Aaron Ramsdale has revealed that he’s been playing with an injury since the World Cup after breaking his knuckle on England duty.
The goalkeeper doesn’t seem unduly fussed by the issue although photographs taken in the aftermath of the win over Manchester United last Sunday show he’s still wearing heavy strapping on his right hand.
It turns out he’s even had to make amends to the gloves he wears on a matchday.
“I’ll tell you something about those gloves, if you look at the two middle fingers there’s no gap,” he told The Fellas podcast.
“I broke my knuckle at the World Cup, so I’ve had to play, since the World Cup, with gloves like that.”
Ramsdale has kept two clean sheets in five matches since football resumed and has seen his incredible stop to deny Ryan Sessegnon in the north London derby nominated by the Premier League for January’s save of the month award.
The 24-year-old has travelled with the first team squad for tonight’s FA Cup fourth round clash with Manchester City although he could well be rested in favour of backup Matt Turner.

The fact that he continued to play shows how much faith Arteta has in Turner
I thought the same thing, but obviously the risk wasn’t high enough to leave Ramsdale out
Nonsense, it shows how much faith he has in Ramsdale.
No disagreement there
Would that be why he tried to catch the ball instead of punch it for Martinez’s equaliser?
That was my thought as well
Not an goalkeeping injury that particularly springs to mind (not to mine, at least) but it can’t be pleasant.
Land wrong and your finger/knuckle is messed up. Broke my knuckle playing when I landed wrong after a tackle.
We should rest him tonight anyways. Give him till next Saturday to get a break.
“Oh yeah, I broke my knuckle [I mean you all saw how annoying it was to watch Ser Hairy Kane fking up our world cup run because he needs to be the one scoring – so I punched the fker in the face], bus seriously who cares”
Some adlibbing there, but man, Rammers is the man! GK playing at a top level with a broken finger…wow!
Probably punched the wall when pickford was picked over him
