Jesus set for scan on painful knee

Gabriel Jesus will have a scan of his right knee today amid concerns he suffered an injury during Brazil’s 1-0 defeat to Cameroon last night.

The Arsenal striker was handed his first start of the World Cup but was relatively muted in his 64 minutes on the pitch managing one shot on target and just 11 passes.

Given it was an opportunity to try and usurp Richarlison, it didn’t exactly go to plan.

Afterwards, team doctor Rodrigo Lasmar revealed: “Gabriel Jesus after the game complained of pain in his right knee and after clinical assessment, we have asked for an imaging exam tomorrow.”

As far as we’re aware, Jesus didn’t require treatment on the bench, nor do pictures show him with any ice or strapping applied to his knee after the game. All the same, if there is an issue, he doesn’t have much time to recover. Brazil’s last 16 clash with South Korea takes place on Monday.

Given Tite is also without Neymar – the PSG striker is still recovering from an ankle problem picked up in the first game – Brazil’s much-vaunted attacking strength in depth is being tested.

Whenever you hear of a potential knee injury, it tends to send shudders down the spine, so we’re wishing Gabi a swift recovery. There are 25 days until Arsenal are back in action.
