Arsenal and England winger Beth Mead is one of the runners-up to Barcelona’s Alexia Putellas in this year’s FIFA Best award. The timeframe of the award covers 1 August 2021 until July 31 2022. Mead was shortlisted for the main award with Alexia and Alex Morgan.
Mead was voted as Arsenal’s player of the season for 2021-22 before winning the Golden Boot and the player of the tournament at Euro 2022 as she formed part of the England team who won the trophy on home soil.
Mead also finished as the runner-up to Alexia in the Ballon D’Or award. Mead is currently recovering from an ACL injury sustained in March, as is Alexia, who picked her injury up on the eve of the Euros. Alex Morgan finished 2nd in this year’s awards.

Well deserved, wish she and Viv were on the pitch and doing all the great things that they usually do.
I think seeing who people voted for is just as intriguing as finding out who won. Martina Voss-Tecklenburg voting for Oberdorf, Popp and Williamson caught the eye…
Yes indeed!
Should have won, Alexia, good as she is didn’t even play at the euros!
Congratulations, Beth. I think neither she nor we can complain about coming second to Alexia Putellas. But what a stunning collection of awards BM has got now.
I feel for Viv, could have been higher up the list but it’s the difference between playing for the Netherlands and playing for the European Champions, I suppose.
It’s crystal clear that the Award should have been won by our Beth Mead.
Mead came third, not runner up.
