get it right.
Personally, I’m about 5’9″ and 140. The last kits I bought were the first year we resigned with Adidas, and got a long sleeved home and short sleeved of the away bruised banana homage. I chose small and both fit me pretty well. I know you said he is skinny, but if he is bigger than that at all I’d say medium is also a viable option.
By the time we’ve played Leeds & Southampton, the following games will also have been played:
Manchester United v Newcastle United
Liverpool v Manchester City
Manchester United v Tottenham Hotspur
Chelsea v Manchester United
Tottenham Hotspur v Newcastle United
6 points from those 2 would leave us in a great position.
And then we play almost bottom of the league Forest..
The mantra is: keeping winning game by game.
I remember Pires had the same issue with the physicality of the Premier League, and the rest was history.
Vieira gonna get swole
