If there was one positive to take from Wednesday night (and we’re really stretching things here) it’s that young Serge Gnabry garnered a few more first team minutes as Arsene Wenger continues to accelerate the German teenager’s development.
Built like Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and billed (by some impatient so-and-sos) as a potential replacement for Theo Walcott, the 17-year-old made a second cameo appearance in a week nearly scoring with Arsenal’s only shot on target in injury-time.
Speaking about his young compatriot after the game, Per Mertesacker, who himself was thrown into the deep end at a young age (he’s such a BFG he was never going to drown was he?), predicted a bright future for the attacker.
“Arsenal are always searching for this type of player who have shown their qualities very early,” the defender told Arsenal.com.
“They get them very early, so let’s try to put confidence to him. He is learning a lot in training and these games are very important for him.”
Granted Gnabry did indirectly play a role in Schalke’s second goal, but in truth the team’s performance was so dire up to that point it’s harsh to push the blame on a kid. As Per stresses, ensuring the youngsters play with confidence is key to their development.
Arseblog News has witnessed a proliferation of young talents fritter away their first team opportunities so we’re reserving judgement on young Serge at this stage. That being said we’d much rather he followed in the footsteps of Jack Wilshere (minus the injuries) than Quincy or Bentley or Aliadiere or Lupoli or Simpson or…we could go on, but you get the picture.
I’m glad arsenal managed to Gnab such a precocious talent
Oh no, there’s gonna be a Serge of bad jokes now..
I don’t care who has confidence or not. Just win ur fucking matches. Thats what champions are made of. Don’t cunts like Holt and the lots any reason to celebrate. Somebody please smash John Terry’s balls with a ping pong bat.
With the emergence of really gifted youngesters like Ox and Gnabs, I can see why Theo is worried and why he is insisting on conditions before he resigns his contract. Theo’s lack of significant progress will forever see him relegated to impact sub status for all Champions League quality teams.
I think our future is bright with Wilshire, Gibbs, Jenks, Gnabs, Ox.
sign da ting
3 day ban.
Lol, the futures always bright!
Just remember, we all felt Cashley was being greedy & we believed we had a worthy replacement.
I just hope we don’t make the same mistake with Theo!
We will be hearing a lot more of this lad, one because he is a talent and two, the pr at the club is working overtime in promoting this kid as Theo’s replacement. So as to not not spend money when he goes in January.
This is 100% true. Nowonder he’s getting this much game time.
Yesterday I read somewhere theo has beem omitted from the contract extensions list and now all over sudden Gnabry is getting more and more first team football [not that it’s a bad thing, kids got it!]…..coincidence?. I think not.
And so this cycle shall continue with all our players. 🙁
Could he be getting game time because Theo was injured?
hahah there you go pissing on everyone’s chips with your dreary insistence on looking at reality!
Yes you’re right, theo was injured and because of that he had to be removed from the contract extension list. He’s gonna be sold, stop hiding behind cheap and shallow reasoning. Face facts.
I think MAllen’s response was to your comment “now all over sudden Gnabry is getting more and more first team football” and not the contract extension list. Also, how do you know he’s off it? Source please

Ah yes the Metro. High quality, reliable newspaper that. The bloody article even says that Theo hasn’t started a game this season, when he started against Sunderland. I would take everything the Metro says with an enormous pinch of salt
Agreed voldermot. Used to give the board the benefit of the doubt. Not after the AGM farce. Back Arsene cos he’s the only one that gives a shit. We’ll pull through this.
I would like to see a blog on the possible wenger successors.its a FACT one day he will not be around.we need to be prepared.
Aren’t the club spending money on researching ways to make him young again?
what do you think bergkamp’s been doing at ajax all this time 😉
We’re going down the liverpool way. The only difference is we have arsene to bail us out. All those tossers who think that we’ll hire the likes of Lowe, Ancellotti or that sort must be sitting with their thumbs up their arse. This board wont do that. If wenger leaves, we’ll see bouldy take over and thats it. Saves money.
Why do you lot think that liverpool hired brendan fucking rodgers eh? He’s fucking cheap thats why. Hope we’ll get rid of this board soon or else we’ll end up like the pool. Midtable and forever hoping for a saviour.
Litterpool hired Rogers ‘cos the stats say he performed wonders with cheap players at Swansea and NESV are massive “buy on the stats” fans. Unfortunately it overlooks the slight problem that Football’s history is littered with the carcasses of managers who performed miracles on a tight budget, but just couldn’t make the adjustment to running superstars on big money. The problem there is that at the smaller clubs, most of the players are grateful to be playing at this level at all and will give their all to show it, whereas the big names have a habit of being motivated… Read more »
Sam, lets see what line is dragged out when theo leaves. You know what’s coming.
well duh, of course he’s off
i just couldn’t resist a cheap gag at teh expense of doom mongers
we’ll be lucky to get £5m for him in Jan, he’s cup tied for the european cup, he’s not that good apart from “in patches”, he wants a shitload of money. oh theo, where did it all go wrong? was it because you met john terry at england camp? i think so
Hey, we are not going the liverpool way! They have poor players and an ancient stadium, we have quality and compete every season. It is frustrating we can’t win. But City, United and Chelsea are paying serious wages and transfer fees. Its not a level playing field.
You say that but that doesn’t explain the sale of key players every season!
Selling RVP to Man Utd will never ever make sense & can never ever be justified!
i would rather he left on a free(& I said it numerous times on this blog before he was sold) it’s not like we spent the cash on a worthy replacement, instead we have Gervinho playing up front!
It makes no sense.
Liverpool way in terms of board fuck ups. Our board and theirs are utter cunts.
Cheap manager, success with tight budget, cheap players…..sounds familiar to me. I agree Anfield is a smelly bog tho’. Stan should just sell off his shares to the highest bidder. I’m sick and tired with that shithead. Fuck u stan. Fuck u usmanov. At least abrahamovic showed he cared at chelsea.
Lol do you actually think Abramovich cares about Chelsea? It’s his ego he cares about. Chelsea is just his pet project, his plaything. As soon as his finances take a hit, or he simply loses interest, Chelsea will be the first off the payroll. They will then revel in depths of mediocrity in the 1st division.
I’m sick and tired of the sight of Gazidis as well. Bald fuckwit.
@ Glory Hunter: If RVP left on a free after this year, chances are he was still going to City or United.
That being the case, why would you NOT get 20-25 million for him. That hurts WAY less than him moving to a rival for FREE.
We could use him this year, so any argument saying that has merit, but considering the facts, maybe it is best we’ve moved forward THIS year, instead of putting this off until next year.
We may have shaved a year off the wait for us to inevitably end this trophy drought.
I understand the sentiment & it would have made sense to sell him if we used the money to buy an adequate replacement instead we are playing Gervinho up front!
On that basis alone I would happily have let him leave on a free next season.

Why the fuck are we talking about RVP screw him and lets all clap for this young lad and I hope he goes on to become something special for us like Jack and OX.
