Arsenal forward Beth Mead has finished as the runner-up in the 2021-22 Ballon D’Or with Barcelona’s Alexia Putellas retaining the award.
Mead enjoyed an incredible season in 2021-22 which saw her bag 14 goals and 19 assists in 40 appearances, netting her the supporters club and Arsenal.com player of the season awards.
At the European Championships during the summer, Mead won both the Golden Boot and the Player of the Tournament award as the England Lionesses won the trophy on home soil. Gunners forward Vivianne Miedema came 11th in the voting.
Given that Alexia missed the Euros through injury and Barcelona were beaten in the UWCL Final by Lyon, there was a sense that Mead had a good chance to win the award for this season.
The award was decided by a mixture of public vote as well as the votes of captains and coaches from the top National Teams around the world. Big congratulations to Beth on her achievement.
