Four goalkeepers ? Is that normal?

Fun Gunner

I am not surprised and I can see why they left out Gio rather than Sabrina D’Angelo. Gio is not (yet) a goalscorer and we have plenty of creative players – it’s finishing that is our problem. Sabrina is excellent and there is a gap between her and Zinsberger on the one hand and Marckese on the other. Four keepers seems a bit like overkill, though, so they could maybe have swapped out Naomi Williams, who I don’t think we’ve seen make a senior appearance – assuming that’s allowed?

MartynJ

They could only add 3 new players – leaving Naomi out would have made no difference. There don’t seem to be any issues over the number of homegrown players, so I wonder if Gio’s injury issue isn’t entirely resolved – her time on the pitch has been more restricted than I would have expected if she were fully fit.

Tim Stillman

Yeah, Naomi Williams is from the academy ‘B’ list, so doesn’t count towards any kind of total. I think Gio should have gone in ahead of Sabrina, we have lots of goalkeepers and are short of forwards.

Fun Gunner

Are we really short of forwards, though? We create hatfuls of chances every game which we struggle to finish. Gio hasn’t looked like changing that. She had a big chance the other day which she couldn’t take. To my admittedly unsophisticated and untutored eye, she looks to be at the stage Lauren James was at when she played for Man United under Casey Stoney.

I wonder if the decision to include Sabrina instead of Gio means she starts ahead of Manu when she returns from injury or Jonas simply doesn’t trust Kaylan enough to be back up. Just seems strange considering we’re light in attack.

Have I missed something about Beth and Viv?

Fun Gunner

No, you haven’t missed anything, unfortunately. Apparently you can’t remove players from the list, only add. At least I think that is what MartynJ was saying.

Fun Gunner

Actually scratch what I said about removing/adding players from the list. But Viv and Beth are still injured.

Chuck Felsea

Actually you’d have to remove players, because the A-list can never consist of more than 25 players (interestingly I counted 26 names above) So if you didn’t have the max. number of players registered so far, then you can now add up to 3 players without removing somebody as long as the total squad does not consist of more than 25 players. If you’d go over 25 with the new players the appropriate number of players has to be deregistered. I didn’t find any rules about it, but I think keeping Viv and Beth in the squad could have something to… Read more »
