Despite their final day defeat at home to Aston Villa, Arsenal finished 3rd in the WSL and clinched the final UWCL qualification spot for next season.
Arsenal lost 2-0 at home to Aston Villa while Manchester City beat Everton 3-2 but Arsenal finished with a far superior goal difference confirming the final UWCL spot.
It does man that Arsenal will have to play in the first qualification round kicking off on 5th or 6th September, just two weeks after the World Cup Final but for now, it represents a good effort from an injury ravaged Arsenal side.
CL qualification is a great achievement for a team that, towards the business end of the season, had almost half its first 11 out with serious injuries.
Injuries galore and all that but this the worst 90 minutes from Arsenal WFC since they caved in to Chelsea in the FA Cup final. Poor passing, no passion, no marking and they did not seem that bothered.
They were pretty much already qualified for the Champions League so maybe thinking of the World Cup coming up soon. I don’t blame them after this difficult injury ravaged season but we need to make up for the last two poor transfer windows with a good transfer window this summer.
That performance wasn’t good enough. They’re professional footballers.
I thought that they were OK in the first half, if a bit toothless in front of goal, but what little threat they had up front vanished without Stina in the second half, which was very poor. If Stina was injured (I recall she did take a bad tackle), I’d like to have seen Michelle Agyemang. I know that the opposition was poor when she scored against Leeds, but I’m still impressed by the way she took her goal.
I don’t imagine Agyemang was an option with the Women’s Under-17 Championship ongoing. Shes doing her thing there though, so deffo looks like one to watch going forward
That’s finished and she was on the sub’s bench.
Ok, fair play. Maybe they were concerned about overloading, but given her form in the tournament a 20 minute run out could have been good.
Yes I think Michelle has a bright future but we need Jonas to have confidence in her and give her a game much the same as Teyah Goldie has come back from serious injury and still cannot get a match. Let’s face it, we were hardly going to lose by more than 12 today and let City into the CL spot so why not let some of the youngsters have a run out? We lost 2-0 anyway probably with some players with one eye on the World Cup seeing what has happened to Beth, Viv, Leah and Laura! Caitlin and… Read more »
Took the words out of my mouth! JE was so complimentary about Agyemang the other day, so why didn’t he put his money where his mouth is? At least Michelle is actually a striker, unlike Kühl. And Kühl before Gio was odd, too, thinking about it.
Yes, a shame to end the season like that and for that to be Rafa’s last game for us. The tank was empty and it showed but I would have expected better.
I was there and l must admit it wasn’t the most inspiring match lve seen and lm also surprised JE didn’t bring Michelle and Teyah on. I can understand why the team didn’t give 100% out on the pitch given the circumstances, however l think us fans deserved a better send off 😐
As a side issue l didn’t think the ref had a good game, she was never going to give Katie anything accept a card 😡
