After Argentina and South Africa’s entertaining 2-2 draw and China’s 1-0 win over Haiti, Alessia Russo lead the line for England in their Group D match against Denmark.
Kathrine Kuhl lined up against her for the Danes and played the full 90 minutes. Russo played for 76 minutes and Lotte Wubben-Moy was an unused sub as Lauren James’ early goal was enough for England to win 1-0 and take themselves to the cusp of qualification for the knockout rounds.
Jonas Eidevall: ''If you see Lauren James' goal, the positioning of Alessia Russo is what creates the space. Russo makes it difficult for the defender to step out there, giving James the chance to take the touch out of her feet and shoot.'' #engden #FIFAWWC pic.twitter.com/CElQ4BXcLI

However, the match was marred by a bad looking knee injury to Keira Walsh. Russo was replaced by Beth England in the 76th minute. Tomorrow at 8.30am UK Gunners trio Stina Blackstenius, Amanda Ilestedt and Lina Hurtig take on Italy for Sweden.
Well done England, well done Denmark. Very close match.
Watched most of the match and England usually had control, neat one and two touch passing, but then gave the ball away and got caught on the counter with too many players ahead of the ball.
It reminded me of watching the Arsenal men before Arteta, except that here England managed to win.
They really miss Leah Williamson to offer control and of course Beth Mead to destroy the opposition and score a hat full of goals.
I hope Lotte gets some minutes at least.
Just looking at the World Cup top scorers. Who is leading, Stina, no! Lessi no! It’s Amanda the new defensive signing we’ve made. There you go Jonas put her up front with Jen and we should be all set!
She’s now in a leading position for the golden forehead.
